About this audiobook

A SOCIALITE WITH SECRETS. Being stranded in the middle of nowhere in a blizzard is not heiress Mimi Van Hoyt's idea of a fun time. On the run from her latest scandal, Mimi just wants to start over. So when she crashes her car outside sexy Major Brant Western's ranch, she offers a false name, Maura, and begs for shelter from the storm. On leave from his latest tour of duty, all Major Brant Western wants is a hot meal and a warm bed. What he doesn't need is a stunning socialite in disguise who's just shown up at his family's Cold Creek ranch. The more Brant gets to know her, the clearer it becomes that "Maura" is hiding something. But when Brant finally discovers her secret, he might not be able to let her go

A story of a wealthy daughter who always was having her pictures put in tabloid and a Major Brant Weston. They meet because Mimi slides off road in a snow storm trying to get to her stepmom's. Her stepmom is away. So Major Brant allows her to stay at his place in hiding while she tries to deal with whatever she is running from. He recognizes her but does not let on.I will not reveal the secret to entice you to read the book. There is a lot in truth in love knows no boundaries - rich or poor - place in society. It crosses boundaries. We forget just because people have money, they are real people too who would like to live their lives sometimes out of the spotlight. A story of discovering love admist mistakes and fate bringing two people together. A story hard to put down.

I received this book as a free gift from Harlequin, but I liked the cover, so it did not take me long to get around to reading it. Normally, I find Harlequin romances formulaic in format and rather predictable. This book was a bit better than most, maybe because this is the second book that I have read by RaeAnne Thayne.I found the situation that put a Hollywood socialite at the mercy of a random cowboy / army major to be a little unbelievable, but once the plot moved past the initial stages, I liked the chemistry between Mimi Van Hoyt and Brant Western. The two characters were in many ways complete opposites, but they still complemented each other. It was hugely ironic that Mimi became homemaker to Brant's place -- nesting syndrome was kicking in early. I also did not expect the period of separation, though it fit with Brant's military duties. This book was a sweet, quick read that made me smile.

Not wonderful, but not bad - it ends better than it started. For the first few chapters, it felt like they were going through the motions - let's set up a nice romance trope and set them going! A poor implementation of the usual overwhelming attraction between entirely inappropriate people theme, especially when they gave in to it. But shortly thereafter - I guess with Mimi's accident - they started becoming more solid, especially as they shared their pasts. And by the end I was crying, and it was a proper HEA. Now I want more Cold Creek stories - I love interlinked series like this.

A thoroughly enjoyable book that doesn't slow down until Chapter 12, and at that point there's only 33 pages left so you might as well finish it in one seating. This isn't Gone With The Wind, but it's enjoyable, sweet, sassy, and has a happy ending. What more can you ask for in a romance?
