When a scheming marquess's daughter offers her one hundred pounds to publicly kiss a nobleman, a desperate Jessamin Wright agrees. She believes the money will save her failing bookstore and finally free her from her father's debts. But when Jess bursts into an aristocratic party and shocks the entire ton, she never expects to enjoy the outrageous embrace she shares with a grim viscount.

Lucius Crawford, Viscount Grimsby, has never met, or kissed, anyone like the beautiful suffragette who unsettles him with a single touch. He has always strived for control and avoided passion at all costs. Lucius is determined to protect his title and restore the estate he's unexpectedly inherited, but Jess's appearance in his life poses a threat to his plans and his heart. After a country house party brings them together once more, neither can resist temptation, and both find that one scandalous kiss just isn't enough.

A young working woman with nothing to lose, a grim aristocrat who just wants to be left alone, but is in desperate need of a rich bride, one snubbed debutante. Put them all together and you have one scandalous kiss. The power of that kiss changes everything.

With the aristocrat determined to do his duty, will they find their happily ever after? Well if they didn't, this wouldn't be much of a story.

Boring. Couldn't get through 100 pages. The guy seems interesting but completely avoidable.

Just re-read this one and I've decided that I must've liked it more for the story than the heat level.

Jessamin is offered 100 pounds by Kitty Adderley if Jess will publicly kiss Viscount Grimsby. Jess agrees so she can use the money towards her father's debts which are threatening the livelihood of her bookshop. The kiss turns out to cause a surprising surge of emotion for both parties. Unfortunately, Jess loses the respect of the bank that holds the lease to her bookshop and in turn, ends up losing the shop and her livelihood. Grimsby/Julius comes to her shop to see if he can help her but ends up leaving just after declaring that he "can't forget" their kiss.
Grimsby's aunt then comes to the shop and offers Jess a position as her paid companion. Jess accepts and the two remove to the country.
Aunt Augusta the plans a house party to welcome a potential bride for Julius. Everyone's hope is for Julius to marry this American heiress in order to save his crumbling estate. Julius's father/Augusta's brother seems to be suffering from either dementia or Alzheimer's and is prone to fits of rage. He refuses to allow Julius to use other means to save the estate such as selling some of the land. Kitty Adderley ends up at this party too and offers more than once to help Jess get back on her feet if she doesn't like where she is.
But Julius and Jess come realize that they're unlikely to be happy without each other. So Julius put's his foot down with his father, run the estate the way he chooses and proposes to Jess. They spend the night together believing that they've conquered all the obstacles between them.
Then May Sedgewick's father shows up and tries to demand that Julius marry May like he "promised" to. He threatens to sue for broach of contract. Jess hears some of this and she uncharacteristically and suddenly chickens out. She leaves to return to London without leaving a note for anyone. The issue with Mr. Sedgewick magically disappears and Julius arrives in London four days later and proposes properly to Jess. Jess who'd been able to talk about her fears to her best friend, has a change of heart and agrees to marry Julius.
