    INTRODUCTION

If making positive changes in our lives were as easy as simply reading something, recognizing the truth in what we’ve read, and then seeing our lives instantly change at the recognition of that truth, life would be much more enjoyable. However, it’s not that easy, as we all know. God warns us that we must lay off the old man and put on the new man. We must tear down strongholds in order to bring our thoughts into obedience to Christ (which is going to be the occasion when we see our lives really change).

This takes place over time. Over the next few weeks, even years, God is going to allow you to encounter opportunities to rely on the truths presented in The Search for Significance. Your response to these situations will not change God’s love and acceptance of you or your eternal union with Him. However, the Father is serious about preparing you, His child, for eternity. He wants to weed out the hurtful, painful strongholds that are currently robbing you of the life Christ has provided. And that’s where this devotional journal comes in. It is designed to help you put yourself in a place where God can begin to work on you and break down those strongholds.

To get the most out of this devotional journal, you will want to first make sure you’ve read The Search for Significance, for in that book you’ll discover the foundational principles for this sixty-day guided journal. If it’s been awhile since you’ve read The Search for Significance, you may even want to go back and reread it before you dive into this journal.

Don’t get caught up in being legalistic about your journaling; that is, don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day or two every so often. But at the same time, realize that completing this journal will be in your best self-interest, for by the time you’ve finished it, you will not only comprehend more clearly the breadth of Christ’s love for you, but you’ll also experience what it means to walk in the freedom of that love. The more you are able to put on the new man, the easier it will be to win out over the old man.

Today, more than ever, Christians need to know who they are and the victory they have in Christ. My hope and prayer is that this devotional journal will take you one step closer toward gaining that knowledge and experiencing that victory.

    WHO HAS THE ANSWER

    I’M LOOKING FOR?

And He said, Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, Do you also want to go away?

But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go?You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

    KNOWING THE RIGHT QUESTION

What are the various reasons people search for their worth anywhere else but in God?

Whether labeled self-esteem or self-worth, the feeling of significance is crucial to man’s emotional, spiritual, and social stability and is the driving element within the human spirit. Understanding this single need opens the door to understanding our actions and attitudes. What a waste to attempt to change behavior without truly understanding the driving needs that cause such behavior! Yet millions of people spend a lifetime searching for love, acceptance, and success without understanding the need that compels them. We must understand that this hunger for self-worth is God-given and can only be satisfied by Him. Our value is not dependent on our ability to earn the fickle acceptance of people, but rather, its true source is the love and acceptance of God. He created us. He alone knows how to fulfill all of our needs.

Think over the past twenty-four hours. When did you feel most valuable? Describe those situations.

What would be different in your life if you walked around with that valuable feeling all the time? What would this world be like if people everywhere felt valued?

In John 6:6569 Simon Peter came to the place each of us hopefully comes to—God is the only one who has the answers. It just takes us awhile sometimes to start asking the right questions. How does God answer the question of what makes you valuable?

Today, right now, in this moment, what do you feel you’re worth? On what are you basing your answer?

    TALK TO GOD

Heavenly Father, it takes time for me to sort through all the things I think I need in order to get down to my most basic needs. Sometimes the small things in life cause me to scurry past
