About this audiobook

From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Vixen and the Vet comes an unforgettable story about loss, redemption, and the healing power of love.

My name is Cassidy Porter . . .

My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was convicted twenty years ago for the brutal murder of a dozen innocent girls.

Though I was only eight years old at the time, I am aware-every day of my life-that I am his child, his only son.

To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity.

I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known.

It's a promise I would have kept . . . if Brynn Cadogan hadn't stumbled into my life.

Now I exist between heaven and hell: falling for a woman who wants to love me, while all along reminding myself that I must remain . . .

Unloved.

Contains mature themes.

Katy's books are available in English, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, and Turkish. Her books soon will be available in German and Hebrew. Katy lives in the relative wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut, where her writing room looks out at the woods, and her husband, two children, two dogs, and one Blue Tonkinese cat create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories begin at home. Unloved, a Love Story. Katy Regnery. 2017. Cassidy has built a life for himself a la “The whole-earth catalogue,” in the Maine mountains. He has promised his mother and himself that he will never fall in love. He is the son of a notorious serial killer and believes he cannot risk falling in love and having children. Byne is recovering from the death of her fiancé, decides to go to Maine to bury his phone on a mountain he loved. Cassidy and Byne meet and fall in love. What will happen? This is the plot. The violence and soft porn may not suit everyone.

I came into this not knowing anything at all about the story, and wow, loved it! The writing is already really good but the narration makes it SO GREAT. Joe Arden just melted my heart as sweet, innocent Cassidy, who is trying so hard to be a good person despite what everyone says. It's one of those books that once you start listening to it, it's hard to stop. Definitely recommend!

    Amazing. Darker. Hopeful. Gritty.
And the one set of words I rarely say - I never saw that coming.

Katy Regnery once again delivers the best in reading contemporary romance, and does so brilliantly with this unexpected tale. First, do not be wary of the title. You'll get a HEA that you know the characters will deserve as Ms Regnery never lets her readers down. But getting there?

    Mind.Blown

I feel that I am a rarity amongst the readership where I want - no - I demand that there is equal strength in the main characters. I felt I understood the whys of where Brynn and Cass are when their paths cross due to the perfect depth in the delivery of the back story.

Brynn. She is the ideal in a heroine I look for. Soft and vulnerable when needed, but delivers a strength that moves the story to an amazing conclusion. She's the friend you count on. The person you wish the best of everything. The woman you admire for her quiet tenacity and perseverance.

The reader knows: She feels unloved.

Cass. He is the troubled hero. The one you want to fix and make things better. Yet, you comprehend that with circumstance and time, why this man is this man. He is the gentle giant who will give the shirt off his back. The person you wish the best of everything but understand why not possible. The man you admire for his strength of belief and devotion.

The reader knows: He believes he should be unloved.

What happens when two people who have the best reasons for being unloved find each other in unusual circumstances? You have this story. When I say that Ms Regnery writing is magical, I am not talking about a separation from reality. I want to be entertained, but I don't handle when the writing veers and tries too hard. This story - wow - it kept me compelled to continue until wee hours of the night because I was equal vested in their outcome. The reading was paced where the pages flowed flawlessly. I finished the story feeling fulfilled as I always do with Katy's writing. And yet, this was different and intriguing to have me still thinking about it days after finishing.

If you are a fan of Katy Regnery's Blueberry Lane/Heart of Montana series, this is a departure from those happy and delightful stories. But I implore you to read it because she delivers something equally if not better in this story. If you are a fan of Ms Regnery's fairytales, I know you will be enamored for this tale to join their ranks. Not a fan? You soon will be. This is a 5 star read for me and yet feels like those are not enough to express how much I loved this story.

This started out with a pretty dark tragedy, then moved into a series of stubborn and possibly unwise actions by heroine Brynn (which totally fit with where she was in her life and make sense as a natural response to the tragedy, but I was still sort of shaking my head at her), and then she met Cassidy and I just melted.Romances with this type of hero are pretty rare, and believable circumstances for it are even more so, but Katy nailed it. As a side note, I really liked Cassidy's different-colored eyes — so unique and memorable.Once I got stuck into this book, I couldn't put it down. Even if grieving heroines and overly challenging wilderness hikes aren't usually your thing, this is absolutely worth reading. The message? When the right time comes, you must set your grief and history behind you and open your heart to love.4.5 stars (rounded up to 5)

Brynn knows all about pain. Two years ago Brynn lost her fiance, Jem, to a senseless act of violence. Since then, she is a shell of the woman she once was. Abandoning her friends and family, she has carved out her life living as a hermit, not even leaving her place to buy groceries. On the day that would have been her fiance’s 30th birthday, Brynn decides to go through the box of items she has kept in remembrance of him. Inside the box is his cell phone, still in the sealed evidence bag given back to her by the police. The same cell phone he carried on the night he died. Without even thinking, she pulled the phone out of the bag and plugged it into the charger. What Brynn did not expect was to see an unsent text message that simply read katahd that he must have typed moments before his death. She knew what the message meant. Mount Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine, where Jem said his soul had lived until he gave it to her. Brynn knew what she needed to do. She needed to climb that summit and finally put Jem to rest for good.

Cassidy did not have an easy childhood. While he loved his mother, he did not necessarily like his father or know him very well as he was hardly ever home. His father was a trucker and gone most of the time and was only home for three days a month. Cassidy never felt the love for his father the way a child should as he never felt comfortable being around him. Its possible that even deep down inside he know what his father was. One day, while his father was home the police came knocking and take his father away. Turns out, his father was a serial killer- raping and murdering women all along his trucking route. As Cassidy grew older, he often wondered if he could ever turn out just like his father. It did not help that his mother and grandfather, the only real father he has ever known and loved, were scared for Cassidy as he had his father’s DNA and may turn into a monster just like his father.

Cassidy was determined to lead a quiet life, never marrying or having any kids. It would be the end of the terrifying genes that he carries inside of himself. For the rest of his life he would never know what it would be like to touch and love a woman. Cassidy would never want to put another person at risk if he ever became dangerous due to his genetic makeup. For this reason alone, he lived off the grid, away from people and the world. His only consolation was hiking along the Katahdin, close enough to hear other hikers, but not close enough to ever be seen.

On one such hike Cassidy crosses paths with Brynn and for the first time he feels something, an attraction – a need to be near her. Things start to become even more complicated when he rescued Brynn from an attacker. The one thing Cassidy has been hiding from for most of his life is now staring at him right in the face. Can Brynn pull him out of the lonely existence that he has carved out for himself? Or will Cassidy always remain Unloved.

UNLOVED, A Love Story by Katy Regnery instantly pulled me in with its premise. I have always been interested in serial killers and stories centered around serial killers seem to draw me in. While we don’t learn much about Cassidy’s dad, we do get to learn what it was like for Cassidy growing up as an outcast in a society that shunned him. His story was moving and heartbreaking. I just wanted to jump through the pages and hug the little boy he once was and tell him that everything would be OK.

Katy Regnery’s writing style is flawless. She knows just how to suck you right into the story from the first page to the last. You are taken on an emotional and heartbreaking journey between two wounded people as they claw their way out of the darkness that has taken over their lives. What is left is a sweet and tender love story that is heartfelt and beautifully written. Katy Regnery’s storytelling is done so effortlessly and she knows just how to grab your attention and keep it. I have to say that UNLOVED,A Love Story has quickly made it to the top of my keeper list. I highly recommend you grab a copy of this book and fall in love with it just as I did.
