    INTRODUCTION

Winning at Entrepreneurship is a new and innovative way to strategize for business success. Unlike most how to guides, this book promotes strategies for the business and the business owner. As a life coach and attorney, I wanted to take a holistic approach to entrepreneurship. The aim is to prepare you on a business level, but also empower you on a personal level. I believe if you truly want business success, you have to start at the core, and the core is YOU.

In the self analysis process, you will begin to recognize how your habits, attitude and thought process can affect every area of your business. I’ve worked with companies from Wall Street to Main Street, and one thing remains the same. A company with the potential to soar will crash without effective leadership. Are you an effective leader? What habits do you need to change? Are you compassionate and firm or arrogant and mean? No matter where you are on the personal improvement scale, there’s always room to improve. When you initiate personal development strategies, you maximize your business success.

So this book is divided into three sections: You, Your Business and Your Success. Are you ready to be bold? Are you ready to lead fiercely? Do you know the pitfalls that lie ahead? Each section of this book is meant to guide you through building a great you and building a great business.

    Section 1: You

This section deals with looking inward and recognizing what drives you to be a business owner. It uncovers your strengths, areas for improvement, and your underlying fears. You will:

Discover what drives you to be an entrepreneur

    Relinquish your fears about entrepreneurship

Examine your abilities and address your weaknesses

    Eliminate distractions and find focus

    Section 2: Your Business

This section is about starting, funding and protecting your business. Think of it like a big check list that walks you through the process, step by step. You will:

Understand why market research is critical to profitability

Get clarity on your target consumer

Learn how to beat your competitors

Discover the different types of business structures

Learn about common legal issues that affect entrepreneurs

    Section 3: Your Success

The last section of the book is about tying together all the information in previous chapters and creating a game plan for success. You will:

    Get mentally prepared for entrepreneurship

Understand the common characteristics of successful people

    Learn how to network effectively

    Get an affirmation to win

I truly believe you can win at entrepreneurship. I applaud you for taking control of your destiny and daring to be your own boss. You can do it! Your business can make it. You can win!

    SECTION ONE: YOU

Chapter 1: ARE YOU READY FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

Congratulations! You are taking a huge step in the right direction. The moment you picked up this book, you began the process to ownership. Owning your own business is beyond rewarding. Kudos to you for taking time to learn more about what you should do and why you should do it. Educating yourself will serve you well. After all, everyone needs a roadmap and the roadmap to starting your business is beyond invaluable.

Entrepreneurship is like a roller coaster. There are twists and turns, highs and lows, but excitement all along the way. The ride is thrilling and the rewards are too. In fact, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching your business dreams unfold before your eyes. How great is it to take an idea and implement it for profit? It’s the American way. And make no mistake; you can be a successful power player in your field. But first, you have to be clear on why you want a business and if entrepreneurship is right for you.

There’s always an underlying motive to your endeavors. Understanding what drives you to be a business owner is important. It keeps you on track and more importantly, focused on your goal. So let’s explore your desire for ownership and identify your motives.

    Why Entrepreneurship?

Did you know each year thousands of entrepreneurial hopefuls attempt business ownership? In fact, statistics from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) indicate over a half million businesses are born each year. More importantly, SBA data reveals only 25 percent of those businesses will last more than 15 years. That means 75 percent of those businesses either failed or closed. If longevity is your goal, first define your motive. Through the ups and downs of business, it’s your motive and passion that will carry you through. What motivates you to be an entrepreneur?

Are you ready to be in control of your destiny?

Are you a dreamer with a passion for business?

    Are you unemployed and frustrated?

Are you dissatisfied with your current job?

Are you seeking control of your schedule and time?

Are you looking for another income stream?

Are you seeking to turn your hobby into a profit?

Are you interested in a particular franchise?

Are you a stay-at-home parent looking to work from home?

Remember, no matter your motive, use it to stay focused on your overall goal. In the space below, write your motive
