      Hunger Moon is the fifth book in The Huntress/FBI Thrillers series and it is a powerful story. In the previous story, Bitter Moon, FBI agent Matthew Roarke and serial killer Cara Lindstrom had finally come face to face. This confrontation was nothing like Roarke had ever imagined and it changed him irrevocably. Cara had always been in the shadows but now she had become notorious and had to go off the grid in order to avoid capture. Roarke too went off the grid in order to deal with everything that had happened and to find a way to center himself.In Hunger Moon, Roarke had come back from his time in the desert and he had an entirely new focus in life, his mission was to form a task force with a primary purpose. After everything that he had seen and learned he was determined to do whatever he could in order to rid society of sexual predators. Unfortunately, Roarke was waylaid on his plans due to the political climate at the time and the increasingly aggressive acts of an activist group. In order for Roarke to have what he wanted he was going have to investigate the actions being perpetrated against a fraternal organization in Santa Barbara, California.Cara on the other hand had continued to do what she does best regardless of her location. She has been recovering on an Indian Reservation and doing what she could to eliminate the problems that were affecting the female population on the reservation. During her time of recuperation, it came to her attention that her notoriety had brought her squarely into the sights of an old enemy and time is not on her side. With Cara going from the huntress to being hunted the rules have changed and she must follow the trail that will lead her to the man who started it all.While both Cara and Roarke were regrouping, there was another organization called Bitch that had been building over the years and were finally getting ready to mobilize. Essentially, they were an anonymous group of people spread throughout the United States who were committed to ending the rape culture that had permeated America. They also had a political agenda where they were most interested in ‘cutting off the head of the snake’ so to speak. Their goal was to expose the sexual predators in all levels of government both federally and statewide. In addition, the organization wanted all citizens who had ever been connected to rape to be brought to justice. They were willing to stop at nothing in order to see their agenda brought to fruition.This series is written in a ‘current times’ timeline but set more in a dystopian America. So, when reading this story, you will see that it reflects the Authors feelings on events surrounding the 2016 presidential election but in a different America. How you will feel about that depends where you fall on the political spectrum. I do applaud the author on her moxie for staying true to her feelings and views on how she sees the political climate. I think this book however fictional does bring up a strong message on a non-fictional daily occurrence and that is rape, sexual trafficking, and abuse. Sexual abuse of all varieties occurs every day and although everyone agrees that it is a horrible occurrence there is more that we can do as a cultural to bring awareness to how prolific it truly is and what we can and should do to help raise awareness and educate ourselves in the process. The Author’s website has several links that she recommends as a starting place for information.Hunger Moon is an action packed political thriller that does not pull its punches. It is a graphic read that covers many themes of sexual abuse and terrible crimes against women. I am not a huge fan of political books because I read books to escape reality and although I enjoyed the portions about Cara and portions about Roarke I felt that the main elements of the story were a political agenda, vigilantism, and hate. It was well written and the details were very well done. I could imagine and feel everything that the Author had intended. Overall, Hunger Moon is a powerful story and is going to be the type of book that will have many readers who either will love it or those who will hate it depending on your political leanings.This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Xpresso Book Tours.
