About this audiobook

Come Sundown named as one of Whoopi Goldberg's "Favorite Summer Reads" on ABC's The View and one of NY Post's biggest blockbuster "Whizbang Books" of the summer.

A novel of suspense, family ties, and twisted passions from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Obsession...

The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born. She never returned, and the Longbows don’t talk about her much. The younger ones, who never met her, quietly presume she’s dead. But she isn’t. She is not far away, part of a new family, one she never chose―and her mind has been shattered…

When a bartender leaves the resort late one night, and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it’s the first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them. The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him―and turning to him as another woman is murdered and the Longbows are stunned by Alice’s sudden reappearance. The twisted story she has to tell about the past―and the threat that follows in her wake―will test the bonds of this strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness she could never have imagined.

Good premise ruined by female characters who desperately wanted to be men. Pushing their weight around, doing their best to get in in the face of others isn't the way to build respect as women. I found it depressing to think bright, competitive women are protrayed as bitchy in an attempt to get respect. It's then hard to like the characters, making for an unsatisfying read.

Split decision on this one. The main character, Bodine, was not very interesting. She runs a ranch in Montana. Okay. Her sister Alice, who is missing for many years, has a much more compelling story. Yet Alice is not given as much attention as Bodine. I found myself skimming Bodine's story waiting to get to plots more interesting. Overall, not one of Roberts best but I give it a modest thumbs up.

I read/ listen to many books, can not remember a better one. The story line kept me interested the entire way. I at first thought a 17 hour audio book would have to be too long to keep my interest but was I ever wrong! Excellent work!

It’s like Nora Roberts wrote her own Yellowstone spinoff series. With Rip and Beth as the main characters (Cal and Bo). But with all the Nora romance and multigenerational female badasses you can always count on. A HUGE nod to the narrator. Audie winning deserving.

I love romance and I love crime and thrillers and Nora Roberts gives me this in one book. I could feel the sunshine and snow and see the wonderful mountains. These books take me away to another place while I am doing mundane tasks.

Overall a good book. There were parts that dragged probably because I am not into glam camping, which is a new phrase for me, or how to run a ranch. Alice’s story was heart wrenching and riveting and kept me totally engaged. Nora Roberts’ traditional happy ever after ending was the cherry on top.

She's back! This is the Nora Roberts I've been missing. This book was awesome! Yes it was dark and, at times, a little depressing. Rape is not an easy subject to write or talk about but, Nora did an excellent job with this book. The story line was tasteful and sad at the same time. Your heart just breaks for Alice for everything she endured. I also loved that the book featured several strong female characters from the same family. They really stood out. Grab your tissues and prepare yourself for an emotional read. This book will definitely have you in tears.

Come Sundown is set on a resort/ranch in Montana, owned by the Bodine family. It begins with a glimpse of the past...Alice Bodine is on her way home after running away, but she is kidnapped and held captive by a crazy man. No one knew she was coming home, so no one looks for her. Fast forward to the present and the family is all together on the ranch (except for Alice). Then a young woman is found murdered and the mystery begins. Is there a connection between this murder and Alice's disappearance? Once you get into the story, it becomes a real page-turner with a few romances thrown in as well.

I loved this story. Set on a ranch/resort in Montana owned by the Bodine family. Bodine Longbow runs the resort and her brothers work at both the ranch & the resort. A aunt that Bodine never met has been missing for many years. The story goes back and forth between what is happening on the ranch and what is happening with Aunt Alice. Callen Skinner comes to work for Bodine at about the time two women are murdered near the ranch. A twisted tale reveals some dark things have been happening close to the ranch for years. A good read!

    Come Sundown by Nora Roberts

    2017

It's been awhile since I've read a Nora Roberts book.
I've mostly read the series books. This definitely had a different flow.

It was a rather complex story about family and rekindled friendships. There is a long history within the Bodine Ranch that is rich with mystery and turmoil. Through the years the family has found its way to grown stronger and more connected as a result. The story overall was strong and provided interesting if not sometimes predictable characters. I found parts of the story to drag on in parts that I didn't feel added much to the plot. The lag caused me to lose focus on some key information which would have helped me piece together the conclusion.

I had hoped for more but it was still an enjoyable read.

This is another great story by Nora. She know how to add suspense in with romance and family. The woman who was trapped with a monster for 26 years was very sad and scary. At least, they found the man eventually. Boeing was a very strong and capable leader.

Another good Roberts novel. Needs to come with HUGE trigger warnings, though, so I had a difficult time getting through parts of the story. Worth it in the end, though. I'm really glad the characters are all open and honest with each other. The conflicts aren't born of miscommunication or dishonesty; they're horrible, outside conflicts that only serve to make the couples stronger. Now I want to travel to Montana.

Also, the state berry of Montana is the huckleberry. I know that know.

When danger lurks in the mountains around Bo's idyllic ranch and resort in western Montana, she turns to new hire Callen Skinner after they discover her estranged aunt badly injured and another woman is murdered.(summary from ISBN 1511367326)Another Nora Roberts stand-alone romantic novel. Interesting premise; suspenseful, and satisfying.

Excellent Nora Roberts! The plot and energy of this book kept me up way late at night reading! The description of the Montana landscape and the anticipation of what would happen to these woman next reminded me of the first NR I ever read, Montana Sky!

Another outstanding book by Roberts! It takes a lot to make me cry but this book did it especially with the audio performance added to it. Elisabeth Rodgers did a wonderful job playing Alice's character. She really nailed it! This is one book that you definitely need to listen to the audio so you can get the full effect.

Loved this book but I like cowboys. Great characters that are likable, great plot, and great setting. The story pulled me into the lives of the characters and made me care for them. Lots of action and a lot about relationships and what it's like to be in a tight-knit family and community. Good ending that was quick and terrifying. Well worth the read and great while on vacation.

Thanks Goodreads for the ARC copy.

Come sundown by Nora RobertsThe family business is running the ranch.Bo runs it when Alice Bodine and she's returning home with all of her posssessions. She recalls what had drawn her away...The story moves to the present day where we find Maureen ahead of her schedule.Other ranchers would be doing their chores. She runs the resort. Love the idea of what all the resort offers, all inclusive for sure. Like ideas for the winter holidays to draw more to the area.Story alternates between the ranch and resort to what Alice is going through.Like hearing of all the relationships, in all different age groups. The stories do combine towards the end when clues start getting solved. Love this book although it left me so scared and things were happening.Would make a great series with so many characters in the family.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
