We called him the Magic Man back then.
Not because he did card tricks - though he

they were engaged.
"That's 355 winning trades in a row!"
He sounded pretty pleased. "The trick

Commodity trading just wasn't that easy.
"It can't be fun if you're under the gun!"
Everybody had losses in the markets,
especially in commodities. "What you

would have been easy to blow off his crazy-

Introduction
you lucky? Why, of course you are! How
would this book have found its way into
ur hands? As a lucky person, you attract
ople, circumstances, and resources to you
hat make your dreams come true!
Now I don't think I really need to prove to
you how lucky you are-one small example
hould suffice. It's the time you began
hopping for that special make of automobile.
What happened? You began to see that car
verywhere! There it was parked at the mall;
then you saw it on the freeway, and again
It was passing you on that winding country
road. Why, it was like that model and make
were actually talking to you.
There you were in a sea of cars, yet only one
was calling you. That was the one you made
a decision to want. Desires are magnets of
circumstance. There is a universal law that
states, "What you want wants you and is
rushing to meet you!" Put another way, what
you want is what you notice.
The Awesome Science of Luck
Since you can't hit a target you can't see,
noticing brings you closer to your objectives
by revealing connections to opportunities.
The mental target begins to come into focus.
Unlucky people never seem to be able to
connect the dots. They are never curious
about the countless numbers of options that
present themselves each day. However,
lucky people, as they notice the flow of
options, are awed at such serendipity.
All the lucky people I know are confident,
curious, and observant. They also have
a strong sense of serendipity-the
phenomenon of finding valuable things they
weren't conscious of seeking. Lucky people
attract good fortune wherever they go. In
fact, they expect it! You could say that luck is
the art of opportunity.
Is luck simply an art or knack of successful
living, or is there actually a law that forms an
underpinning? If it could be proven that there
is an actual law of luck, those working within
its framework would always win their hearts'
desires.
The art and science of luck will reveal to
you the behavioral traits of lucky people.
These traits, when truly made your own,

you always work within the framework of the

not some of the time, but all of the time.

CHAPTER ONE
What You See Is
What You Get
ne of the founding fathers of modern
hysics was the highly acclaimed Niels
hr. In his study of subatomic events,
he discovered that even unrelated events
ntained a hidden interconnectedness. He
nd other physicists concluded that when an
lectron wasn't being observed, it ceased
being a particle and was always a wave.
Another physicist, Nick Herbert, indicated
that everything we look at turns to matter.
So, if subatomic particles don't exist
until they are observed, what about your
everyday waking reality? Do you have the
power to alter it by seeing it differently?
Could it be that you create your own luck by
seeing yourself living a' charmed life?
Imagine our world, filled with six billion
people as quanta (that's elemental units
of energy). These energy units experience
both attraction and repulsion. They form
clusters and hubs in which information is
The Awesome Science of Luck
shared and influences are created. These
invisible informational networks are like a
massive net covering our planet. According
to Emanuel Rosen in his bestselling book
The Anatomy of Buzz, we are linked by a
chain of no more than six other people to
every network of people on the planet. In
other words, you know someone who knows
someone who can get a personal message
to anyone on earth.
However, aocording to quantum physics,
since all matter, including humans, is made
up of quanta, the way you see things
becomes the nonverbal message bearer.
Yes indeed-what you want wants you and
is rushing to meet you! What you deeply
desire and earnestly aspire toward is what
you truly see. What you see is what you get.
You have the innate ability to influence and
attract anything your heart desires. People
who know what they want are more "lucky"
than people who don't. However, bad luck is
the very same process. The difference is the
window of expectation through which one
chooses to look at life.
Lucky people see events and circumstances
as fortuitous. Unlucky people see events

ci rcumstances as nothing special. Every
y, All day long, a parade of opportunities
D.sses by, unnoticed by the one who
peri ences bad luck. Lucky people see
very thing as significant. Unlucky people

