      By far, this is my favorite book of all the Psy-Changling stories. What happened and what happens to two of the most powerful Psy ever? The dark danger of Kaleb Krychek (who will always look like Nicholas Lea is my mind, for obvious reasoning) coupled with the innate goodness of the Psy Sahara Kyriakus is even more compelling due to their unprecedented Psy abilities.

      I could not put this book down. It deserves to be read in one sitting if possible. The story is at times a freight train that leaves the reader breathless, while also revealing aspects of many characters throughout that will leave you wanting more.

      This story is not without pain or tragedy. It is a beginning of a new Psy (and hopefully more stories!) and the end of stories that have been building through the series. I do not want to give away any spoilers as this is a book to be savored. Read it, and be prepared to want more.

      You're mine," Simple quiet words that were a punch to the chest. "I will fight for you, today, tomorrow, and all the tomorrows to come."This review will be shorter than this story deserves, but trying to avoid spoilers, I am going to have to shorten it a bit. I was able to receive a copy from my local library, probably why it took me so long to read this one. But finally it became available, and I could hardly wait to pick it up. Before this book came out, there was quite a bit of rumors pertaining to the identity of the characters, and I knew that it would be a good one. I have to say that after reading the Heart of Obsidian, I definitely loved every page, and could hardly put it down, even though I worked long hours the past two days. So it took me a bit longer than I would have liked to get it read. From the first chapter you see who our hero is, and it takes a bit longer to find the identity to the heroine. I definitely didn't expect the plot to turn the way it did. It had surprises and more information on the Psy than is previously revealed. I felt like I was learning way more about Psy, and it was a thrilling adventure, as this couple come together, especially overcome the obstacles they are faced with. When I first started reading Heart of Obsidian, I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy it. But I had heard so many stellar reviews and outstanding recommendations, that I knew I had to give it a real chance. With this series being one of my top favorite paranormal series, I have absolutely adored every installment. However this story, wraps things up a bit more, answers all the question I had in previous books, it definitely made me see another side to the Psy than I did previously. There is a bit of darkness introduced into the story, more than in previous books, however I felt like overall there was a balance of dark and light in here. The love story was powerful and unique and had a special feeling to it. I loved the bond that develops between these two, intense and scorching. This book had me hooked from beginning to end, and I was very impressed with how events turn out, and we see a new era in this world that Singh has created for us. A SEXY YET SATISFYING READ!

      This one is all Psy book, Kaleb finally finds what he has been looking for the last several books. Turns out it was someone who he cared about in secret and was taken away from him as a young man. Most of the book is Sahara trying to recover from being tortured for years by another councilor to use her powers to control other Psy. The other half of the book is Pure Psy attacking different cities and then Kaleb and the Arrows coming to help. As the attacks continue the Changelings are also helping in the rescue efforts showing the world a united working front against the Pure Psy. By the end of the book the group seems to be broken and a hopefully a new future for all the Psy can start. I’m curious how the next book will go in the future of the Psy race.

      OH. MY. GOD. I. LOVE. KALEB. KRYCHECK.

      Seriously though, this book was so beautiful. I loved Sahara and damn, but Kaleb was as multi-layered as I had suspected and hoped. I am dyyyyyiiinnnnggg to know whose book is next!!!!


      Side note, but a part of me that remembered a conversation I had with many people about another long-running series: the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. This is the 12th book in the Psy-Changling series, and that series is still going SO strong and I am SO in love with it to this day. The Sookie books took a hard nose-dive and ended on an incredibly disappointing note, so I can't help but hope that Harris learns some lessons from Singh about keeping a series fresh, consistent, and making her readers keep guessing and following the series to some brilliantly-constructed conclusions! Contrasting the two series has made me realize that Harris may have more spotlight, but Singh is, by far, the better author!!!

      Barring one or two small issues, Heart of Obsidian lives up to expectations.

      The romance between Kaleb and Sahara is simply riveting. The intense build up of chemistry and tension highlights their emotional connection and makes the bond between them all the sweeter. Nevertheless, the pacing is slightly slow with an overabundance of hints and innuendo regarding their shared past.

      Kaleb has always fascinated me. His portrayal as a dark and manipulative psychopath with some sort of hidden, and perhaps twisted agenda, together with the question of whether or not he is the enigmatic Ghost make him a particularly compelling character. After this book, Kaleb is one of my favorite heroes in the series alongside Judd and Hawke. Like these two leading men, Kaleb appeals to my weakness for the sexy, dark and tortured.

