      A continuation of the futuristic story begun in The Choosing. Remko and Carrington continue to live outside the wall of Authority City while attempting to rescue as many people as possible. Inside the city, Damien Gold has risen to President and plans are undergoing to alter human emotions for a more compliant society. Overall, the story moves at an uneven pace and the ending becomes very philosophical and symbolic in ways that don't always seem to fit with the earlier narrative. Those who read the first volume will be invested in the characters but the narrative does become a bit preachy at the end

      This is the second book in the Seer series. The Choosing was more about Carrington Hale and this is more about her husband Remko Brant. Is Remko really the one to lead them in the revolution? He doesn't think so but Aaron and Carrington do. Remko must learn to surrender and let his Father lead him. This has a lot of twists and turns. You like people you really shouldn't in the end. I am so looking forward to the third book in this series coming this fall. I received a copy of this book fromTyndale for. Fair and honest opinion.

      I am beginning to like dystopian books more everyday. The latest book from Rachelle Dekker is at the top of list in this fast growing genre. She definitely knows how to draw a reader in with her unique style of writing. She gives us a world where there is a sense of fighting against darkness and overcoming fear. The action is at the top of the charts with twists that have you on the edge of your seat. Some of the characters from the first book in this series is back to deliver a powerful message of trusting God and being chosen to do something you thought you would never be able to do. What if you were called to do do something out of your comfort zone? The story takes readers on a journey that is vivid and creative. Remko seems to be the focus of this book and the character is well developed and delves into a world where nothing is what it seems. Fans of this exciting genre will not be disappointed as they read this book filled with encouragement, facing fears and a journey that seems like a roller coaster ride that leaves you wanting the book to not end. The author has a great talent and I look forward to more from her. Her uncanny ability to take a reader into another place and make them feel like they are part of the story is a talent that makes an author stand out. I received a copy of this book from The BookClub Network for an honest review.

      Rachelle Dekker's second novel in The Seer series, The Calling, is as powerful as the first! Of dystopian genre, the story grips the reader right from the beginning and is 'edge of the seat' to the end. In a futuristic world with authoritarian, egotistical leaders whose mission is progress but a progress that says "remove the idea of freedom and the soul altogether" and Seers who seek to change what they know to be wrong, The Calling is full of action and mystery, hope and despair. How does one deal with fear, fear that paralyzes and keeps one bound? Dekker shares Biblical truths in a story that generates profound probing of one's heart as to surrendering one's fears to the truth and knowing beyond all question the reality of one's true identity. The characters arouse the reader's emotions--you love them or you dislike them intensely. Families being torn apart, team members that are angry, fearful and have secrets that could betray and destroy their community--each bringing depth to the story and helping to show the reader the destructive force of fear. "Fear is real; we know this, but it only has the power we give to it." Fast-paced action from page one to the end, awesome suspense throughout and a faith-filled message, The Calling has it all. If you like futuristic novels, don't miss this series.Dekker adds a list of characters which helps to keep things straight and a list of discussion questions. With a final Seer Novel in the works, readers know the story doesn't end and anticipation is great!I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

      Fear. Fear from without: fear of persecution, fear of punishment, fear of retaliation. Fear from within: fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of letting others down, fear of letting yourself down. Fear. Debilitating, enslaving, imprisoning, defeating. Grace. Grace from the Father. Grace sometimes offered by others. Grace, something we rarely offer ourselves. Grace, once accepted: freeing, releasing, joy evoking, undeserved, a gift, the foundation of freedom. The Calling is a story of both fear and grace. It is a story of surrendering the things that fears are built upon in order to grasp the grace that is offered. It is a tale of forgetting and remembering, only to forget again. In the midst of life’s joys and turmoils, it is sometimes difficult to remember who and whose you are. The continuing story of Carrington and Remko that began with The Choosing, is extremely well written, and completely enthralling. Readers will need to have read the first book in this series in order to truly understand and appreciate this second book. An investment of time and money that will pay great dividends. You will emerge changed. Not many books or authors have such a significant impact One important bit of information for readers new to The Seer series, this series is of the dystopian genre. For those who are fans of this genre, you are in for a treat. For those who have never read a dystopian novel, this is a great place to start. For those who have previously tried this genre and found it less than appealing, this is the perfect opportunity to give it another chance.

In this work of fiction, which is continued from book one, The Authority is still controlling a small segment of the remaining population in Washington D. C. However, now there is a new leader of the group and he is a ruthless, demented man who will stop at nothing to capture whomever he views as a threat.The further one progresses in the story, the higher the tension, suspense and wonder at thinking what more the author has in store for her readers. The Seers keep trying to go and save those taken by force to be used for experimentation aimed at erasing memories. More than that though is the hope to erase any memory a person has of Aaron and the hope of freedom he represents.My heart at different parts of the story felt like it was coming out of my chest as danger was barreling down on a community that rebelled against The Authority who is seeking Aaron. Just when I thought I knew how the plot was going to go, wham! Rachelle Dekker throws a curve and definitely unexpected surprises that left me thinking, “I definitely didn’t see that coming!”To anyone who reads The Seer series it is quite evident that Rachelle is answering her call as a writer. While she is answering the call, I am sure she is depending on God to give her the story. When Jesus spoke, he used everyday imagery to give a glimpse into the realm of heaven, into Who He is and His purpose for coming. I guarantee you will love the books and appreciate the hard work put into crafting a story that speaks spiritual truth.
