Input Devices

1. Never get your keyboard wet. Spilled liquids are likely to short out the electronics. Also, give the keyboard a good cleaning every few months. Turn off the PCs power, unplug the keyboard, and turn it over to shake out dust and dirt (or use a can of compressed air to blow between individual keys). 2. If your mouse seems to have lost its way, the first thing to do is give it a good cleaning: 3. Clean the scanner glass periodically with a glass cleaner. 4. To keep your microphone clean and fresh in between performances and uses you can wipe the grille down with a soft cloth slightly moistened with a bacteria killing mouthwash. Always dry your microphone grille with a soft cloth before storing it and avoid touching the grille itself with your hands as body oils can be transferred and add to soil build-up. 5. Never throw, slam or subject your headset to blunt force, which can damage the internal components. Store your headset in a safe place when not in use; a common cause of breakage is when the band connecting the headphones snaps as the result of being left in a careless location, such as on the floor. Avoid spilling liquid on your headset, as fluid can short-circuit the device.

Storage Devices

1. Eject the drive properly. On a PC, right-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon at the bottom of your screen and click to eject the drive. On a Macintosh computer, simply drag the icon into the trash can to eject. 2. Compact disc should be stored in their containers when not in use, and should not be left in drives unnecessarily, as this can cause both heat and mechanical damage. 3. Floppy disc should not be allowed to come into contact with liquids, dust, or smoke, and should not be exposed to either extreme heat or direct sunlight. 4. Physical impact can be prevented by handling the hard disk carefully when installing/ re-installing. When installing the hard disk care should be taken to see that it sits perfectly horizontal and that it does not vibrate or shake once the computer is started 5. Store your MP3 player in a waterproof bag or case if you will be using it around water such as at the pool or while boating.

Output Devices

1. Do not place any objects on top of the monitor which could block the ventilation holes. 2. Position the printer on a sturdy and level surface. Allow sufficient space around the printer for air flow. 3. You should regularly clean your speakers out with an anti-static cloth. Rub the dust and dirt away from the surface and also the little nooks and crannies in between. 4. Avoid using your projector in a smoky environment. This can cause damage to the optics of the unit and can void your warranty. Avoid using your projector in a smoky environment. This can cause damage to the optics of the unit and can void your warranty. 5. Computer headsets contain fragile electronic components, so cleaning them gently is important. Never use harsh chemicals to clean them, and always use a dry cloth, not paper towel. If the headset has removable foam pads, remove them to expose the mic and earpieces. Clean off any debris with a dry cloth. The foam pads can be cleaned and sterilized with water and a mild detergent. Always dry the pads completely before putting them back on. Never use a wet cloth on the earpieces or microphone itself.
