    Nine months later, I could just about handle thinking about the Boolleys.

    ‘You were prophetic Wonka,’ I told him, as he was splayed out next to his best toy.

    ‘No, I’m not!’ he countered, giving his new toy a clatter. The ball span smoothly round the little plastic circuit until it slowly ran its course and stopped. Wonka clouted it again.

    ‘I said it was prophetic, not – ‘ oh anyway, to talk about the kittens, even now a good six months later would have me weeping, and have Wonka in post-traumatic stress disorder. He may even have invented it, and in doing so, we must await his solution. (Crouching on shelves in the Narnia cupboard? Perhaps not for a burly soldier home from the hill.)
