I enjoy sinking into Shalvis when I need a mind cleanse. But I REALLY hate when publishers allow covers that are general and lend nothing to the story.

First off, the book stars Oreo, a Bernese Mountain dog. That's a Lab, I'm fairly certain, on the cover. No. Give me the right doggie. And as long as we are making wishes, give me a Rottweiler. In the story and on the cover.

Anyway, not trying to say it in a rude way but if you've read one Jill Shalvis, you've more or less read them all. Late 20s early 30s heroine, some mish mash of getting life together or down on luck combined with been burned by guy before or stone-walled from poopy parents. Hero is mid-thirties, mish mash of uniform job, poopy parents, recovering from harrowing incident from said uniform job, and sweetly alpha. A meet-cute follows by funny conversations, sexy encounters, and the heroine put in a precarious situation. The characters are always affable and I always end up smiling over something. This one followed the formula and I liked it.

The formula works because it's a glazed donut, no one turns down a glazed donut, they're delicious. They take the edge off but rarely do they blow your socks off. There have been Shalvis books I've liked more than others but usually they fall into the good category. Which is not a complaint but it's not a thunderous standing ovation either. They are a glazed donut to me, they get the job down but they're no Ain't That a Peach fritter (Voodoo Donuts reference ;) either.

With her siblings out of the house, Zoe Stone is trying to settle down to a life of peace and quiet in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, when her brother’s friend, Parker James, blows in to stay with her while he searches for a fugitive smuggler. Zoe and Parker’s instant attraction catches them by surprise, but well aware that he is simply passing through has them questioning the wisdom of a temporary fling that may just break both of their hearts.

While the book has all the right elements, a sexy hero, a quirky heroine and the cutest animals around, they simply do not come together and the story ultimately falls flat.

Zoe and Parker’s supposedly instantaneous chemistry is actually non-existent for most of the book. It is never quite clear what they see in each other and the fact that Zoe is constantly on guard to the fact that Parker is leaving puts a damper on any emotional attachment that could develop between them.

It is never a good thing when the animals characters are the best aspect of a romance. The antics of Oreo the huge Bernese and Bonnie & Clyde, the cutest kittens alive, completely overshadow Zoe and Parker’s relationship.

The minor suspense plot revolving around Parker’s investigation into a smuggler’s connection to a local militia has potential, but lacks any real tension and action.

In sum, although there are some engaging scenes, and Zoe and Parker’s romance does eventually take off, this installment is one of the weakest in the series and perhaps it is time for Shalvis to move on from Sunshine, Idaho.

Another outstanding book. Zoe reminds me of Tara in The Sweetest Thing, except I never warmed up to Tara. Despite being prickly and tough, We find the softer underbelly of Zoe. I love the way Ms. Shalvis draws her characters, tough, wounded, survivors. The Alpha Man who's tougher than nails, the strong independent heroine.

The chemistry is hot from the start and the vulnerabilities of the characters are cleverly demonstrated.

Reading one of Jill Shalvis's books is like eating potato chips. You can't seem to stop once you start.

