About this audiobook
As the danger climbs higher, Ash must uncover the truth behind the darkness watching her, before it threatens everyone she knows and cares about. But in a world where darkness lurks beneath the surface, not everyone is what they appear to be . . .
Emma L. Adams
Emma L. Adams spent her childhood creating imaginary worlds to compensate for a disappointingly average reality, so it was probably inevitable that she ended up writing fantasy novels. She has a BA in English Literature with Creative Writing from Lancaster University, where she spent three years exploring the Lake District and penning strange fantastical adventures. Now, Emma lives in the middle of England and is the international bestselling author of over 50 novels including the world-hopping Alliance series, the urban fantasy Changeling Chronicles series, and the fantasy adventure Relics of Power trilogy. When she's not immersed in her own fictional universes, Emma can be found with her head in a book, playing video games, or wandering around the world in search of adventure. Reviews for Darkness Watching

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Darkness Watching isn't what I was expecting when I originally picked it up. It's a very quick, moving story, focusing on magic and demons, yet it managed to feel different from the rest of the paranormal stories.
The story starts off in a typical fashion: Ashlyn is a bit of a loner, Ashlyn isn't like the others, Ashlyn can see weird things. But, the story picks up once all the general, overused plot situations are mentioned in the first few chapters.
Firstly, the book was based in the UK. Can I get a hell yeah? It was a nice change from the college storylines; we went to University!
Secondly, the author had an interesting stance on the existence of both demons and angels (heaven and hell). I don't want to give anything away but it was lovely to have a story that didn't necessarily try to follow the herd.
Thirdly, I loved the concept of Ash seeing demons and her link to magic. Different, unusual and interesting.
Cons: I didn't mesh with some, if not all, of the characters. Ash was boring in most parts. I get that she was supposed to be the "different" kid, but please develop a personality! And both her Uni friends and demon seeing friends were very two dimensional at times; other than Howard, for obvious reasons...
My main issue, one half of the ending was in-your-face-didn't-see-that-coming. The other? So predictable my frown may be etched on to my face for a long while yet. It was going so well!
All in all, it was a positive reading experience. I think the good outweighs my cons (for the most part I was somewhat impressed) and I will look forward to reading the next instalment.
I received a free copy of this book, from the author, in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinions or thoughts, and any expressed are that of my own. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Darkness WatchingDarkworld Series, Book 1By: Emma L. AdamsNarrated by: Lucy RaynerThis is a great young adult fantasy novel that hooked me right away. Our gal can see dark spirits of demons. There is one on the loose that is after her now! Exciting and a great read! Can't wait for the next book!Narration was great too!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What I Thought:Wow! Just Wow! I loved this book! The book is laid out in a way that I believe matches exactly with the age it is marketed for. The book has a YA nature to it, taking a few chapters to really build itself, helping us get to know the characters. We especially learn about Ash - her personality, the way she thinks and how she deals with the tricks, games and challenges life throws at her. Unlike a lot of YA books, this book doesn't just focus on the brilliant fantasy writing (which Emma L. Adams has down to a T), it also focuses on just how indecisive uni-age people are, along with throwing in decisions on their future, battling with relationships, friendship woes and dealing with an ever-changing life. I particularly loved that Adams took a rather fresh approach to the demon/magic world. The whole premise behind the magical world, demon connections and visions and the Vanantium... Oh,yes don't forget David. The plot and pace of this book were great. The pace was slower at first, giving you the amount of detail needed to follow, deal with and enjoy the intricate world that this book delves into. It also open up the characters more, so that the series will have a lot of depth. The pace then quickens toward the end, as we reach the culmination- battles, shadow creatures, demons and more. I love the twists and turns in the plot of this story. There were so many surprises, that really added to the story. I won't go into to detail about this, as it'll ruin the read for you, but they are fab!Overall, I really was smitten with this book. I couldn't put it down, and really struggled to wait until evening to read more of the journey of Ash. Now that I have finished I can't wait to dive straight into the second part, a novella called Fear's Touch.
