- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I just liked how he came across as a regular guy, how he treated his fellow soldiers, stood up to superiors when they were wrong. He was a great Tank commander and that he lived to tell his story is incredible. I have a picture of him with his crew, in the dead of winter, atop his tank. Great book & I recommend it!

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Tigers in the Mud is worth your time.
This interesting account by Otto Carius reflects the mindset of many in his generation, refusing to believe or ignoring the horror perpetuated by the Third Reich, faulting the Americans in particular for their failures, not even reflecting on Germany's responsibility in starting the war in the first place, never mentioning the millions of Soviet POWs who died in Wehrmacht hands, not considering what his generation did to the Jews.
Hard combat does not wipe away a man's complicity, or a generation's. Carius seems to thin otherwise. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Jawohl! Basically a war diary - is interesting to see life from a war grunt's view but this guy didn't think all that much about his situation. I guess that in itself is telling, as I'd guess most veterans didn't delve into the mysteries of "why the heck are we doing this?!?". So, given that this is mostly a diary of one man's trail thru the german military machine, that is interesting, just not _super_ interesting.Good audiobook narrator
