- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Intrinsically, this book isn't especially interesting. If you're a follower of the cat, Maru, on the internet you'll probably like this book. If you're a cat lover (I own four cats), you'll find this book amusing, but there are better photo books of cats, e.g., The Big Book of Cats. We purchased the bilingual edition as an aid to our daughter for helping her with her Japanese lessons. The text is in English and Japanese (hiragana). Most of the text is rather simple, such as "My favorite chair" and "It's fun playing with a towel." This makes it very useful for my daughter to practice reading Japanese. I might recommend other simple, children's bilingual Japanese books for the same purpose, such as The Moon Princess (Kodansha's Children's Classics) which we also own and use for the same purpose.Arigato, Maru!(This review has also been posted on Amazon.com)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5My son is a huge Maru fan. He enjoyed all the pictures and little stories.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I have nothing but contempt and disgust for someone who declaws a cat then uses it as a money making figure.
Why not remove the finger and toenails along with the first joint of your hands and feet then video your own adventures in a box or the trash where you belong.
It is understandable that Mark does not want to be held. H no doubt equates it with memories of the pain he suffered as a kitten when you had his claw a removed.
How nice that you kept your furniture free from cat scratches
I am surprised you left him his teeth.
My hope is that one night when you are asleep he tears out your carotid and you bleed to death. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5i ABSOLUTELY LOVE MARU! BEEN A FAN SINCE IT APPEARED ON YOU TUBE. LOVE THE WAY IT IS WRITTEN. !
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Unbelievably self-indulgent pap. I'll give it 1.5 stars because the cat can be cute, but this was one of the silliest, stupidest books I've read in a while. I'm glad I checked it out of the library instead of paying for it. Recommended only for cat lovers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you are already a fan of Maru, either from his blog or from I Can Has Cheezburger, then you will enjoy this book. It is much like Maru's blog with lots of cute pictures of the expressive, round-headed Scottish Fold, narrated in the same whimsical, slightly lost-in-translation style. If you're not already a Maru fan, I suggest you visit YouTube for some of his box-sliding adventures before picking up this book. In short, general cat lovers & Maru fans will give it a big thumbs up.

Hello, this is Maru.
Hi! I’m Maru.
Born on May 24, 2007, Maru is a male brown tabby Scottish Fold, who looks like he is wearing a pair of charming white gloves and socks. You would expect to see folding ears on a Scottish Fold, but Maru is prick-eared. You will find out more about Maru later, but here he comes for self-introduction.
About his name, Maru
:
Rounded shape (Marui)
was my first impression of him. Round eyes, face … everything! Actually it wasn’t the reason I came up with the name, though. I’ve always wanted to name my cat Maru
because it’s easy to call. Soon Maru learned his name coupled with the time of meals. When he hears his name, he comes rushing over to me with great anticipation. Well, sometimes I just call him for no reason. Sorry, Maru!
