About this audiobook

John Grisham says THE TUMOR is the most important book he has ever written. In this short book, he provides readers with a fictional account of how a real, new medical technology could revolutionize the future of medicine by curing with sound.

THE TUMOR follows the present day experience of the fictional patient Paul, an otherwise healthy 35-year-old father who is diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Grisham takes readers through a detailed account of Paul’s treatment and his family’s experience that doesn’t end as we would hope. Grisham then explores an alternate future, where Paul is diagnosed with the same brain tumor at the same age, but in the year 2025, when a treatment called focused ultrasound is able to extend his life expectancy.

Focused ultrasound has the potential to treat not just brain tumors, but many other disorders, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, and prostate, breast and pancreatic cancer.

For more information or to order a free hard copy of the book, you can visit The Focused Ultrasound Foundation’s website. Here you will find a video of Grisham on the TEDx stage with the Foundation’s chairman and a Parkinson’s patient who brings the audience to its feet sharing her incredible story of a focused ultrasound “miracle.”

Readers will get a taste of the narrative they expect from Grisham, but this short book will also educate and inspire people to be hopeful about the future of medical innovation.

Interesting topic and science... too bad this tech isn’t used more. You would think that since 2015 things would have progressed more than they have.

John Grisham is one of my favourite writers. Here he has moved away from his standard genre to write an inspiring book to support research of a new technology to improve and prolong the life of those who are suffering from terminal diseases. Highly recommended!

I've enjoyed this medically informative short update from John Grisham. We've all seen too many loved ones expire needless before their times. Thank you Mr John Grisham. My dad's favorite author. He lost his battle in "99" . I went thru his collection of Grisham books after he lost his battle with cancer. Linda McGary

This really does sound like breakthrough technology. It was great of John Grisham to write about this people will probably pay attention because they know his name. It is a very important research going forward. Thanks for writing this book John.

Grisham says several times that this is the most important book he has ever written. I’ll take his word for it, since this is the only one I have read.
I like to hear about innovative medical treatment approaches; and medical ultrasound is innovative. However, the tone of the book is like one of those pyramid schemes for so-called dietary supplements. Grisham’s claims for his favorite technology are far from proven or even generally available. The worst part is that he encourages people with some pretty bad diagnoses to seek out a clinical trial expecting a “miracle cure.” He actually uses that term. If a person enters a trial expecting a miracle cure, those conducting the trial have failed in their responsibility to obtain truly informed consent, which is a serious offense against research ethics.
That said, I hope medical ultrasound can be proven safe and effective and fulfills the promise he is so excited about.