physicist Nick Herbert is correct, then we
tually do create our reality. What you see
what you get! The difference between
ood luck and bad luck is simply how you
hoose to see things. How you actually see
things is revealed by what you say about
yourself to others, as well as what you
ecretly think of yourself in private.
The truth is, you only reallY,see what you
want or don't want to happen to you. You
are drawn toward your greatest hopes and
toward your greatest fears. The side with the
greatest attraction force is the determining
factor in creating your reality.
This is why people who have no clear-cut
goals or aspirations tend to energize and
thus magnetize their fears. By creating
negative expectations, they create a
subconscious situation in which their choices
lead to bad luck. Lucky people are so
focused on their strong desires and goals
3
The Awesome Science of Luck
that they simply overshadow their fears and
misgivings.
Your subconscious mind is like an inner
compass leading you to choose what you
really want. Your subconscious also has a
timing mechanism that always allows you
to be at the right place at the right time.
For example, if you have an early morning
appointment, you set your clock to alert you
when it's time to wake up. However, you
wake up on Yol:Jr own five minutes before the
alarm is set to go off. How did you do that?
Well, the same process takes place with
good luck and bad luck. Some people
always miss catching their plane, the
last sale item at the store, the property
they wanted to buy, or the employment
opportunity that was just magically snatched
up by someone else waiting in the wings.
You've gotten the money from the bank and
you race off to the car dealership to buy that
vehicle you had your heart set on, only to be
told that they just sold it! How is it that some
people's timing is always off while other
people are always in the right place at the
right time?
4
What You See Is What You Get
II , let's face it, some of us are lucky and
rs aren't! However, all lucky people and
II unlucky people have the same things in
mrnon. Lucky people see themselves as
lucky. Unlucky people see themselves as
nlucky, or say they don't believe in luck.
In my observations of people who say they
on't believe in luck, some misunderstand
the term "luck" to mean events without
uses. This is not what I mean. Luck can
be explained by science; however, very
lucky people make it an art form. Generally,
from my observations, people who don't
believe in luck generally fare only slightly
better than people who consider themselves
unlucky. The most prosperous group has
consistently been those who say, "Yes! I'm a
very lucky person!"
Science has studied the effect of
consciousness on the subatomic world
and has concluded that consciousness
is a subtle form of matter. Space is not
empty, but it is a unique type of matter that
is affected by thoughts. Physicists believe
our brains mathematically construct our ,
experiences of life from the way we interpret
the frequencies in which we live, breathe,
and move. If you consider your thoughts as
5
The Awesome Science of Luck
pictures in your mind, then you can suddenly
see-there's that word again-what you see
is what you get!
Let's explore another simple example of this.
At my post office, there is a beautiful shade
tree at the edge of the parking area. Under
the tree, lovely flowers are usually in bloom.
However, there is inadequate parking during
peak times, and usually most of the parking
spots are taken, including my favorite spot in
front of the tree.
The strange part of this is that I always see
that spot vacant! Even when I drive into
the lot and someone else is in the spot,
suddenly their backup lights come on and
they back out, freeing up my favorite spot.
How many times have you visualized having
a parking spot by the front door on a rainy
day, and like magic-or, as luck would have
it-there it is?
Remember, any picture you hold in your
conscious mind consistently must be acted
upon by your superconscious mind. If the
science of quantum physics is correct in
asserting that subatomic particles don't
exist until they are observed and that you
and I create our own realities, then we
6
What You See Is What You Get
uld always get the parking spots of our
osing. Of course, the moment you doubt
process, that thought is also realized
y your superconscious mind, proving the
rrectness of the doubt. Am I making
nse?
Ince you and I can't fall out of the universe,
what we can't see should make us feel
omfortable. By that, I mean that when
ubatomic particles don't exist, they actually
do. That is, they simply enfold themselves
back into a deeper order from which they
originated. In the words of physics, they are
enfolded back into the implicate order of
the universe-until our thought processes
resurrect them and thus manipulate the
fabric of our physical world.
If consciousness is a subtle form of matter
and the images we hold in our conscious
minds command the superconscious mind
to act, it's no wonder that a 'parking spot is
available right by the front door. What you
see is what you get.
It's pretty much like visualizing a certain
car you'd like to purchase, then seeing
that make and model everywhere. Years
ago, I was working on a construction site
7
The Awesome Science of Luck
and the workers were talking about cars.
Offering my opinion, I said that I thought the
classiest car on the road was the Cadillac
Eldorado convertible. Just then, the owner
of the construction company drove up in a
new Cadillac Eldorado convertible. It sort of
made my mouth water; that was all I could
do at the time-that and dream.
However, the laws of the universe being
what they are, I soon saw my life change
dramatically. Suddenly, I had not one but
two new Cadillac Eldorado convertibles! I
explain more about this in my course called
"Money Magic." Listen, if a poor construction
worker can suddenly reverse his fortune,
what do you think you can do? By the way, it
