About this audiobook

City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father, and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K.A. Tucker.

Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at twenty-six, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.

She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional—dear God—outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah—the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational—can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.

Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship—or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried—and failed at—years ago.

It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

First half was vapid - second half meaningful. It’s ok as a background listen but was a challenge at first to relate to main character (Calla) it was so trite. If I had been reading it I would’ve put it down. The second half got decent. But it’s a slog in the start

This was my first K. A. Tucker novel and I feel need to binge all her other books. I loved the characters and just the atmosphere this book was. The banter I’m a sucker. And I can relate to this character so much when it comes to her father. Highly recommend!

Nice tender story. It was difficult to know when Calla was talking or the words were what she was thinking.

Based on the reviews, I expected to like it more than I did. I did not vibe with the protagonist and perhaps the narrator's voice didn't help with that, but overall it was a good audio production.

I've had this book on my TBR for ages and I finally read it. Ended up loving it as much as I knew I would when I added it to my TBR all those years ago. All the good reviews did not lie. I had a great time listening to this story, and some tears were spilled too ??

You know I had moments I could not stand but those only lead to my heart melting later on. This was such a beautiful read with a balance of love for community, family, romance, and growing together. I love seeing the uncomfort of patching something broken to only find that you create something more beautiful. I loved this book truly.

It was a really good read. I would have rated it 5 stars but there was a trigger of cancer in there that was hard for me to listen to at the end. But other than that it was great. The characters and their relationships with each other was probably the best part.

This book had so much potential to be a 5 star book for me… but it continuously left me wanting more. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVED this story. I loved the bearded rugged grumpy bush pilot from Alaska who falls head first for a city girl from Toronto. I loved the found family. But every single time I thought I was going to feel some deep emotion… the author pulled a fade to black or completely skipped over it and did a recap in the next scene.

    "It's not the same.
    What's not?
Alaska. You've ruined Alaska for me."

The barbie and the Yeti's small town romance was so cute but I needed more smut lol.
I'm excited for more of them. I however don't get Jonah's whole make-up thing.
Simon is only a side character but he is the best human being to ever exist.
Also, I don't think the grief part of this book was explored in depth..Or maybe I'm just grieving and wanted the validation.

This… this book. Just wow. I don’t cry easy, and I can’t even count the amount of times I had tears in my eyes during this one. It was beautifully written, and the relationships were so real, every single one of them. You will not regret listening to this one.

I know this is the first book in a much-loved series, so please don’t poke needles in my voodoo doll. Here goes: The Simple Wild was just okay for me.

I disliked all the characters, particularly Calla, our pampered-princess star. Ugh. Her character arc did sorta redeem her in the end, which I appreciated.

Most of this story is more family drama than the expected romance, which is neither a positive nor a negative, but simply an observation.

I was bored with the slow pace and irritated with Calla through the first half, and I might’ve given up had this not been a buddy read. The second half picked up, and the final quarter saved the book for me.

Though it takes a while to get there, this story takes on some heavy topics. Full disclosure: Because my own life experiences mirror Calla’s in substantial ways, I came into this story with biases that made empathy a challenge.

The narrator is excellent, making a so-so book more enjoyable for me.

This book started out very rom-com meets Hallmark romance-like, but then…Alaska! The descriptions of the indigenous people, the beauty, the treacherous land and weather have the book “wings”. When one of the main characters receives a fatal diagnosis, the same given to my father 30 years ago, I found myself drawn into the story and mourning the character and my father with sobbing and tears through the last chapters of the book. Take a literary journey through Alaska and enjoy this well written and narrated book. I won’t soon forget it.

I really enjoyed this book set in Alaska. I could have done without the language though. What i thought was funny as someone who has lived up in Alaska my entire life is finding a few inconsistencies. If your not from here you would never know but it gave me a chuckle. One was we don’t have ANY raccoons here. You have to watch out for bears on your trash here. We have bears get our trash every summer and i live in Anchorage! Overall i liked the feel of the book and i’m looking forward to the next one.

I am a PG reader, so the spice level and the language was not my cup of tea. Also, I don’t think I liked Calla much, but I LOVED Jonah, Ren and Simon! I also loved the Alaska back drop, the flying and the community aspect!

this should’ve been one book I just discovered that these couple have another book ugh i loved the small town vibes and all, but the romance felt bland to me and rushed like they crushed on each other after just 1 WEEK of meeting each other I can’t believe it
