HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN FLOOR POLISH.

Floor polish can be made at home or in a group for your own use. It is made by dissolving melted wax from candles in kerosene. You need the following items: - 1 litre Kerosene (paraffin). - 3 candles or a piece of beeswax. - A stove or cooking fire. - A pan. - Matches. - A suitable container - like a tin, because a plastic container would melt, if the polish is not cooled well. - A cooking stick. REAP Teaching Leaflet # 17 1. Light your fire or stove. 2. Put the pan on the stove and leave it for two minutes to warm up. 3. Break the three (3) medium candles into pieces and remove the wicks, then drop them into the pan and leave them to melt for five minutes. If using beeswax, use a piece about the size of your fist. 4. Stir with the cooking stick to help them melt properly. 5. After it has melted remove the candle wax from the fire. 6. While still off the fire add about 1 litre of kerosene. 7. Keep stirring as it continues to cool. 8. After five minutes pour your mixture into a container. 9. Remove the mixture to a cool place and leave it to settle for five minutes and it will be ready for use. It can be cooled faster by sitting the container in cold water. USING THE FLOOR POLISH When the polish has settled it can be used for a cleaning a cement floor. Make sure the floor is clean and dry. Take a dry cloth and pick up some polish on the cloth. Rub this on the floor in a circular motion. Spread the polish evenly over the floor, so that it is not thick. Use a clean dry cloth to shine and give a good finish. The polish is also good for your furniture. Try it out.
