LATHE MACHINE

OBJECTIVE: In this lathe machine project, we as a student to take knowledge to understand how to work or use the lathe machine with correctly. The Lathe is one of the most important machines in any workshop. Its main objective is to remove material from outside by rotating the work against a cutting tool. Though a lathe is used to produce cylindrical work, yet it may also be used for many other purposes such as drilling, threading, grinding, milling etc.

EQUIPMENT: 1. Lathe machine

2. Vernier caliper

3. Adjustable spanner

4. Spanner

5. Chuck

6. T handle tap wren

7. L spanner

8. Grinding machine

9. To center drill a hole before drilling , To hole is drilled undersized ready for reaming

SAFETY AND HEALTH: In this project, we must: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Wear PPE example : safety shoes and jacket . Do not make a joke with friend when project was start . Do not start any work without permission. Always think about safety when project was start. Clean the machine when finish our project. Always check power supply when not use the machine.

7. Do not change gears while the lathe is running. 8. Never walk away from a lathe when it is operating. 9. When the work is complete, shut of power and clean the machine. THEORY: During work on this project , before starting the work we need carry out with safety about all surrounding machine in workshop. Beside there , always beware many kind of machine and tool . for example, when using grinding machine to grind the material tool bit. Furthermore, lathe also is a machine tool which spins a block of material to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, boring, drilling, or deformation with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation.

PROCEDURE: 1. By using saw cut a workpiece that needed. The length of the workpiece is 64mm.

2. Hold the workpiece in the chuck than straight turning the workpiece along 15mm to get 25mm.

3. Turn to middle of workpiece . Then, straight turning the workpiece along 10mm to get 20mm.

4. Turn over workpiece to another side. Using the smallest drill shanks mark the center point of the workpiece before drilling.

5. Using the 10.5mm drill shank, drill the workpiece until it get the through to the other surface.

6. At the workpiece in length 28mm, drill the surface using the 20mm drill shank.

7. After drilling 20mm hole, make some finishing at the end of 20mm hole using cutting tool.

8. After drilling 20mm hole, make some finishing at the end of 20mm hole using cutting tool.

9. Lastly cleaning the workpiece and polishing it to prevent it rusty.

RESULT OF DRAWING :

DISCUSSION: 1. Why it very important to practice safety procedure during workshop practice? Discuss. Answer- because of important to practice safety procedure : 1. To prevent accident during a work. 2. Always take reasonable care before starting the work. 3. Make us more secure when doing a work in workshop.

2. Boring is the most difficult task in this project. List main precaution should be taken so that the good boring pattern is obtain . Answer- list of precaution: 1. Do not touch the drill when drilling was start. 2. Put some oil on the workpiece and drilling tool. 3. Do not force the the drill . 4. Avoid from waste workpiece.

3. Study case of sample given , describe the error defects and how to overcome them. Base on this project , many error made on workpiece because negligence and lack of experience . from this case , need to take a knowledge before starting a work.

CONCLUSION: After 4 week in machinering workshop, the project is done. However, I get a new skill to get the accurate in measure clean and tidy work. We should know how to control the machine. And we always should have discipline and responsible in our work. If we dont have the discipline and responsible in this work maybe we will get an injured or an accident.
