Some on the other hand may have been online for years and are just looking for some new ideas to add to their portfolios at this time. Working at home can be a daunting task if you've never done it before. It forces you to go out on your own both physically and mentally. After all, there is no more boss to rely on. As far as the questions that are bound to come up, there are gurus out there (us, for example), bloggers, forums and many other resources to gather your information and get your questions answered quickly. Remember, there is always a solution. Always. You just need to look for it and be tenacious about finding it.

What else can you expect? Sheer joy when the money starts rolling in, of course! There's nothing like it! Here's a scene: you put in the time, you executed your plan, and you stuck with it. So you tweaked your business plan, you waited and were very patient and boom! Here come the greenbacks. Amazing and all on your own. It means there is no one to pay but yourself. Just your taxes. All of it's yours. No middle man most of time. The point is, it really is worth it in the end.

Now here's another thing to think about. Who is rich in this world? Well, you have old money of course. This is the established incomes from families that have gone through the building process already. Then there are executives. They can pull down over 7 figures per year in the extreme case. Six figures easy. There are the inventors. They usually sell the rights for big bucks. But do you know who else is rich in this world? The business man (and business woman, of course)! When you own your own business, you get all the money. Period. A small online business can pull in 6 figures profit and it's no big deal. There are just so many ways to do this, even this ebook can't cover them all.

Here's an example: John Chow. Some of you have heard of him. John Chow is a regular guy who took his personal blog where he wrote an article or two a day about whatever he wanted, to an 80K-a-month business. He says 50K a month on his blog but trust us, it's more now. He also has the #1 Clickbank offering right now. Don't even go there for how much that alone makes him. His blog simply talks about how to make money (mainly blog stuff) and helps people. 80K a month. That's insane money to some people. It's almost a million dollars a year right? All from writing 2 articles a day? So why so much money? Well, we could get into why Chow's site in particular is so popular but instead just realize this; he makes all the money. Chow does. Not his boss or the multiple employees or even the landlord of a leased office space because there is none. Just him in his house.

Another example to show you where the money's at is with an offline venture. Take a guy that starts a small business that grows to 5-10 employees. For example, there is this guy we know who sells hoses. He just sells different hose sizes and fittings to other companies. These are usually industrial hoses. A very simple operation relatively speaking. This guy has about 7 employees and they earn just above minimum wage. This owner makes nearly a million dollars a year and lives in a very nice suburban neighborhood. Be your own boss. If you can take it (and some people just hate it), then you can reap all of the benefits. Take a vacation whenever you want, no one to answer to, your own hours. (Most of us here work from 5 P.M. to 2 A.M. We're night owls. It doesn't matter, we have no boss.) And of course there is the money. That's the whole point right?

Part I - The Basics

Introduction

There are 4 Basic Types of Work at Home Businesses. This ebook focuses entirely on the online business. We may write another ebook for the offline home business (car detailing, day care, dog grooming in your home, etc.), but for now, let's get into the internet type of businesses. The four types of work at-home businesses are: Affiliate Marketing, Content Creation, Selling and Service.

Affiliate Marketing

Introduction

Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to get your feet wet in the home business market. It usually requires no money down and you have no overhead and no customers to deal with. You don't have to answer the phone or even let anyone know who you are. Affiliate marketing is the method of making money when you steer people to the products they seek. You're paid for this referral in a commission. A classic example of this is when you place an ad on your website to an Amazon product. If you're an Amazon Associate (scroll to bottom of page, look for Amazon's affiliate program), you will get a percentage of what was purchased. Amazon works like many affiliate companies do in that they give you an affiliate ID and when a potential customer clicks through your ad, link or other gateway, if they end up buying a product within a certain time frame (the cookie's expiration time) you will get the commission. This typically does not need to be the product they were even looking at. It can be any product they search for after triggering that cookie from your link. The cookie is on their computer and whatever they buy, you'll get credit for. Amazon's credit is around 4%-6% which is great if someone spends hundreds or even thousands on a purchase. People do earn six figures from this method all the time.

So if it sounds so easy, why isn't everyone doing it and making $100,000 per year? Well, it all boils down to the simple fact that you have to have traffic for this to work and that's the game. Typically paying for traffic vs. what you'll get back doesn't work well. The ROI (Return on Investment) usually won't play out in your favor this way. Getting organic traffic, which is just when people search on Google, Bing or Yahoo to find your site, will get you free potential customers. This is awesome but is hard as hell to achieve. Especially for a new site. It's all a process that you must win at to make your easy money. And affiliate money can be the easiest money of all. It never sleeps even when you do. A money-making machine would be nice, wouldn't it? Imagine making $10,000 a month and working a couple of hours a day and that's all. This is entirely possible with affiliate marketing.

