Dance is a Cinderella retelling and I really liked the twists in this version. It was like a cross between Cinderella and Mulan, Set in medieval China. Mai the main character is skilled in martial arts and to get away from her stepmother signs up to the Emperor’s army. Being a skilled swordswoman is not what happened in those days though, so a spell is cast and everyone thinks she is a man.
This was a fantastic retelling because there were so many differences, but at the same time there were so many similarities too.
It was written well, the plot was good and the world building made this all come together.
I would definitely recommend it for Cinderella and Mulan fans.

I really enjoyed this book and how it seemed to combine Cinderella and Mulan into a single character so well. I also look forward to reading more about this world and the characters in it.
