Book Abstract
In A Matter of Character, Ronald Kessler digs deeply into the inner sanctum of the White House and George W. Bush’s personal life, trying to uncover the true character of America’s current president. Honesty, integrity and clarity of purpose are the qualities Kessler discovers while investigating the president, a leader who is so scrutinized – and so criticized – at home and around the world.
Kessler charges that most of what people think they know about Bush simply isn’t true and that these myths are driven mainly by biased reporting in the media. Through his extraordinary access to the administration and its key players, Kessler reveals how America’s first M.B.A. president negotiates challenges such as terrorism, the economy and education reform. He also interviews Secret Service agents, former presidential aides, career White House employees and some of Bush’s closet friends – individuals who know the George W. Bush that the public never sees. Kessler concludes that the pressures of the White House always expose the true character of any president and that the character of George W. Bush is one of vision, courage, patience, optimism, integrity, decisiveness,
