    K. Sparks Never disappoints! The story was sweet, funny, and a little HOT! I can’t wait to read/listen to the next adventure!

The fantasy plot and world building are thin and unevenly developed. The romance plot is not as feminist as it would like to be. My primary issue is that the woman's consent is assumed, rather than being an open question.

Although I probably wouldn't have picked this up if I hadn't won it in a giveaway, I actually ended up really enjoying it. The characters are engaging and the plotting has enough little twists and details to keep things interesting. There were some things that drove me crazy and pushed too far into comedy for me--the title being one, and the main character's name (when paired with his power) being another that constantly made me think of Thundercats from when I was a kid--but while some things were heavy-handed, I'm glad to have stumbled onto this one, and it was a nice, fast escape. I expect I'll pick up the next in the series, particularly in hopes that it will focus on some of the minor characters here who I found just as interesting (and in some ways even more interesting) than the main ones.If you like light, fantasy romances with some comedy thrown in, you should enjoy this one.

This is the first book in The Embraced series and I found it fun and fast pacing, as well as entertaining. In it you’ll find a tortured hero, a virginal heroine, plenty of villains and a lot of magic.

I was impressed with the world the author built, but disappointed at the romance, which hardly had any time to grow before it bloomed full force.

This was truly enjoyable to read and I would have had no trouble recommending it to even tweens, except it does contain sex scenes that are not suitable for them. Maybe the author should consider making this available to them as well, without the “R” rating.

If you’re this author’s fan, you’ll love this story and anxiously await the second installment to this series, So I Married a Sorcerer, which is coming out in August.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn SparksThe Embraced #1Loved this introduction to a wonderful new paranormal fantasy series filled with romance, intrigue, wondrous beasts and delightful characters. I found the prologue provided just enough information to set the hook that led me into the story. My guess is that the five sisters of the heart mentioned in chapter one will each get a book of their own and I look forward to reading each and every one of their stories. In book one Luciana learns she is not an orphan after all and has the opportunity to save her father’s life IF she is willing to return with him to his castle and marry Leo, The Beast of Benwick. With her skills of communing with ghosts, the need to keep her identity secret and an upcoming marriage to a man who can kill with a touch she is not sure what will happen but is willing to do what she can to save her father and his people. With assassins out to get her, ghosts telling her secrets and her growing attraction to Leo her life is never dull. Leo is equally attracted to his bride to be BUT worries that he won’t ever be able to touch her let alone consummate their marriage. This is a fun adult romance that has everything I like in a book. I was taken back to fairytales of childhood but with a more grownup story to read. I smiled at interactions, worried about characters, hoped that the hero and heroine would manage a HEA and am now eager to find out what will happen in future books of this series because this one was so very very entertaining. I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. This is my honest review. 5 Stars

This book was so much fun to read! This is the first book that I have read by Kerrelyn Sparks and I am now thinking that I have probably been missing out on a very good thing. This book caught my attention right away with the fun title and when I picked it up to take a closer look, I was immediately hooked. I actually read half the book without even realizing it because I simply couldn't put it down. This book focuses on Luciana and Lord Leofric, or the Beast. Luciana has lived her life on the Isle of Moon at a convent with her friends that she considers her sisters. She is shocked to meet her father but recovers quickly and agrees to go with him and marry the Beast. The Beast has led a life where he is feared by others because of his powers. He has rarely been touched by others since coming into his power because he is so dangerous.I really liked the characters in this book. Luciana and Leofric were both wonderful. Each of them had really interesting abilities that really added a layer to their characters. Luciana was such a caring person from the very beginning of the story when she gives up her life to protect the father she didn't even know she had. Leofric is thought to be heartless and tough. It quickly becomes apparent that he cares about others deeply but must distance himself out of fear of causing harm. He leads a rather lonely life until he meets Luciana.I liked Luciana and Leofric as a couple. They did fall for each other quite quickly but I wasn't bothered by that in this particular story. They had a nice banter with each other and Luciana did not fear the Beast as others did. They had a lot of chemistry from the very first time they saw each other and it only grew throughout the story. I had a lot of fun watching this pair get to know each other.I really enjoyed the world this book was set in. The special abilities of the characters were a lot of fun and added an interesting element to the story. I liked the almost medieval feel to the kingdom complete with evil king. The supporting characters in the story were very well done and I hope to see some of them featured in future books in this series.I would highly recommend this book to others. This was the kind of book that just swept me away into a fantastical world of romance. I can't wait to read more in this exciting series!I received an advance reader edition of this book from St. Martin's Press.

I am familiar with this author and her vampire novels. What I like about those novels is that each story has a strong set of leads (male and female). In addition, to be witty and a bit sexy. I like this new Kerrelyn Sparks. The beginning introduces the reader to five friends. So, it would allude to the fact that there will be at least 5 books in this series. In this first book, we are introduced to Luciana. She is down to earth. Although, she may come from royalty. Oh and I can't forget to mention that Luciana had a sister, Tatiana (she is dead). Yet, Luciana can communicate with the dead. Leo is a strong male presence. When ever he comes into a room, his presence just fills the room. He may be a Lord but he is also down to earth. In fact, Luciana is not the only one that has special abilities. Leo does as well. He has the ability of lightening. While I did like this book and new series, it felt like the story didn't start until the half way point. This is when Luciana and Leo actually met. Luckily, the secondary characters were not just throw away characters. So they helped with the story. The romance between Leo and Luciana was a slow build up. I am intrigued to read the next woman's story.
