Course Objectives: This course is dedicated to providing students with the historical background knowledge, and skills necessary to be informed citizens in an increasingly global society. Class activities are designed to encourage critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication of ideas. The students will be encouraged to participate in class discussions/ debates to help foster an environment of inquiry and academic excellence. Course Units: First Semester: 1. Sources of Democratic Tradition 2. Enlightenment 3. The French Revolution 4. Nationalist Revolutions 5. The Industrial Revolution Second Semester: 6. New Imperialism 7. World War I/ Russian Rev. 8. The Rise of Totalitarianism 9. World War II 10. The Cold War

Required Materials: Students must come to class prepared with the following at all times: 1. Writing utensils: pen, pencil and eraser 2. 3 Ring Binder: A section specifically for World History or a binder specifically for World History is necessary. The binder should also contain paper at all times. 3. Homework/ Classwork: any work that has been completed for that unit must be brought to class everyday. Grading: Grades are based on an accumulation of total points given from tests/quizzes, assignments, classroom activities, projects and the Midterm and Final exams. Tests/ Quizzes Homework/ Classwork: Projects: Midterm/ Final: 40% 30% 10% 20% 100% - 90% = A 89% - 80% = B 79% - 70% = C 69% - 60% = D 59% - 50% = F

Homework/ Classwork: Homework is due the day after being assigned unless specifically noted. All homework must be completed on time and will receive a stamp on its due date to indicate it is on time. Homework that is not done on time will not receive a stamp and will not get full credit. Any assignment that is incomplete or late will receive half (50%) credit. The instructor will collect a packet the day of each unit exam to record points for homework and classwork. It is imperative that the student finish all assignments and bring all assignments to class each day. Projects: Various long term assignments will be given throughout the year. These projects are to extend the normal instruction and include technology based tasks. Rules: All students are expected to act like young adults and follow the school rules from the Parent/Student Handbook. Students will be expected to act responsibly and respectfully. If a student veers from common sense they will receive: 1. Warning/ Private Conference 2. Detention/ Call Home 3. Parent Conference/ Referral Make up Policy: If you have an excused absence, you will have twice as many days to complete missed assignments as you were absent. All missed exams must be rescheduled with the instructor to be taken either before or after school within one week upon your return. If not, a score of 0 will be given. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule a make up exam. No assignments and tests may be made up without an excused absence.