      Sahara is a relatively new character and is only mentioned once or twice in passing in previous installments. That said, the fact that she loves Kaleb completely and unconditionally makes her a truly wonderful heroine and it is impossible not to admire her strength of will and spirit in overcoming the trauma of her past and accepting her amazing powers.

      With regard to the Ghost,the ultimate revelation of his identity is somewhat anti-climactic. Nalini Singh's Q&A and other people's comments prior to the book's release had me revising my opinion several times, which resulted in the tension of the actual reveal becoming lost amidst the confusion.

      The developments in the overall story arc are entertaining, especially the cooperation between the various human, Psy and Changeling factions. Nevertheless, the plot does take a backseat to the romance and while this is not necessarily a bad thing, it is disappointing that the Changelings, who have played such an integral part in the series up till now, are relegated to a secondary role.

      In sum, it looks like Singh is changing the focus of the series now that Silence has fallen and the next few books will be Psy rather than Changeling oriented. Hopefully, we will still catch glimpses of our favorite characters alongside new and intriguing storylines.

      Kudos to any author who can successfully leash a villainous character, harness his world-ending abilities for good, and elicit genuine sympathy for him by revealing a truly unique and horrific childhood.

      Okay, all that sounds rather corny and generally off-putting, but I swear, it’s not. This long-awaited novel’s political backdrop is a game-changer. Be prepared for shock and awe. And the real identity of The Ghost.

      I freaking loved it! Though I have to admit being a little scared that this would turn out to be one of those stories where the guy has absolutely no chance of being saved from turning into a terrible person and the girl falls completely in love with him anyway. Thank you that it wasn't anything like that. I loved how Sahara's character grew and she became this incredibly strong minded woman who knew what she wanted out of life despite everything that she'd been through already. And Kaleb, oh Kaleb. I think he's my favorite hero of the series right with those sexy and touchy changelings. I can't wait to read more.

If you are a fan of this series you already probably know whose book this is. If you haven’t read this series yet you are missing out – but don’t start with this one – with eleven books before this one you would be missing out on a lot of wonderful characters and an amazing world/backstory.Kaleb Krychek has pretty much been a villain up until now, a villain that you just knew had some semblance of a heart of gold plus a HUGE secret that he had been keeping. I have always been fascinated with Kaleb since he turned up in the novels and I am so happy that he got his own story. The beginning of the novel has Kaleb finding his secret and her name is Sahara. The only problem is is that Sahara is lost within the labyrinth of her own mind and Kaleb must find a way to break her out without her becoming a vegetable.Kaleb must keep Sahara a secret and because of this he does keep her locked away from others. Her mind is sealed from the PsyNet and he has built her a home that is far away from other Psy. He doesn’t necessarily lock her in but he does try to keep her from hurting herself until she is better. Some people may have problems with this type of Stockholm syndrome type display but I think their backstory proves that their relationship began way before then. I loved the sensuality of their romance and how everything had to be taken slow because too much could go wrong.I don’t want to giveaway to much more of the story but I really felt that Heart of Obsidian had the most terrible and tragic of any two characters backstories from this series. I absolutely loved that they had a history and how it caused them to be like they are currently in the story.I genuinely liked Sahara. I think she had a raw deal in life and she paid for it. She was able to heal herself and move on fairly quickly from her troubles. She was still a little reluctant around people but telling her she could trust others is more than just knowing that she could trust them. (If I had been locked up for years that would be a problem too.) She knows that she has a place with Kaleb and at least tries to do something about it.Kaleb is tough as steel. If you thought Judd was an unemotional force than Kaleb takes the number one spot. He still really clings to his Psy personality as the world changes around him. I think he undergoes the most transformations of any character even though it is more on the inside than what he shows on the outside.The last few books in the Psy/Changeling series usually jumps around from multiple people telling different parts of the whole story but Heart of Obsidian didn’t really do that. There are a few jumps to other people but they were usually quick, the main story really focused on Kaleb and Sahara and I think it was a way better story because of it. I did miss the interaction with the other characters that we sometimes get but I enjoyed the mentions and cameos too.Heart of Obsidian does solve a huge issue that has been plaguing the Psy/Changeling world and as a huge fan of this series, I did feel that it was a bit anti-climactic, just a little too easy and too good to be true. There is still so much that this series has going for it. Remember Alice? I can’t wait to see where that story leads with that angle.Overall, an amazing and wonderful seductive romance set in an explosive world. One of my favorite series ever and I can’t wait to see what is next with Vasic in Shield of Winter.       I was a little surprised that this story was about Kaleb Krychek. He has not been put in the best light in the earlier books. He has done some very unselfish things but there was nothing that gave him away as a hero. So the things that he does in this story are amazing and heroic in every sense of the world. Once he finds Sahara and realizes that she is sane and strong he begins to change. He cares for her so much and it shows every time that he looks at her or touches her. It is also very obvious that that she is the one that will keep him from destroy everything that is the Psy. Reading the story it becomes clear that Ms. Singh has been building up to this story for a long time. Kaleb is an alpha male that has survived the worst a man can take and he was a child when it started. I have come to hate Santano Enrique. His being a serial killer was bad enough but the torture that he inflicted on Kaleb is inexcusable. The man was truly a monster. I think sometimes that he died too easily. By the end of this story I had fallen in love with Kaleb.Sahara Kyriakus has survived seven years of torture and isolation. She was taken a tortured by Enrique to punish Kaleb. She was sold to another monster Tatiana Rika-Smythe. Sahara survived the worst that Tatiana dealt her and learned things about her abilities, which are different from all the other Psy. Sahara isn’t afraid to stand up to Kaleb. I have to admire her courage and her will to survive. I also love how she starts working to help all those that Pure Psy has hurt. She is so talented and smart. She has become one of my favorite characters.The story continues to Pure Psy conflict that has been building in the earlier stories. We learn more about the leaders of that group and what they want to achieve. The whole group is insane. It was great to see Faith Nightstar again. She has grown and flourished under the care of the leopards. It was also great to see human, changelings and Psy working together to bring down the enemy. I have to wonder what Ms. Singh has planned in the future for this series. This is a wonderful story and it answers some questions that have been banging around in my head. I hope that there will be another book soon. I hate waiting for year before we find out what another story.

