About this audiobook

New York Times bestselling author of THE GOOD GIRL Mary Kubica is back with another exhilarating thriller as a widow’s pursuit of the truth leads her to the darkest corners of the psyche.

Clara Solberg’s world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident…until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon.

Tormented by grief and her obsession that Nick’s death was far more than just an accident, Clara is plunged into a desperate hunt for the truth. Who would have wanted Nick dead? And, more important, why? Clara will stop at nothing to find out—and the truth is only the beginning of this twisted tale of secrets and deceit.

Told in the alternating perspectives of Clara’s investigation and Nick’s last months leading up to the crash, master of suspense Mary Kubica weaves her most chilling thriller to date—one that explores the dark recesses of a mind plagued by grief and shows that some secrets might be better left buried.

Long and drawn out. The actors mimicking the child's voice is especially annoying.

The main character should be in great shape with all the jumping to conclusions she does. She is super annoying and I was happy to get done with this book.

I liked another book by the author but was rather disappointed with this one. I hated so much the interpretation of the woman's part, and the baby voice she uses for the 4 year old daughter as well as for the grown up neighbor, and I deeply disliked the character herself (how can a woman of today be so blissfully ignorant of the household finances anyway?!?) , that sometimes I just wanted her to shut up altogether. And in the end you just wonder what the whole thing was about.

It was rather long and I didn’t really enjoy the twist mainly as it was too realistic-which is a credit to the author for writing a believable story. The last line of the book was also a real heart wrencher! The narrators did an amazing job!

Basically a women accusing everyone of killing her husband and no big twist and ended uneventful, I don’t normally write reviews in general but this one was disappointing and I am easy to please.

I liked hearing both perspectives of Clara and Nick but there were so many loose ends...

Oooooh my soul. They set this book up to be so good, only to have a very anticlimactic and disappointing ending. I’m so bummed! Overall a big waste of my time :(

I love this author, but I did not enjoy this one. I don't think I've ever hated a main character as much as I hated Clara. She is so whiny and annoying. She jumps to so many conclusions without even trying to find out the actual truth. This character ruined the story for me. The narrator somehow made her even more annoying somehow.

There was nothing “thrilling” about this one. The story just went on and on and on and in the end, I wondered what the heck I had just listened to. I’m also wondering what “lies” there were exactly. I wish I’d read the reviews before spending all those hours listening to the story.

Good book to listen to. Gets boring at places, but you want what really happens at the end.

This one is definitely not my favorite. More confusing than suspenseful. I have to wonder if something happened with the streaming. Great gaps of this book seemed to be missing.

I was expecting the story to go somewhere but really ended in nothing much.
