About this audiobook

Melanie runs away.
From conflict. From pain. From reality.

When novelist Melanie Vander faces a looming deadline, she decides it's time for an escape to an inspiring, novel-worthy locale. She's not running away. Really. She just needs time to focus. But as she disappears into her writing, she encounters a man whose tenderness leaves her reeling. Engaging and wise, psychologist Elliot Hammond tempts Melanie to question everything, including her marriage.

But that's ridiculous. Dr. Hammond isn't even... real.

Melanie's husband, Craig, has his own problems, including a recession that's threatening his business. Waning finances, a looming home foreclosure, and a wife who's checked out emotionally have Craig feeling as though he's carrying his burdens alone. When his client, the beautiful and single Serena Buchanan, offers him a fix to his financial woes, he's tempted by more than her offer of a business solution.

At a crossroads, Melanie and Craig seem headed in opposite directions.

Will Melanie run again? Or will she allow her characters to lead her home?

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Home by Ginny L. Yttrup is an emotional and very poignant journey of healing.

During their twenty-three years of marriage, Melanie and Craig Vander have faced numerous trials but their latest problems might be too much for them to overcome. The economic downturn has taken its toll on Craig's construction business and they are barely keeping their heads above water each month. So it is the worst possible time for Melanie to miss the deadline for her latest novel but she is struggling to make much progress on her project. Even worse, her characters are taking the story in a painful direction and her efforts to get back on track are futile. When Melanie becomes concerned that Craig's feelings for his latest client run deeper than business, she borrows a friend's lakeside cabin in hopes of finishing her book without distractions. With Melanie both emotionally and physically checked out from her marriage, Craig is left to deal with the temptation of his beautiful client while at the same time trying to figure out how to avoid financial ruin. Will Melanie finally deal with the grief she has suppressed and ignored for so many years? Will Craig's prayers for his wife's healing be answered? Will Craig and Melanie find a way to save their marriage once they are reunited?

While Melanie is not a superficial person, she lives life on the surface and never delves too deeply into her own issues or those of her friends. She spends a lot of time inside the fictional world of her characters and her books are funny but without much substance. However, her latest novel does not fit her usual "brand" and instead of fighting her characters for control, Melanie decides to let them take the story where they need it to go. What it takes Melanie a long time to understand is her subconscious is hard at work trying to force her to face all of the issues she has failed to deal with over the years. Will Melanie take this opportunity to finally make peace with her past?

Craig is a wonderful husband in so many ways, but he also shares part of the burden for the state of his marriage. He has given up trying to communicate with Melanie since she shuts down at the first sign of trouble. While understandable, it is a vicious cycle that leaves Craig feeling overburdened as he tries to save his failing business. This in turn leaves him very vulnerable while he works alongside a beautiful client whom he can commiserate with professionally. When Craig becomes aware of her as woman, will he find the strength to resist the temptation to take their relationship in a more personal direction?

Melanie's best friend, editor and neighbor Jill Rodriguez is also going through a rough patch. She is plagued with nightmares as she struggles with dark thoughts and obsessive rituals. Although her husband Marco is incredibly supportive and convinces her to seek professional help for her issues, Melanie and Jill's friendship strengthens when their discussions finally go deeper than their usual lighthearted exchanges.

Home by Ginny L. Yttrup is a well-written novel with engaging characters and an engrossing storyline. The chapters are written in first person and alternate between Melanie, Jill and Craig's points of view. These shifts in perspective are clearly marked and each character has a very distinctive voice. There is strong spiritual element to the unfolding story but these scenes feel very natural and integral to the overall storyline. The characters' growth is absolutely phenomenal and occurs at a realistic pace. Although some of their actions are frustrating, readers will find it easy to relate to the characters and the issues they are struggling with. All in all, a deeply affecting novel of healing that is ultimately incredibly uplifting.

Title: HomeAuthor: Ginny L. YttrupPublisher: Shiloh Run Press Reviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"Home" By Ginny L. YttrupMy Thoughts....This story was quite a well written read where the characters struggles were definitely ones that could be faced by just anyone you may know. For Melanie and Craig were having some real hard times in their marriage where one could at one point or another not know to whom to feel more sorry for. Less not forget those neighbors who added quite a lot to the read. This is definitely one of those reads that will promote a lots of thoughts that will touch one just about on any level."Home" is of a real story of a 'family relationship, trust, romance, sadness, longing, love and less not forget a prayer' as each one of thee well developed characters will have their own struggles in trying to find there way home. Will these characters be able to overcome their struggles?"Home" will definitely help one to understand more about relationships that are often faced in today's society.

