      Kit Jernigan has just arrived to begin her new job with the Monroe Police department to find a bombed out town. She and her K9 tacking bloodhound Justice find themselves in the middle of all sorts of secrets and falling for the nerdy Forest Service fire spotter Wes March. Wes isn't very good with people and is barely known to the town but somehow the two of them just click.I liked the suspense as an assassin has come to town to finally get her revenge. Kit is just about the only one who is suspicious of her since she is very good at playing the shy, victim card. I liked getting to see how characters from earlier books in this series were doing.I liked Kit's relationship with her dog and her desire to fit in now that she is in a new town. I could understand why the other cops were secretive but wished they would have given her more of a chance. Having read the earlier books, I did know the secrets that the others were keeping. I liked the romance. Wes was a great character. His combination of genius and social awkwardness made him an unusual romance hero. This feels like the end of the series since most of the plot threads begun in earlier books were wrapped up in this one. Fans of romantic suspense will want to add this series to their reading plans.

      Through the Fire was fun to read because Kit’s character was new to Monroe and I loved seeing the existing characters in this series through her eyes. It was fun to see her perceptions of the small town and what had taken place there. I also just very much enjoyed Kit’s character. She was a tough cookie but still sweet and smooshy on the inside. She was also very perceptive and was the only one able to sense that something was not right with one Monroe’s residents. Her fellow officers were used to the secrecy that surrounded certain female residents so they ignored signs that were blatantly obvious. Knowing the history of the series though, it was easy to give the other characters some slack. Still, some of the situations were pretty obvious and even I thought to myself that the male characters were being a bit to obtuse. It was nice though that Kit stuck to her guns and followed through with her hunches.There was one male character who definitely stole the show for me and that was Wesley March, I adored him utterly! He was way too cute! He was not a sexy alpha male but he gave me all the warm fuzzies that an adorably awkward love interest would, I just loved him. Although not expressly written, it seemed as if Wesley could have been on the spectrum. His character was highly intelligent, shy, and functioned better when he was away from the town and its inhabitants. His aloofness with the town residents changed though when he met Kit and because he found someone that he wanted to get to know better and was willing to endure others to do it. He was just unsure of how to get to know Kit and so he relied on the input from his sister. I loved their relationship and how his sister was there for him. Such a positive sibling relationship. As far as Kit and Wesley went, they were two shy people whose courtship was not hot and heavy but it was sweet and powerful all the same. Such a sweet romance for two characters who both deserved the best.One of my biggest issues with Through the Fire has nothing to do with the story but had everything to do with the cover. The guy on the cover does not match the description of Wesley at all and even so, the story is about a female cop. I would have preferred Kit to grace the cover and a tough looking female cop would not have been a cover turn off at all. That was just very disappointing to me. The story itself was great because the overarching plot from the series was nicely finished, the villain was truly demented and all the loose plot threads came together at the end. The star of Through the Fire though was truly the romance between Kit and Wesley, definitely one of my favorite romances thus far, they were just too adorably awkward and shy, it made my heart happy to watch them court each other.       The fourth and final installment in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series.

      A new officer joins the K9 unit. Kit Jernigan wants to start over in a small town, which leads her to Monroe Colorado. Unfortunately we know from the first three books, Monroe is anything but quiet. As this book opens, the town is half destroyed from bombings and fire. And the K9 unit isn't open to a new outsider.

      And on Kit's first day, there is arson and murder to contend with - again. Also on her first day, Kit meets Wesley March, the local forest fire spotter - and sparks of another kind start to fly.

      The romance between Kit and Wes is really sweet. And in this final book, all the linger story lines are resolved, including the long running thread of Jules and her step-mother. Really nice ending to the entire series.

      Through the Fire by Katie RuggleRocky Mountain K-9 Unit #4Kit Jernigan arrives in Monroe, Colorado with her bloodhound, Justice, ready for her first day of work only to find she is running late with a trailer on the back of her vehicle unwilling to easily line up and back into her new driveway. To her rescue comes a rather different sort of hero who guides her into the perfect spot to leave that trailer before heading off to work. Her reception by the other policemen on staff is not warm but she does get through it and quickly is out on the job at a house fire that proves to have a murder victim inside. One murder, then another and perhaps more by a rather crazy and surprising culprit with a motive darker than most I have read is finally unearthed and eventually dealt with. Of course the three men from the previous book, the women they ended up with, the siblings of one of the women, dogs aplenty, the mountain folk and mysterious Mr. E make an appearance and have parts in the story even though this is also the finding of a HEA for Kit and Wesley “Wes” March. Who is Wes? Well, a rather quiet, definitely large, seriously intelligent, almost hermit-like and unusual man who proves to be just what Kit needs to complete her life…just as she completes his. This is the end of this series and it was good. It provided closure for the women in Monroe while leaving me wondering if perhaps Mr. E would get a story with a HEA of his own.       Throug the Fire by Katie Ruggle is a suspenseful Romantic Suspense with twists and turns and a few surprises. Is was my first time Katie Ruggle, but I hope to read more. I do feel "Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series", Book #4, should be read in order. While it was not difficult to catch up, I think one book builds on the order.This is the story of Wesley March, hot, local fire spotter and Kit Jernigan, local K-9 officer. Set in a small mountain town, Monroe. A new twist on an old plot, this time the female is the savior. Steady paced, with action, Romance, a murderer, suspense, passion, a tracker bloodhound, and more. Unpredictable and unique.
