    Obviously translated from another language. Recommends canola oil which is typically avoided on a ketogenic since it is an industrial seed oil and highly processed with hexane.

    Not a clear or well-organized intro to keto. This book is poorly written (bad grammar and overall bad English), and the information is contradictory and incomplete. It reads like a bad instruction manual someone just google translated from Chinese. As for the actual information on the Keto diet, it's OKAY, but not great, and it is not consistent. For example, it says "clearly" a lot about things that are not actually obvious (or don't have evidence to support them), and in one part it says that peanuts should be avoided, but then it includes peanuts in the recommended meal plan.... Would not recommend this book on any level.

    I've read several keto books and while this one has some ok information, I think it also contradicts itself quite a bit. For example, in the book, the author mentions to avoid ham as it is usually prepared with sugar in the curing process. He also says that peanuts are legumes and will do nothing for you diet so avoid them. Then in his very first Day 1 meal plan, he has both ham and peanuts on the menu? The contradictions are confusing. Tell me how to succeed and then give me a menu for failure. Frustrating.

Chapter 1 What is the Diet About?

The Keto Diet, or the Ketogenic Diet as it is often referred to, is a special type of diet that can do more for your body if you follow it properly. This is designed to help you lose weight and fat within your body. It is particularly ideal for those who are overweight as well as people who have diabetes.

The purpose of the diet is to get the liver to produce more ketones. These are to be burned off within the body as energy.

Also known as a low carb high fat (or LCHF) diet, the Keto Diet will keep your body from producing more glucose or insulin than needed. The fact is your body will produce those two compounds whenever you eat something that has loads of carbs.

Glucose is typically used as an energy source above everything else in your body. Insulin will move that glucose in your body so it will start to use it. As a result, the fats that do come into your body will be stored and will not be used as the glucose is what is already being burned off.

This can become a real problem over time as your body will struggle to burn off fats after a while. This over-dependence on glucose is a huge part of weight gain. In fact, it may be tougher for you to burn off these fats on your own through most options. That's where the Keto Diet will come into play.

The Keto Diet is more than just an effective diet because it has fewer carbs. It is useful because it creates a state of ketosis in your body.

The purpose of ketosis is to give your body the support it needs in order to actually burn off fats. If you are able to achieve this process then you will burn off the fats that you are supposed to be losing in the first place.

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis occurs whenever the body consumes fewer carbs. This is where ketones are produced in the body. These ketones are produced after fats are broken down in the liver.

Ketones are produced at times when the body does not have the carbohydrates it wants in order to convert sugar into energy. This is also useful in the event that the body is unable to take care of its blood sugar as well as it is supposed to. This is a process that is especially helpful for those who have substantial issues with taking care of their fats and with burning them off.

What happens for the most part is that you will continue to consume a sensible amount of calories but you will limit the carbohydrates that you consume. As a result, you will be less likely to store fats. Your body will feel as though it is not getting the carbohydrates it wants and as a result these ketones are burned off for energy.

Think of this as if your body was utilizing the fats you were getting and consuming them as a means of relaxing your body.