This was truly an experience to read. I wasn't sure at first if I could keep all the characters straight. The author bounced back and forth between characters in a way that helped me start to connect with them. It's funny how we go through life and suddenly a memory, a sound or even a smell will give us a glimpse of a long forgotten memory. I loved how the author dug deep into relationships, mental disorders and self worth and wrote a story so compelling I couldn't put it down. I easily identified with Jill. She starts having nightmares that she doesn't understand and they start to take over her life. Jill doesn't understand why she is having so much anxiety along with OCD. I was so upset when her mother felt no sympathy for her daughter. I sure know how that feels. What would it be like to learn a dark secret from your past? Could you confront those who held the secret from you? Jill's husband was a very understanding man and I loved his devotion to stand by his wife and help her seek answers. Melanie was difficult to connect with for some reason until I started to know her deep hurt . She is a writer trying to finish a novel and is stuck trying to decide what direction to take it. I loved how the author used Melanie's book she was writing to tell Melanie's story. If that doesn't make sense, it will as you get to understand her better. Her husband Craig is also a good man but I think there were times he was discouraged by their marriage. The story is very deep and emotional and deals with grief in a way that I found comforting. Each couple is looking for happiness and peace. Will they find the answers they are looking for? Will Jill have a breakthrough and be set free from the nightmares she has lived with? Can Melanie finally grieve for something she kept buried for so long? With strong characters and a story that captured the heart of family and marriage you won't be able to forget this story. It's time to find your home where you are happy and content."I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review."

This is the type of book that you aren't sure whether you will like or not but I loved this. It is a story of two couples that are struggling in their marriages with different types of problems. They learn what home really is. I loved Melanie and Craig and Jill and Marcos. Through a few trials they learn why they are struggling. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Whenever I have the opportunity to read a novel by Ginny Yttrup, I jump on the chance. Her books are beautifully written with powerful messages. As I began reading Home, I wasn’t sure that I was going to like it. The style is a bit quirky and the characters were, quite frankly, not likable at first. But this is Ytrrup, I reasoned. I need to persevere. Thankfully my compulsion to read every book I start kicked in, because I really liked this one and can recommend it.Three first person points of view (married couple Melanie and Craig and neighbor Jill) are used in Home. I did say it was quirky right? First person/present tense. This style can be a bit jarring, and with three voices, well, you can get confused. But I got into the flow of the narrative and learned more about what the characters thought, including their insights into each other. The result is a complete picture of two families dealing with trauma and grief. There is also the fact that one of the characters, Melanie, is an author. The result is a story inside a story, but that was okay too, because Melanie puts so much of herself and her husband in her books. So, quirky style, with a bit of humor added, helped lighten the themes of grief and mental illness. Whew! This one is emotional, but I never felt weighed down by the topics. I really wanted the three characters, Melanie, Craig and Jill, to grow and heal.My favorite part of Home is Yttrup’s creation of two very strong male characters — in women’s fiction! Craig, who has his own voice, and Jill’s husband Marcos are loving, caring, encouraging, very male characters. Bravo to Yttrup! Despite the flaws and temptations of all the characters, these two men remain rocks upon which their wives can depend. While it took me a bit to get into this book, I was soon turning the pages as fast I could. Home is a recommended read from me!Recommended.Audience: adults.Great for book clubs.(Thanks to Barbour for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)

I didn't know what I'd be in for when I met Melanie, a forty-nine-year-old, midlist author who emotionally checks out of life and her marriage, getting wrapped up in her fictional stories in Home, a novel by author Ginny L. Yttrup. That is, I suspected I'd be in for something normal-but-fantastical like Stranger Than Fiction. So when I got into the novel and found it was pretty somber and wasn't fantastical, I didn't think I'd love it. I thought, "Oh, dear, so is this one of those melancholy stories where everybody's giving each other sad smiles while they're inwardly rehearsing all the ways their lives are unraveling or burning to ashes?"Nothing against folks who do like melancholy novels, but I usually need comedy, thrilling twists, or something else more in contrast to balance it all out. Otherwise I feel like a book full of dry gloom is killing me softly. But this novel, as it dug through dark, tough issues, softly gave me life, after while. Yes, I, a writer, tend to be partial to books and movies that get real about writers. But this novel gets real, period, in a way that isn't sparkling but is still engaging. Well, I can't say that I personally found the pages of Melanie's manuscript the most interesting, since I wasn't invested in her characters, but the manuscript's effect on Melanie is so key. This is a beautifully written story that gave me a "God is here" experience that I don't get with all books. And, yes, I loved it._________________I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.

Home by Ginny L. Yttrup is a thought provoking and compelling book. A book that is not a light read, yet there are some light moments in it. A book about characters who have very real and troubling problems to deal with, yet find the strength and faith in family and God to work through those problems. A book about home, a place we all long for and yet not necessarily in the sense of an actual place but something more. Yttrup masterfully touches on the multifaceted issue of grief and the oft misunderstood issue of mental illness weaving faith throughout the story. And the faith is in a God who is there, who is present to bring the struggling one home. Home is an amazing book that will resonate in the hearts of many a reader.I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
