About this audiobook

*Winner of the 2019 Odyssey Award**Winner of the 2019 Audie Award for Young Adult Audiobook*

"Courtney Summers's powerful story of love, neglect, abuse, and revenge is narrated with irresistible urgency by Rebecca Soler and Dan Bittner, along with an ensemble of supporting narrators...this is a production that will not be forgotten" — AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award Winner

An innovative audiobook production featuring more than thirty voices, Sadie explores the depth of a sister's love — poised to be the next story listeners won't be able to pause.

A missing girl on a journey of revenge and a Serial—like podcast following the clues she's left behind.

Sadie hasn't had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she's been raising her sister Mattie in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie's entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister's killer to justice and hits the road following a few meager clues to find him.

When West McCray—a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America—overhears Sadie's story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie's journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it's too late.

Courtney Summers' Sadie is propulsive and harrowing and will keep listeners riveted until the last chapter.

More praise for Sadie:

"An electrifying thriller, taut as a bowstring. A coming-of-age tale, both gritty and sensitive. A poignant drama of love and loss. This -- all this -- is Sadie: a novel for readers of any age, and a character as indelible as a scar. Flat-out dazzling." — A.J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

"A haunting, gut-wrenching, and relentlessly compelling read. Sadie grabs you and won't let you go until you've borne witness." — Veronica Roth, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Carve the Mark and The Divergent series

Editor's Note

A breakout hit…

Sadie has a stutter, a switchblade, and a will of steel. She’s declared missing after she embarks on a journey to find her sister’s killer, and a radio personality picks up her trail to create a popular podcast called “The Girls.” It’s a heartrending thriller perfect for anyone addicted to the podcast “Serial.”

It's always hard to describe books that deal with such hard topics, and I think that's because we've all been conditioned to keep our months shut. We don't talk about the "taboo". This book was incredible. Courtney Summers is a brilliant writer and this is a timely piece of work that is enhanced by the podcast style.

Really a 3.5 stars for me The audiobook was so well done, definitely 5 stars there. And the story is cleverly written, but the ending really ruined it for me. Some readers will probably love it, but I like things tied up with a neat, little bow. This one doesn’t give you that.

This book was so raw and beautiful! Enough suspense and action to keep me listening. The audiobook actors are amazing and engaging! some parts were hard to listen to and made me feel Squamish but that’s the point of it and they were an important part of the storyline. I like the open ending that keeps me guessing and thinking!!

    Sadie
    4.5/5 stars

    Immediate thoughts:

So first, definitely a bit of a trigger warning for sexual and child abuse.

I really enjoyed this book. It was uniquely written with the chapters alternating between Sadie’s POV and the podcast trying to unravel the mystery of where she’s gone. I read along with the audiobook and it was The Best Decision! A full cast of actors really brought this book to life and added so much to the story. (More Of This!)

Sadie is a dark and depressing story of a murder and a survivor exacting revenge. I would lean toward an older YA audience for this one, but it isn’t overly graphic. It feels weird to say “I loved this book,” because it isn’t a lovely story at all. It is heavy. It deals with abuse, neglect, poverty, and something that always bothers me, girls who are forgotten. “Runaways.”

I won’t give much away, since it’s a mystery. I will just say Courtney Summers did a spectacular job with this. Sadie is a beautifully raw character who has never been given a break by the world. It is emotional and the formatting and plot flowed so perfectly. This book is going to stick with me for awhile.

My only frustration: I need one more chapter! ?

A heart wrenching read, as the first book I’ve listened to on audio form, I’m in love with the full cast of characters and the format in which Courtney Summers wrote Sadie. I wish and hope there’ll be a sequel, it is deserved.

This. Book. Wow. It's heartbreaking, and beautiful, and although it unsettled me at first, you can't help but get sucked into it and feel for the characters. And that ending. Wow. I'm not really used to reading thrillers and am more of a fantasy person myself, but I 100% recommend this book to anyone.

I'm broken and I'll never stop crying and I will never be the same again. Sadie deserves all the best in her fictional heaven for all the suffering she'd been through cause noone should've been put through what she'd been put through. And it's even sadder that author didn't even give her the ending.

Such an incredible audiobook. I cleaned every inch of my house just to have an reason to continue listening. The voice actors were great but the story was more than that. So glad to have found a new favorite book.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is heartbreaking, intense and gruesome. And yet, it shows how far a sister will go to find the truth about what happened to her sister. As someone who wants to help women and children who have been abused and battered, this story showed me how much help these children need from predators like Jack. I am so glad I read this and even though it was an intense book to listen to, the audiobook made it worth while. I could not recommend this book enough. But I warn you that there is talk of sexual abuse, pedophilia, murder, violence and drug abuse

Wow. I have cried, I have laughed, but most importantly I want to hug my mom for being so strong in what she went through. WARNING: the story is heavily based on sexual abuse and pedophilia. If you are triggered I don’t recommend this book.