      Two stories here, one about Silence and how it's killing psy and the two choices that are there for the psy race, both will end with death but one of the choices could end up with a lot of power in the hands of the psy. The second story is that of Kaleb and Sahara. Kaleb is a powerful psy whose mentor was twisted and evil, Sahara was tortured in the name of science, they loved each other for years and were parted for longer, now they're together but unsure if they can fix themselves and silence and the world.I enjoyed the read, I was rooting for the characters and their romance and their minds. Entertaining but shallow.

      I didn't realise until I read this book just how clever a writer Nalini Singh is. I have enjoyed every book so far but I didn't realise how every single book seems to have been leading to this one. There are so many secrets revealed that I didn't realise existed until I saw them uncovered, so many shock answers to questions I didn't realise that I had until they got answered.

      Did I know who the hero was? Yes, I read the spoiler. Honestly, it didn't ruin this book at all. I was shocked by the heroine's identity, by her powers, by who the main bad guy was and I was shocked by the ending. But then, after an hour of digesting, I wasn't. The series has lead to this; each book had a part in either building the story-arc towards it or preparing me as a reader to accept it. This is not an easy story to read. Neither of these characters come close to being perfect, but with every book Singh has chipped away a piece of my resistance towards this tale by making me realise that, in this world, there are no easy answers. It will be going on my anti-hero shelf, it will be going on my conflicted shelf and it will be going on my must-read shelf.

      I cannot fathom where this series is going next but I can't wait to read more. I do know that I trust Nalini Singh to make me love what ever she decides to do.

      I'm not going to say much. I saw a large spoiler on Twitter the day the book came out. I was disappointed that I saw the spoiler, but let me say, it didn't diminish the story in any way. I think this is my new favorite Psy-Changeling story. I can't wait to see where the series goes next. Do I really have to wait a year?? :)

      Wow. Just wow.

      I was let down somewhat by some of the previous novels, which devoted to much time and effort to the steaminess and romance and not enough to the epic and complex politics and manipulations of the Psy. Even though I ultimately prefer shapeshifters to vampires etc, my favourites from this series have all been ones that focus mainly on Psy - particularly the Psy males who are still, largely, Silent. Having read that this novel marks a dramatic turning point in the ongoing complicated story, and answers many of the questions issued from previous ones, I decided not to wait around until the book became available at the library, or even found its way to bookshelves locally (it's released 11 June in NZ) but instead picked it up immediately on ebook.

