About this audiobook

GODS. I'M AN IDIOT.

Without Griffin—and apparently a few meddling Gods—to push me along, I'd still be telling fortunes at the circus, lying about my past, ignoring my future, and living as far away from my tyrant mother as humanly possible.

True understanding thuds into place. Hope isn't just an abstract concept; it's me.

Flesh and blood me. Griffin knew it all along. Probably everyone did. I'm an idea in human form.

I have the power of the Gods at my fingertips.

The only thing ever stopping me has been me.

I almost didnt read this book. I had such a problem with the 2nd book I about put the series down and walked away. That being said this book is slightly better. In all honesty it's the story line that kept me going. It had such potential to be phenomenal. I loved the mythology woven in, the different twist to the Gods. The sex scenes were far less thank goodness bc I wanted to read this for the story not a porn script. Again Cat was an idiot over and over and at points I wanted someone to just smack her and walk away. I'm the chosen queen, I can't do this, I trust Griffin, he doesnt love me (over and over on this roller coaster). For hell's sack women grow a pair. Again there was alot of violence but this time around she doesnt die every other chapter (at least that's what it felt like).
I still had issues with this book. My biggest confusion is when Kato dies. My favorite character is the only alley who freaking dies. And it didn't really make sense to me. Why? So this idiot can be sent for a punishment bc shes too stupid and/or stubborn to listen to everyone and learn? The fight was over the enemy was not only controlled and forced to fight their friends and fellow soldiers bc of Cats mother but she also abandoned them. What fool would still try to fight the women trying to take a monster down. Apparently one. Who then kills Kato. I just didnt get it and then we are left hanging about what happens to him. All the Gods say are "hes where hes meant to be". Ummmmm ok, is that Hades? Cause the body disappeared so.....
Then we get to the big showdown. The one the last 2 books have been leading up to. The big bad mom verses the golden child. What a flop. I wont give into details as I dont want to spoil everything but i was extremely let down at the conclusion. It felt very anticlimactic.
GAH it's always so disappointing when a story line that had so much potential crashes and burns.

The overall story in all three books was good, main character is a little irritating with all of her back and forth in her head. And they left a huge hole in my brain about Kato… ummm where the hell is he? Thanks for the explanation.

Great end to the trilogy, loved it! I only wish the book had continued to her having Little Bean, I would have loved to meet her

The last book started out to slow but this came out roaring until a slight lull around the middle then it carried on to at a furious pace. My only quibble with this book was the Tartarus chapters, they went on for too long, especially the Perses scenes. Then the book just wraps itself up in the few remaining chapters, I wanted something a little more satisfying.

Woah - it just finished! Flat finished. Still written up as quests to be got through but still, i started to like the lead characters and then it just finished once the 'evil queen' was vanquished.

The finale of the Kingmaker Chronicles is action-packed and really puts our heroes to the test. Cat is pregnant, has unreliable magic, and is building an army to defeat her mother who is the most evil of evil villains. Cat's main problem is that she doesn't have confidence in her magic. All the people around her see her as the embodiment of hope for a new better future but she has her doubts. Those doubts are magnified when she finds out how much the gods have interfered with her life and with Griffin's. When Griffin's brother Piers calls a god to ask him to take her away from Griffin, she learns that her main protector when she was a child was actually Ares, the god of war. Of course, Piers's actions don't go quite as he thought. He missed the part of the scroll that said "call a god, lose a soul." Since Ares won't take a pregnant Cat, he has to choose between Griffin, who the gods want right where he is, and Kaia, his own innocent younger sister. Griffin sees Piers's actions as a major betrayal of him and his family. When Piers is sent off with Athena, Griffin is angry and betrayed and has his faith in his family tested. That is only one test the Cat and Griffin have to deal with here. When searching for a potion to make her unreliable magic more reliable, she and Griffin run into her mother who is posing as the hermit and, when poisoning her fails, throws her into a volcano. Only the sudden appearance of wings she didn't know she had save her. However, those same wings fail her when she is sent to Tartarus by Zeus for trying to assume a gods powers. Cat needs to finally believe that she has what is necessary for her magic to work reliably before she can escape and get back to Griffin. This was a great conclusion to a series that has been filled with action, adventure and romance from the very beginning. I like the worldbuilding and I really like the characters in this series. I love the relationship between Cat and Griffin. Fans of epic fantasy won't want to miss this series.

While I’m hugging my Toothless plushie and going into denial that the final book in series is now finished. I’m sorta lost with what I should do with myself now. I don’t want to leave these characters behind. I’m off to do a reread from book one.

I hate to say it but this was a bit of a disappointment. I really expected to love this book. I wanted to love this book. I didn't like this book nearly as much as the two previous books in the series. I thought it was okay and I am glad that I read it. This is the third book in the Kingmaker Chronicles and this review may contain spoilers from previous installments in the series. My experience with this book goes back to when I first saw the cover. I immediately thought that it wasn't the real cover and someone had uploaded fan art or something to Goodreads. I kept checking to see when the real cover would be uploaded. Weeks went by. I decided to go to the author's website to see if she had the cover posted and discovered that what I was seeing was in fact the real cover. I was shocked. I think that the covers for the first two books are awesome. This one is not. I kind of hate this cover. I decided that it was just a cover and it was just a cover and I could ignore it and focus on what was in the book. I think it might have actually been some kind of sign.Cat kind of drove me nuts in this book. I don't know why but she annoyed me. I didn't enjoy being in her head and I felt like this book spent a lot of time there. Cat is pregnant which puts everything in a new light. I understand how focused an expectant mother can be when it comes to her baby but all the talk of the little bean was too much for me.Don't get me wrong...I did like the book. There were some pretty awesome scenes in this installment and I had no idea how Cat would get herself out of some of the situations she found herself in. There was some real excitement in the story and I was happy to see all of the characters that I have grown to love over the course of the series play a role. There were some pretty major revelations that really explained a lot.I do recommend this series to others. This book does wrap up Cat and Griffin's story and has some great scenes. I did enjoy the two books leading up to this one a whole lot more but found this to be a satisfactory conclusion. I would not hesitate to read more from Amanda Bouchet in the future.I received an advance reader copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via Edelweiss.

A PROMISE OF FIRE reeled me in and BREATH OF FIRE kept me wanting more, but if HEART ON FIRE wasn't the last book in the trilogy I might not have picked up the next book. One of the things that drew me to this series was Cat and her kick-ass attitude and way of doing things, but I actually found her to be whiny and annoying at most times throughout HEART ON FIRE. I honestly felt like I was reading about someone else, because this was not the Cat I fell in love with. The plot, what the heck happened? Everything dragged so much that by the time it got to the meat of any situation I was just ready for it to end. We hardly see any of our favorite secondary characters as there is a lot of alone time with Griffin and Cat. In previous books, that might have been fine, but with HEART ON FIRE, I was just bored without them. Everything about HEART ON FIRE was off to me. My final let down of the final book was the fact that that there is no HEA epilogue after all that has happened in this series. It was very disappointing to make it through the final book with it's issues and not even get that. I'm sad that a series with such a promising start, crashed and burned in the end.* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
