North East Region Dominated Brazil Wind Power Industry Landscape in 2011: KuicK Research

Commercialization of large number of under construction wind power projects in northeast region to drive wind power installed capacity.

According to a recent research report Brazil Wind Power Market Analysis published by KuicK Research, northeast side of Brazil dominated the wind powers installed capacity during 2011. The region accounted for more than 800 MW of power, which was more than 70% of the total wind power installed capacity in Brazil. The region has enough wind power resources to dominate the Brazil wind power industry landscape in coming years.

The North East region promises the feasible wind power potential of 75 GW for wind speed more than 7 m/s. The maximum wind power potential for the northeast region of Brazil is realized at a wind speed of 6 m/s at 490.21 GW and 649,50 TWh per annum. Majority of the private wind power developers have already set up or planning to set up wind power farms in this region. Close to 50 wind power projects are already in development phase in North East region with overall capacity of more than 1 GW. Most of these upcoming projects are concentrated in state of Bahia and Rio Grande do Norte.

The overall future outlook for the wind power sector seems to be positive as large number of domestic and international wind farm developers will continue to invest in Brazil in coming years. The wind power installed capacity is anticipated to rise at rapid rate till 2014 due to commercialization of wind power projects auctioned in recent years. The cumulative installed capacity is anticipated to surpass 2 GW in 2012.

The research report Brazil Wind Power Market Analysis provides detailed information on cumulative installed capacity, installed capacity by region and state, operational and under construction wind farms in various states of Brazil, onshore and offshore wind resources by region at variable wind speed, changing wind power sector dynamics along with regulatory and competitive landscape.
