About this ebook

The digital film making revolution has over taken the available material that can be produced on a low to micro budget. With this book On Writing A Low Budget Screenplay I will offer clear and easy to follow lessons about what it takes to craft the low budget screenplay. There are dozens of things that you have to consider before sitting down to write a low budget screenplay. Location, cast and time are things that screen writers never had to consider before. They did not have to learn about the business of film making. The digital film making revolution has changed that.
On Writing A Low Budget Screenplay will not only offer advice and rules that must be followed if you wish to craft a script that can be produced for a few thousand dollars, but how to look at your script from the view of the film maker. What they want when asking for a low budget screenplay. This book is short and to the point. It does not take more words to tell you how to write a low budget script than are actually in a low budget script. On Writing A Low Budget Screenplay is a must read for the screen writer in the new micro budget Dslr dominated world.

Some interesting starting points and perspectives on low budget screen writing. I liked the idea stated by the author claiming that low/no budget doesn't necessarily mean low/no quality!

Chapter One.

The Digital World.

The world of film making has changed dramatically during the last five years. Calling it film making is something that is done out of habit. To be truly accurate it should be referred to as digital feature movie making. Most movies both big and small budget are being shot using digital cameras.

There are cameras that cost a few hundred thousand dollars. These massive digital video cameras are used by the major studios. There are cameras such as the Red series that cost between five and fifty thousand dollars. These cameras offer impressive image quality and are used by the filmmaker on a modest budget.

Then there are the Dslr cameras. Consumer cameras like the Canon 5d mark II and the Canon 7d, the Canon T2i and T3i. The Panasonic Gh1 and Gh2. These cameras that range in price from five hundred dollars to three thousand dollars offer image quality that can stand up to the cameras that cost in the fifty thousand dollar range.

These advancements in technology have made it possible for low to micro budget movies to be made.

This drop in the cost of the equipment used to make motion pictures has resulted in a new boom in the film making industry. More movies both large and small will be produced this year than in any previous year. With online venues and digital on demand existing as tools to market these films there is a growing demand for film makers to provide quality material.

This is where you come in.

These film makers, perhaps you are one or hope to be one, need quality scripts that can be shot on a low to micro budget. Writing such scripts is a skill that can be learned. There are basic rules and considerations that must be focused on to do this. In this book I will map out all that you will need to know to produce a screenplay that can be shot for between five thousand and one hundred thousand dollars.

Understand you may get paid little or perhaps nothing up front for your work, but back in profits can be had. If you are a low budget film maker it is better to learn the skills needed to keep your budget to a minimum before you start writing your screenplay.

Chapter Two.

The Business Relationship.

You must understand that you are entering into a business relationship when you produce a screenplay for a filmmaker or a production company. You have been hired to do a job. Treat this as a job.
