About this audiobook

A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in this fun and flirty debut novel.

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend...

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other...

They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century—or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want...

Oh the start was so funny... loved the weird and cute moments between drew and alexa, but of course after the sweet moment rush, the truth settles in, what should they both do when they both keep thinking about each other and wanting more and more of each other.... what sort of compromises will they have to make or if they are even ready to make them...
this book had me giggling, laughing and tearing by the end of it.

I don’t know what took me so long to read this book. I devoured it in 3 days. I loved the storyline, the characters and the overall feel good vibes. I was anxious to find our what was going to happen next. But most of all I loved that the loved to eat! The perfect entertaining read to get me out of a reading slump.

Cute! There were some very annoying bits - misunderstandings and not talking to each other. I particularly noted the many many times each of them thought they'd made themselves so obvious... And the other didn't get that message at all. Good story, rich characters, believable situations. And a happy ending, of course/finally! Good - and I want to read the rest of the series, too.

This was a cute, fast and light read!

The main characters Drew and Alexa are fun and full of life. Though the plot is cheesy at times, it is still entertaining.

The main reason why I enjoyed this book, is because of Alexa. Her personality is infectious and there is nothing to hate about her. Plus being smart, independent and career driven- what more can I ask?

Although this looks like another fun romance novel, there's a solid story of the complications of an inner-racial couple. It's light and easy with some depth thrown in.

Pretty good for a romance. One of our book club attendees summed up this book the best. "If they'd have used what good storyline they had and cut out much of the hot sex scenes they'd have had a great short story", or something like that. Reminded me of "Kiss Quotient".

I liked this. It was a light, enjoyable read. The fact it was an interracial couple made the story more interesting.

Lightweight, predictable, and fun (notably the elevator meeting!) reading = more humor, with less angst and similar sexual scenes would have been welcome.

I've been reading romances lately as they're relatively light: great things to have around when your mental health breaks down and then you get Covid-19. However, I think I may have reached the end of my tolerance level with books that are just romances, and lacking in other plot lines.Alexa and Drew meet when they get stuck in an elevator together. They fall into bed together at the first opportunity, enjoy each other's company and all the sex, and start travelling back and forth between L.A. and Berkeley on the weekends. However, Alexa finds out from a bevy of Drew's exes that he's a great guy to date but that he runs shy every time committment looms. So Alexa, in love with Drew, runs first in order that she not get hurt. Will they find their way back to one another? It wasn't a bad story for what it was, but as I say, I'm tired of romantic novels and want to read something else, and this story suffered under my wishes for meatier novels.

I know I am late to the game with this one. I am not sure why I never grabbed for it. This series has been very hyped up in the bookish world, so I was worried I would not enjoy it as much. I thought this was a really cute and fun read. It was exactly what I needed right now. It was light hearted and did not have any deep deep emotional triggers. I loved how Drew and Alexa meet and how we get to see the relationship develop.Overall, this one was fun!

"She woke up a few hours later, her back pressed against his chest, his arms circling her. She felt like she was in a snug, warm, masculine cocoon. She had never realized how much that was the ideal place for her until just that moment. There was just one problem.
    She had to pee."

Haven't we all been there? My favorite part of this book was how the main characters had more to their story than romance. They had needs, from career goals, to hunger, coffee addiction, and even a need to perform bodily functions at the absolute worst times. I saw humanity in these characters, which made me connect with and love them more. I can't wait to delve further into Jasmine Guillory's novels!

Cute story with interesting characters. I like Alexa, the main character in this romance novel. She is not the perfect Barbie doll figure, but she’s smart, fun and confident in her career role as chief of staff to the mayor. The novel touches on the subjects of love, empathy, forgiveness, and careers.I especially liked this novel because I could actually feel the emotions of excitement, anticipation, sadness and the pain. Guillory did an excellent job with the writing and supporting characters were realistic. The language, emotions, and sincerity of the unraveling of the romance was mutually beneficial, refreshing and not complicated in its understanding. I look forward to reading the next book in the series “The Proposal”.