Very good book. Zoe is the last of the three Stone siblings and the only one who hasn't found true love yet. She pretends that she's fine alone, but really she wants what they have. Instead, she makes her work as a pilot her life, along with her dog Oreo, until she decides it's time to go after what she wants. As the book opens she's getting ready for a blind date, assisted by commentary from her sister Darcy. A challenge from Darcy has her kissing the man at the door, only to find out he's not her date.Parker is an agent for the Fish and Wildlife Service, who is on forced leave from his job, after the death of a friend and his own injuries. He's been told to leave the case alone, but can't do it. A tip brings him to Sunshine, where he is renting a room from his friend Wyatt's sister. He does not expect the welcome that he gets. There are sparks between Zoe and Parker from the beginning. Both try to resist, Zoe because she's looking for something permanent, which he isn't, and Parker because he'll be leaving as soon as he does what he came for. But resistance is futile as each is fascinated with the other. Zoe is smart, works hard, loves her family dearly and is also rather bossy. She did most of the raising of her siblings thanks to her neglectful parents, plus has been burned by a previous relationship, so she likes to be in control. Her favorite phrase is "I'm fine, I've got this". Parker is career driven and focused, but has a softer side that shows when dealing with a pair of kittens and his sister. He's intrigued by Zoe, but knows that he's not the one for her, because he isn't staying around.I loved the development of their relationship. Parker is charming, sexy and has a great sense of humor. I loved the way that he could tease her out of a bad mood. Spending time with her has him thinking about things that had never appealed before, like having a permanent home and someone to come home to. It was sweet to see the little things he did to make her life easier. Zoe works a little harder to resist, but soon falls for the man she sees under the determined agent. It was fun to see them "playing house" together, with the desire for more growing between them. Some of their conversations were laugh out loud funny, while the chemistry between them was sizzling. But when his job brings danger to Zoe, Parker pulls back. It takes him a little while to see the light but his big moment at the end was great. I really loved that bit of vulnerability that was there beneath his apology. There was a bit of suspense in this story, dealing with the poacher that Parker has been chasing for years. It shows the stubborn and somewhat rogue side of him, as he breaks quite a few rules that have been made clear to him. The confrontation between Parker and Carver was pretty intense and didn't end quite the way I thought it would. The secondary characters always add some extra life to the story. From Darcy's advice at the beginning, that started the whole thing with Parker, to Wyatt's advice to Parker, the siblings show their love for and understanding of Zoe. The football game involving characters from previous books was a chance to catch up, and also see some of the fun interactions between them. I loved Parker's sister and how important she was to him. She was sweet and fun, and the Vegas and Glacier trip was awesome. But the one who stole the show was the dog Oreo. It was fun to see his reactions to the kittens, and how quickly he took to Parker.

All I Want by Jill Shalvis is a 2015 Berkley Publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All I Want has all the trademark humor we've come to expect from Jill Shalvis, especially in the Animal Magnetism series, but there is a little romantic suspense element in this one I really liked. Zoe, has convinced herself she is good and fine since her brother Wyatt and her sister Darcy found true love and have moved out of the house and on with their lives. But, deep down, she longs for the same happiness her siblings have found. As fate would have it, Wyatt's good friend, Parker, is on a vacation and Zoe has agreed to let him stay at the house with her to help finance home repairs. When the two meet each other sparks fly right away but in a hilarious way, which had me laughing out loud. Naturally, the couple tries to deny they are feeling a connection and work hard to douse the flames because they are not really suited for each other. Parker is on a vendetta mission, which is very dangerous, but once he's done what he needs to, he will disappear back into the dark and murky world from which he came. Zoe needs total honesty, commitment, loyalty and honor, NOT a dark, dangerous, and mysterious. It seems as though a hot fling is all she can hope for… unless a litter of adorable kittens and a delightful rescue dog named Oreo can help pave the way for Zoe's own Happily Ever After. I have been catching up with the Animal Magnetism series little by little recently, and was very curious about how Zoe's story was going to play out. I love her cutting edge occupation, her loyalty to family, and felt her insecurities were valid. Same with Parker, who, had some family matters to cope with as well. As I said before, Parker has a dangerous job, and is going rogue a little bit here, looking for justice in the death of his partner. This story line added a little bit of danger and suspense to the story, and of course I loved that element, which really made this installment stand out a little more than some of the other chapters I have read so far. One thing Jill Shalvis is very good at is creating heroes that will melt your panties off, but will melt your heart in the process. I thought Wyatt was nearly perfect , but now here comes Parker. Geez! But, of course her stories are usually always very well balanced, laced with emotional dramas, and offset with humor, and excellent banter and dialogue that never fails to leave me with a smile on my face. Fan Girling on this one. 5 stars
