About this ebook

What's the market price on a decent guy these days?

Maggie Beaumont's luck is about to change. Sure, she's known for her bad romantic choices—her former boyfriend broke up with her by bringing his new girlfriend home for a visit. And then there was the crush she had on a gorgeous young Irishman, who turned out to be Father Tim, the parish's new priest.

But romantic salvation has arrived in the form of handsome, if surly, fisherman Malone. It turns out there's a heart of gold underneath his barnacle-clad exterior. Will this catch of the day turn into the dish of a lifetime?

Oh, but this was a joy. A standout among Kristan Higgins romances, all of which are arguably charming. But CATCH OF THE DAY just has a little something extra in it. It's hard to pinpoint what, exactly. Is it the setting of Gideon's Cove, which celebrates the eccentricities and tight-knitted community that has been romanticized about American small town culture for forever? Is it Malone and Maggie's atypical romance, which initially smolders, unbeknownst to all, and all of a sudden catches fire? Whatever it is, it carries this whole story so well. I can't wait to return to Gideon's Cove someday.

Feel like such a sap, but there were a few tears in the middle of this one. Loving her writing.

Maggie is funny. I love Maggie. She has had the worst luck when it comes to love. Now she is pining for a priest! Maggie finally finds a potential suitor and it is the least likely candidate.

This is laugh-out-loud funny at times, a light-hearted story of a woman who owns a diner on the coast of Downeast Maine. In her 30's, she feels her biological clock ticking away at the same time she has a serious crush on the local priest. A twin with a close-knit family, Maggie loves her community but is ready to settle down. Too bad her hot romance is with a non-talker whom everyone thinks is churlish and gloomy.

I was once again surprised by the sweetness of Kristan Higgins' books. This one was a little heavier on the internal dialogue of the heroine (Maggie) than I would have liked, and less so on the connection and the romance between her and Malone. At the same time, I liked what did develop, not to mention the laugh out loud moments. I also liked the unexpected ending for Chantal, and the storyline about Maggie's parents. The secondary characters were all pretty enjoyable as well. The sour notes that took it down to a 3.5 for me were what I felt was some unnecessary meanness about a couple of Maggie's dates as well about Chantal and the rather abrupt ending. After several hundred pages of Maggie's thoughts (and that's mostly what it was since Malone was so very silent), it would have been more satisfying to have her be able to enjoy the HEA a little bit more than she did. In fact, I felt like Chantal's story got a happier ending than Maggie's did, just because we had more time to enjoy it. I was also a little annoyed that we didn't get a better explanation of why Malone reacted so horribly to Maggie's cooking for him. I felt there had to be something more behind it than what we finally got, which was...nothing. With that all said, I kept wanting to go back to it. So, overall, that's a major positive for me.

This was a cute book all the way around, from its eye catching super sweet cover (who can resist the puppy?) to its predictable yet un-disappointing ending. In this story local diner owner and identical twin Maggie Beaumont's love life has never been a mystery to anyone in her small town. From her disastrous first love affair in high school to her crush on the parish priest everything about her relationships has been part of the local entertainment for years. Still on the search for the perfect man with her trusty golden retriever at her side Maggie suffers the blind dates and set-ups of well meaning friends and family, never suspecting that Mr. Right might be closer than she thinks and the last person she would have ever guessed.Although parts of the story were predictable, still others were cute with a couple red herrings thrown in for a twist. I guess what I enjoyed most were the "Maineattudes" of this small town's residents. I never realized Massachusetts boaters were annoying enough to garner their own nickname (being from the Bay State myself, although not a boater). I did find Father Tim to be one of the most annoying characters I've read in quite a while. The romance between Maggie and her hero seemed a bit of a side note in this tale of Maggie's woes. Despite all that there was one scene that put me into hysterics (Oliver's groin) and it was worth reading the entire book just for that. This was a decidedly non-steamy romance for those who prefer the more innocent stories that seem to be rarer as time goes on. Overall I found it to be an interesting and fast read although a little too churchy for my usual tastes.

I'm glad I read Higgin's other books before I read this one. I had high expectations since I really loved her other books specifically, Too Good To Be True. But I found the character of Maggie annoying. She humiliates herself a lot. She's in love with a man that she can't have - a priest. But I never quite understood why she felt such a connection to him. The "hero" is a loner and doesn't really talk much. I was looking for more to tell me what Maggie saw in Malone. Their romance felt rushed.

Being not so secretly in love with a priest for a year makes it difficult to find a date. Living in the same small town (Gideon’s Cove, Maine) as you grew up in and owning the only diner in town, makes it so Maggie Beaumont knows everybody that lives there and they all know her. All of her most humiliating moments have been shared with the whole town. Her twin sister Christy has the perfect family and that is all Maggie really wants for herself too. Father Tim knew of Maggie’s crush on him and so he tried to set her up on blind dates to help her move past it. She willing went on several dates, until she started seeing the silent and slightly scary lobsterman known only by his last name, Malone. He had lived in Gideon’s Cove since high school so he knew a lot of the same people that Maggie did. Malone preferred to be the quiet one, he didn’t like to share himself, his life or his past and when the energetic talkative diner owner started coming around, he was faced with parts of himself that he never bothered to look at before. This is a story that can touch your heart in more than one way. The relationship between the twins and their little brother (Jonah), it’s fun to see the bickering and name calling that comes from familial love. The different types of friendships available to a single women in a small town. The greatest relationship of all is the one with her best friend, Colonel her beloved dog. I am not used to reading stories written in the first person, this was fun to go through the stories of her memory to see all of her most embarrassing moments and to go through her reasoning’s for all of her thoughts and actions. A bit predictable, but overall a really enjoyable lazy day read. But, if you like dogs and you like Colonel, even a little, you will need a Kleenex, or three.

Kristan Higgins amazes me yet again: I read this cover to cover in one sitting. Maggie and Malone make a very...interesting match. Sometimes I kinda felt sorry for Malone, Maggie has one big personality! I really love the way he handled her.And really, its about time Maggie falls for him instead of being a lovesick idiot over a priest! The dude was a major flirt though, he should probably tone that down.Between Maggie tripping all over herself around a man of God, then her crazy interactions with Malone...Kristan Higgins kept me laughing through this entire book. There was also one point when I actually cried a little, Maggie suffered a loss that made me really upset for her. My laughing and crying aside, I didn't feel quite as connected to this book as I have to a couple of Kristan's other books, but I definitely loved this one and will be re-reading it in the future.

A diner owner, with the help of nosy gossips and some divine intervention, meets her match in a strong but silent lobsterman who sweeps her off her feet. This was entertaining with plenty of humor. The dog added some fun to the story.

The heroine was such a doormat and brought public humiliation on herself. Still the story sucked me in hoping for a big turnaround that never really happened. I doubt this new relationship will last any longer than the others considering the way it started. Maggie has had some disastrous relationships but she keeps trying to find the right man.

Didn't have ANY dialogue between the main characters. I mean, really. You have to talk to each other once in a while. Other than that it was a good read.

3.5AudiobookExcellent narrationThe story had some great characters but I didn't get why the MC was such an idiot. She lacked common sense and just acted ridiculous in bits. I really liked the side characters, loved Malone he didn't play the drama game, didn't gossip or spend days talking about others. There was a lot of gossip in this small town which is expected but shouldn't this girl learn to shut it ? It was just her bits here and there that irked me taking 1 star off my rating.Warning pet death