This was a cute, formulaic little love story. Honestly, it was emotional porn. We all want someone so devoted to us they’d fly cross-state to be with us every weekend and to look longingly at us like we’re a gift just for breathing. I’m not sure that’s so real. But it’s what one wants most in life — to be loved like that. The dialogue was so corny and gag-worthy. We always come back to that with me - unrealistic dialogue. That seems to be so hard to write somehow, even though most of us speak every day of our lives. ‘Are you -umm- glad that I’m here?’ Who asks that, especially when you invite yourself to the event? Very awkward. I winced reading that. Just one example among many.Either way, it was a cute story and I love that it was a love story not focused solely on white people. We always need more of that. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

{First of 4: The Wedding Date series. Chick-lit, romance} (2018)Alexa gets stuck in a hotel lift and suddenly realises there’s a hot guy with a suitcase stranded in the lift with her. They start chatting, there’s some chemistry going and she discovers that Drew is in town to be a groomsman at a wedding at the weekend and he needs a ‘plus one’ so she agrees to go with him. And things progress from there.Although the story is narrated in the third person you get both protagonists’ perspectives especially as Alexa lives in San Francisco and Drew lives in LA. There’s lots of shuttling between cities, bedroom scenes, coffee and food. A fun romp. About what you’d expect from the genre (without too much of the frustrating ‘why did they/ don’t they do that?’ Mis/ communicate, usually). I did find it distracting that her skin colour was an issue occasionally - it seemed tacked on to the narrative, the (very) few times it was mentioned - but it didn’t spoil the story for me. 3***

This seems to be a cute romance novel and apt for the days where you do not want to read something heavy. The writing style was a little different and I liked it. The characters are well defined and believable. The plot is unique where protagonists get stuck in a lift. Their conversation seems very cute in the beginning. When Drew tells Alexa about the wedding and his date bailed out on him, it felt a little dramatic. Their conversation about knowing each other over text messages was kind of cute.I will definitely read this book as the upcoming chapters look quite promising and I want to know what happens during the rehearsal dinner and wedding. I also want to know how their story progresses post-wedding.Thank you, bookishfirst for this opportunity.

I chose this book because many of the reviews that I read said that it was humorous. When I began it and found out that it might just fall into the genre of romance, I almost didn't continue. I did not have an alternative figured out, so I carried on. I am glad that I did. Yes, the focus of the book is a romance but the story was a fun one, other than the obvious miscommunication that occurred throughout, but, unfortunately, I think that occurs in many relationships.

Really enjoyed this breezy romance. I loved both characters, I loved the meet-cute, I loved Alexa's relationships with her sister, her best girlfriend and her very close friend who is a straight man (in romance the straight male friend is often portrayed as an impossibility.) I loved Drew's relationship with his best friend Carlos and his fear of making a decision. The story felt modern in ways so many books like these do not. The women characters were friendly and supportive of one another rather than bitchy and competitive. Both characters had equally compelling and important careers, The couple was interracial, and this did not impact every single thing that happened. By the same token things came up where race was relevant, and the characters needed to negotiate the differences in the way they experience the world as a result of the differences between growing up Black or White in America, The couple is in their 30'a and not freaking out because they are single. Alexa fills her Sephora bag with things she wants but cannot afford to buy (money is generally limitless in romances -- here the characters are a doctor and a lawyer working in government, and though more well off than many people there are limits.) All in all a real pleasure. Thanks for cheering up a very stressful few days!

Recently I’ve been reading some dismal books, and so I was very much in the mood for a lighthearted and romantic novel. ‘The Wedding Date’ by Jasmine Guillory is such a delightful romantic comedy about a high-powered, career-minded woman, Alexa Monroe, who meets a handsome, very eligible bachelor, Drew Nichols, in an elevator that goes on the fritz at the Fairmont Hotel. Alexa agrees to pose as Drew’s fake girlfriend, when he attends the weekend wedding of his former ex-girlfriend and best friend. The relationship between Alexa and Drew continues to ignite quite passionately and with fervor, but like many long distance romances, it does take its twists and turns. Without giving away the conclusion, let me just say that this novel, while being somewhat simplistic and predictable at times, was very enjoyable as an end of summer read. It somewhat reminds me of a Sophie Kinsella story, where the reader simply beams with delight throughout the entire experience.