Another way to use affiliate marketing to your advantage is with a product review. This is where you'll post a review on something that has an affiliate account available and at the end of the review (and within the review) you'll have your posted affiliate link for a potential buyer to click on. People like reviews. They are already interested in the product or wouldn't be there in the first place. Now, with a good review from you, they can be convinced to buy. You'll get the credit. With a good Clickbank review, instead of 5% or 6% commission from Amazon, you can get $50 or more from one purchase. We're not even counting the money from recurring fees the customer might have. You get that money too. All this from your little review posted online. Sound amazing? It is and it really works. People make whole careers out of just Clickbank marketing alone and so can you!

Video is another solid method to use for affiliate marketing. With video you will typically do an online tutorial, pay for a Fiverr testimony or make a review or spotlight on a product yourself. There are many ways to make a good video. You can use software that shows your mouse and PC desktop while you talk about the product. You've probably seen those before. You can also show the features and do a simple review this way. The bottom line is that you can make a video, get the video seen and have your affiliate link available for commissions.

Affiliate Networks

Amazon Associates

Amazon is amazing. They do all the hard selling for you so all you have to do is just sign up and send people their way. Amazon is different from all other affiliates in that they have everything under the sun in their store. Many times you'll get orders and see they ordered a product you've never even heard of. They go through your link and just buy a different product all together or sometimes multiple products at one time and all with your affiliate code attached. Amazon is a trusted seller so people just shop there, plain and simple. If you trigger that cookie, it's all golden for you, my friends.

What is the Amazon Associates program?

Amazon Associates is one of the first online affiliate marketing programs and was launched in 1996. The Amazon Associates program has a more than 12-year track record of developing solutions to help website owners and web developers. Amazon sellers make money by advertising millions of new and used products from Amazon.com and its subsidiaries. Two of these are Endless.com and SmallParts.com. When website owners and bloggers who are Associates create links and customers click through those links and buy products from Amazon, they earn referral fees. It's free to join and easy to use.

Clickbank

Clickbank is amazing as well. A lot of people try their hand here. It's a proving ground of sorts. It's tough but if you can get it to work for you the commissions are just wonderful. $30, $50, even $100 a pop. Plus there are all of those recurring commissions you can get. You just push them in the right direction and the Clickbank vendor will do the rest. The hard sell and upsells are all done by them but you gain the profits. Of course with every silver lining... well you've heard that before. The dark in the silver is the competition. With all good things comes the never-ending competition. Of course there are ways around this. Many people have found a little niche and succeeded that way. You can do the same.

Commission Junction

Where Clickbank offers mostly digital products, Commission Junction has physical products. This is your go-to affiliate company for pitching and referring people to physical products for a commission. Commission Junction has been around since 1998 and is trusted by home business entrepreneurs. The process is slightly different in that you must apply for individual accounts for each product that you want to pitch. Some of the best products are held for established affiliates or those affiliates with a long and standing account. Don't worry though, you have to start somewhere and we suggest you jump right in to get your feet wet. Here's how.

First you'll need an account so you can apply to be an affiliate for each product. Go to http://www.cj.com/ and select become a publisher. With CJ, being a publisher is actually what they call an affiliate. So select the free publisher signup button. Once you've signed up for your free account, you can start applying for individual products.

Affiliate Direct

Introduction

With the Affiliate Direct method you bypass an affiliate network and go straight to the product manufacturer and - on a smaller scale - sometimes with the product's owner. This is a highly effective way to grab commissions from products you recommend and advertise. Using this method you basically skip the middleman. This is always a good thing if you can do it. In this case, you would go to PayDotCom, as this is who they use to handle all affiliate activities. CPA / CPL

Introduction

CPA stands for Cost per Action. It is basically an ad just like Google's AdSense, however the main difference is that you get paid when an action is performed and/or completed, not just clicking it as with AdSense. The action is typically when someone submits some type of requested information like a zip code, a phone number or an email. Sometimes they'll need to fill out a quick survey too. The payouts are much higher for this type of affiliate advertising vs. PPC (Pay Per Click) ads like AdSense. Some examples PPC ads are where a zip code submittal will pay you around 50 cents and a membership commitment can pay up to $20 or more. The highest payouts for CPAs are in the neighborhood of several hundred dollars for things like cancers or attorneys.

CPL stands for Cost per Lead. It's the same type of system but you're paid on the basis of any leads generated through your ad. Lead or action, these are very similar in nature.

You'll need to apply to some CPA networks to have the ability to place ads on your website, blog, email list, mail outs or other form of advertising. It works with links too. To do this, you will typically need to have a working website or at least a reasonable explanation of how you will market their offers. Don't worry if you're rejected at first.
