Achieving sound mis: Management needs to ensure that MIS systems are developed accordingto a sound methodology that encompasses the following phases: Appropriate analysis of system alternatives, approval points as thesystem is developed or acquired, and task organization. Program development and negotiation of contracts with equipment andsoftware vendors.

Development of user instructions, training, and testing of the system. Installation and maintenance of the system.Management should also consider use of "project managementtechniques" tomonitor progress as the MIS system is being developed. Internal controlsmust be woven into the processes and periodically reviewed by auditors.Management also should ensure that managers and staff receive initialandongoing training in MIS.In addition, user manuals should be available andprovide the following information: A brief description of the application or system. Input instructions, including collection points and times to sendupdated information. Balancing and reconciliation procedures. A complete listing of output reports, including

samples.Depending on the size and complexity of its MIS system, an institution mayneed to use different manuals for different users such as first-level users, unit mgr and progrmmrs.

It consists of following sub systems: Executive Support Systems (ESS) Management Information Systems (MIS) Decision Support Systems (DSS) Knowledge Work Systems (KWS) Office Automation Systems (OAS) Transaction Processing Systems (TPS)

Management information system Relationship of MIS with TPS: MIS reports and summarizes the organizations basic operations and these reports comefrom the basic transition processing systems. In case of our organization the TPSs of ATM Cards, Payroll and Customer identification etc. provide the basic information aboutthe organizations activities. These activities are then summarized in the form of reportsfor the manager so that they can check whether the firm is working properly or not. If there are some flaws then they take control measures to fix those flaws.
