      Cousin, now woken up and brewing a strange mixture of water and tea leaves on the battered cooker, had time to think; and this is where his thoughts led. The shrill barking of Diva had finally reached the depths of his sleep, stopping of course, once he lay there wide awake. Playing host to his runaway cousin Em was bad enough, stretching the renowned Glaswegian hospitality to a sort of twanging point, but now it was Em and Diva. What had possessed him to trail round Easter house (a large housing estate awaiting the magic wand of development and enterprise) to view a puppy?
