About this ebook

Pura Belpré Award, Illustrator Honor
Latino Book Award, Winner

Green is a chile pepper, spicy and hot.
Green is cilantro inside our pot.

In this lively picture book, children discover a world of colors all around them: red is spices and swirling skirts, yellow is masa, tortillas, and sweet corn cake. Many of the featured objects are Latino in origin, and all are universal in appeal. With rich, boisterous illustrations, a fun-to-read rhyming text, and an informative glossary, this playful concept book will reinforce the colors found in every child's day!

Great book for learning Spanish words and the Mexican culture and traditions.
The colors present in the illustrations are translated, while other words are not, but there is a glossary at the end of the story.

I see this book read in school.

    Educational, five stars.

diverse picture book (colors / toddler/preschool ages 2-6)
    * Book prominently features diverse characters: yes, the main characters belong to a dark-skinned family of Latinx descent. The text is mostly in English, but introduces colors and illustrated terms in Spanish (which are also defined in a glossary at the back).
    * Book would work for a toddler/preschool storytime. The text is nice and short, and the identification of the colors invites audience participation. Teachers/readers might struggle a bit with the Spanish pronunciation of the words, and there is no pronunciation guide, but thankfully there are no double-r words for me to fail to roll.
    * Book works well with the "colors" theme.