I wanted to like this one. I really did. But I just can’t handle some of the choices Alexa and Drew made in the book. I just wanted to tell them to grow up and communicate with each other. The premise was interesting and it was well written but I couldn’t get into the story line.

At first glance, this novel looks as if it should have a lot going for it. The two leads are both committed professionals, they both have real personalities, and they have a really big difference: she is black and he is white. Given the author's breezy and amusing style, I expected a lot from the novel, and thoroughly enjoyed the first several chapters. Then, however, things flagged. There's a lot of sex, which is OK but gets dull when that's the main event. What there is not enough conflict to serve as a powerful propellant. There is some reference to the racial issue, but mostly from other people in the novel. And they don't seem to have much difficulty coping with two very demanding jobs. Of course there is a misunderstanding, and of course it is resolved, but the misunderstanding seems trivial. Pleasant read, but melts away like sugar candy.

I'm sorry to say this as I don't really enjoy hating on someone else's baby, but this is awful drivel and I hated it.It got a lot of buzz and I've waited for months through my library. I read the whole thing just to make sure I was giving it a fair chance, 'cause so many loved (or at least strongly) liked it. Honestly, this was a meet-cute of two of the most emotionally stunted and shallow characters I've ever had the "pleasure" of meeting in a book. It's really the quality of a Harlequin romance (no offense if you enjoy those) tarted up in a designer sheath and strappy stilettos. The back story: Alexa is black; Dean is white. She's a lawyer who works for the mayor; he's a doctor. She hasn't had a date in months; he's a serial hookup guy who can't handle intimacy and settle down. They meet when trapped together in a hotel elevator when the power goes out. There's a chemical spark and some flirting; he asks her to be his +1 for an upcoming wedding, she goes. Lots of "steamy" sex follows. What attracts these two people beyond lust and hormones is beyond me. She's dumb, but decently likable. He is Doctor Douche. Honestly, I was hoping the book would evolve, Lifetime movie style, into a cautionary tale about hookups gone wrong. In a parallel universe, this would be a dumber Dirty John. There's a follow-up book from this author and let's just say, this book was a one-night stand for me. I'm ghosting it and anything else that bears a resemblance to it. Suffice it to say, not recommended.

Fun and light, this one was a very easy read. The characters were annoyingly predictable at times, but if you keep your expectations low it’s fine. Definitely more romance than I was expecting.

The premise: Man needs a date for a wedding. Man meets strange woman while stuck in hotel elevator. Man asks woman in elevator to be his date. Woman agrees. Hi-jinks and romance ensue. When I first started this novel, I immediately thought of this commercial where a guy is playing with a beagle pup. If you've never seen it, it's the cutest thing ever in life! (Commercial link.) I could not get this commercial out of my head for the first several chapters (all during the actual wedding date). And the elevator scene is the cutest "meet cute" I've read in a while. I loved Alexa and Drew! She's black, he's white, and there are some cultural differences the author brings out, but this is a ROMANCE front and center. I love that; there are just enough references to make this feel real for its setting (American, but contemporary, progressive CA) and to ensure if there's a movie made out of this, you know what the cast should look like. (And I hope to see this on screen--it's been a while since "Something New" and this would make a great Rom-Com.) After I was done, I was looking for a book 2 with these characters. Not yet. However, I am looking forward to The Proposal which I think features Carlos, Drew's work BFF, whom I also loved! (I dare anyone not to). The story is sexy, fun, and full of food! I was craving a donut for the entire book! donut(Thank goodness it only took a few days to read.) These people seem to be eating amazing food all the time--I love that! But they definitely work it off, too. *wink* This is not even close to a YA book IMO. For the writer side of me, the writing is good. This has dual POVs, which can be tricky, but they are also very different voices and separated with evident breaks. Although there was one instance where the POVs got put in the same section, and it was slightly confusing. In general, I wasn't stopping to "mind edit" as I sometimes do for novels. And that's a great thing, because the story is a page-turner.So, get a box of donuts, take a weekend, and read this one! It's as cute as James Franco with a lap full of puppies! Franco with puppies!
