    Commander Sazar is the ultimate diplomat but not a very good boss. In fact, he’s awful because he has the habit of biting his personal assistants. As a Pitch-Blood Kindred, he needs blood on a regular basis and since his beautiful wife is dead, he is forced to take it from the female who is closest to him. Five secretaries have quit because of his blood requirements and he’s desperate to find a new one before he goes on his latest diplomatic mission to Alquon Ultrea. Desperate enough to take on a girl with very little experience and no resume to speak of because she’s willing to let him bite her and drink her blood.

    Desperation might have brought them together but Sazar and Sarah soon find they have much in common. It’s Christmas time and a deep mutual attraction draws them together.       I guess I wasn’t supposed to expect an adult (not a kids’) story. Thank goodness I had this as an audio book. Turned it up to it’s fastest setting just to get through it. If I hadn’t wanted to read the resolution of the father and son relationship, I would’ve trashed it after chapter one, even tho I knew what to expect. Spent an inordinate amount of time trying to balance my disappointment with my critical faculties and the unbelievable surprise at encountering such cognitive dissonance. Great setup, leading reader to believe this is going to be an intelligent, well crafted story. Wow. Why did I think this would be an adult level story? It’s exactly the same as “Seeing With the Heart”, another disappointment. The broken father son relationship suggested a storyline with some depth and substance. The letdown is still irritating. Feel betrayed and confused. It’s as if a skilled author started it then stood aside and said “ok, you take over” to the high school girl whose only experience with writing is her diary. My dilemma was that I didn’t want to be mean. but now I’m wondering if I should attempt the next book or stop with this series right now. I noticed the promo lists “Acclaimed author” and I am wondering whether PR agents are not held to the same truth in advertising standards as the rest of us. Cant appreciate this author’s fantasy of female degradation and I admit I don’t even understand it. It isn’t even humiliation. Why even go to the trouble of making a semi intelligent start? Predictable, yeah, but even more annoying are the repetitive tropes, e.g., little sarcastic voice in her head, same themes in every book. Way more childish than I expected. Wish the dedication shown to world building had been spent on plot, character development because this story line showed so much promise at the beginning. Am so very disappointed.

      A great love story with the fiercely protective Kindred males. Sarah escapes from an abusive compound only to find herself in a similar situation with her new boss.

      3.75 stars it’s a decent story the only problem is that they are all following the same script lately. Man and women go to a planet where they demean either men or women then they have to perform a intimate act to save themselves from being killed, rinse and repeat. I wish we just got a book set on the kindred ship or on earth so it could be a different story line, I mean what happened to the original kindred courting rules from book 1?

      This book was so amazing! I was literally bawling like a big baby at certain parts and that is not an easy accomplishment!! There is so much to this story that makes it memorable for years to come!!