      I don't want to say too much in this review, because many of you folks won't have read it yet, but I will say that Singh has achieved the appropriate balance of action and erotica that makes this one of the most important books in the series to actually read. It involves one character that many of the fans have been clamoring about hearing his story for some time, and another that you won't know yet, but will quickly grow fond of.

      The only disappointment, I suppose, is that there is nothing about Alice, or even much on the SnowDancer pack at all. But then again, I've always preferred the leopards anyway. I'm sure Alice will get her chance, some book soon.

      I liked seeing the overall story progress, getting more of the backstory on Kaleb Krychek, and seeing another Nightstar family member. But otherwise I didn't find this one a particularly notable entry in the series. Singh's romance genre tics were on full display: Hyper-powerful male lead, and a damaged female lead needing rescue and leading to a lot of hurt/comfort; plus a childhood connection that metamorphosed into True Love(TM).The individual plot details were also not hugely convincing. The female lead had been held captive and tortured for 7 years, and had built a mental "labyrinth" to hide/protect her own sanity. But it all falls apart on its own because she's "safe". Okay. Really? (And, if connection to the Psy network and its biofeedback is essential for life, how has she survived without it? How is Tatiana surviving without it?)Her super-secret world-shaking power is the ability to listen in on a crowd and implant memories in individuals, effectively "controlling" people. As displayed, her powers don't really seem different than many other Psy characters. And, the overall power-escalation is a bit much: Last Tk protagonist shatters furniture when he makes love; this one must be more powerful and cause small earthquakes. Okay! Whatever. For that matter, every character is pretty much the most powerful Psy there is in their particular specialty. Most powerful Foreseer (Faith), most powerful "E" (Sasha), most powerful hitherto-undisclosed-but-not-really-interest power (Sahara), most powerful Med (whatsername), most powerful TK (Kaleb), most powerful "cold fire" (Sienna), most powerful Magneto-Power (whatsisname), etc, etc. Anyway, the thing I have liked the best in these novels is the worldbuilding. So I'm pleased that the story has progressed, and hope that this book gives Singh a chance to break open the world a bit more and tell a wider variety of stories. Different changelings! More of the hidden powers! More geopolitical politics! And so on.

      What an amazing story! It takes an author as talented as Nalini Singh to turn a character we have seen as frightening and immensely dangerous into a romantic hero, but she manages it ably. Kaleb Krychek has been searching for Sahara for seven years. She was kidnapped at the instigation of his "mentor" Santano Enrique and used as a lever to keep Kaleb subservient to Enrique. When the story begins, he has found her and found her badly damaged.Sahara Kyriakus had been tortured over and over again in an attempt to get her to use her very unique and powerful telepathic gift. She managed to escape by creating a labyrinth in her own mind to protect herself. She is a person of great strength and great integrity. She is also in love with Kaleb. They have known each other since she was seven and he was 13. She makes herself into his only friend and his lifeline to his humanity. The flashbacks to their childhoods helps convert the Kaleb we've seen into a sympathetic character.As the two get to know each other again, the outside world isn't taking a backseat. Pure Psy is stepping up its efforts to "purify" the Psy no matter how many acts of terrorism it will take. The Council has disintegrated and fallen apart and Kaleb is getting ready to take control of the PsyNet before Pure Psy or the flaws within the net manage to destroy it.The climactic battle with Pure Psy sees a coalition of humans, changelings and Psy and reunite many of our favorite characters from earlier books in the series as all factions need to work together to keep Pure Psy's chaos from coming to pass.The story is filled with intense emotion and great action scenes. The emotional intensity between Kaleb and Sahara was breath-taking and heart-breaking. I strongly recommend this episode in the Psy-Changeling series.

      Have you ever had one of those books that you’ve been waiting for in a series and you need it to be as good as you’ve been hoping for? This was HoO for me! This is the 12th book and a pinnacle moment with a couple of huge reveals that will change the course of the Psy/Changling world. It is every bit as good as I needed it to be and more! Note this is not the place to jump into the series (start with Slave to Sensation) but if you’re looking for great world-building check out the whole run up to this intense and pivotal story.