felt pretty good driving along the beach past
the Palm Beach mansions with the top down
and the ocean breeze blowing in my hair.
Much better than breathing dust and fumes
on a construction site, don't you agree?
What is this thing we call "luck"? Here's
another example for you to ponder. Years
later, I decided to get a new white Cadillac
Fleetwood. I was enjoying my sunbathing
when I suddenly saw the car in my minds
eye.
8
What You See Is What You Get
ng up to the dealership, however, I
't see a single white Fleetwood. How
I have been so wrong when the
Ise and vision were so strong? I asked
alesman if they had a car like that, and
aid, "Yes, it was a special order and
're just now washing it."
hey drove it up in front of the showroom
nd he asked if I'd like to test-drive it. I said,
"No, I've already driven it-in my mind. I'll
take it."
He was stunned. After the usual posturing,
we decided on the right price. "How do you
want to pay for this?" he asked.
I stunned him again, saying, "Why, I' ll
just write you a check in full." He was
speechless. I added, "Oh, it's just part of my
winnings in the stock market! I must just be
lucky. "
You're probably thinking I lucked into some
big inheritance or somebody gave me a
bunch of money. No! I lucked into the art
and science of luck. You too will be able to
magically make yourse!f very, very lucky as
you turn these pages and discover luck's
secrets.
9
The Awesome Science of Luck
Remember, the pictures and images you
hold persistently in your conscious mind's
eye will activate your superconscious mind.
It is your superconscious mind that is a
subtle form of matter and that is able to alter
the fabric of your physical world. You shape
your destiny with the pictures you hold in
your mind and the desires you treasure in
your heart. What you see is what you get.
Interestingly, one problem physicists have
when studying atomic systems is that the
only way of seeing into a system is using
photons of light. When light hits the atom,
the photons move the elements around.
Attempting to predict their arrangement is
very difficult due to the various possible
effects of observation. If observation is
known to affect and disturb atoms, what
about everything composed of atoms? Does
the way a lucky person sees things affect
where the ball will land as the roulette wheel
is turned? Or how about when dice are
rolled? Of course, we know the outcomes
are not always as or do we?
Perhaps our belief in inconsistency is the
reason for it.
You've most likely heard the expression,
"When you're hot, you're hot. When you're
10
What You See Is What You Get
u're not. " When people are winning,
nd to continue winning-that is, until
li ef in odds reasserts its presence,
whi ch time they become cold again. But
t what is this "hot" state and how do you
Intain it? Actually, it's the art of luck,
hlch is what this book is about.
Most people simply bet the odds-the
ost likely outcome. But how can you
redict the movement of disturbed atoms
within a structure that are being affected
by other elements? Ah, now, enter Werner
Heisenberg and his Uncertainty Principle.
The Uncertainty Principle replaced the
law of causality of Newtonian physics and
turned classical physics on its head. You'll
probably recall reading about my staunch
belief in cause and effect a few pages back.
In Heisenberg's principle, the causes and
effects are uncertain.
Were the elements inside an atom randomly
affected by a photon of light, or was there
a law of causality working amidst chaos?
At Boeing in 1969, a brilliant physicist
named Helmut Schmidt created a digital
random number generator. His research
demonstrated (in the words of Qi Gong
master Roger Jahnke) "that mind or
11
The Awesome Science of Luck
consciousness influences the chance
process in nature so that an outcome can
reflect intention."
So, then, can you be consistently correct
despite the odds being against you? Yes!
It is called the Monte Carlo effect. You will
continue to win until you no longer believe
you should. I personally experienced this
trading commodities-that's another way of
saying gambling, since 85% of the players
lose all of their money. How did I do? 355
winning trades in a row. Did I have to give
back some of the money? Yes. The point
is, however, when you're hot, you're hot.
That's the Monte Carlo effect at work.
Note: The Monte Carlo effect is much more
mathematically complex than my simplistic
presentation. Nonetheless, when you are
winning, you tend to continue to win despite
the odds.
Consider, each throw of the dice is a
separate event, no matter how many times
seven has come up. The odds are exactly
the same for each individual throw of the
dice as they were for the previous throw. Yet,
we consider the odds and doubt. We literally
see the event as different, although nothing
has changed.

Numerous studies of very sensitive
Individuals have revealed that their bodies
mitted high levels of electromagnetic
nergy and infrared emissions. Dr. William
Iller of Stanford University states, "The
human body is not just a chemical and
lectrical machine, the human body is a
light machine." What is it that excites an
atom? It is an emitted photon. If we are
light machines, as Dr. Tiller suggests, then
we possess the ability to alter matter and
circumstance.
Therefore, the more light you can emit,
the more successful you will become.
The smallest measurement of the energy
contained in ultraviolet light is one electron
volt. These are described as joules. Humans
put out around 10 joules per second. As you
13
The Awesome Science of Luck
and I increase the power of our intention
and consciousness, we build a lens through
which we can focus and concentrate our
photons of ultraviolet light upon objects and
events and influence their outcome.
Let's go back to the subject of odds. Why is
it that the horses that win at the track have
the best odds of doing so? Well, that's not
always an absolute. A few years ago, I was
watching the Kentucky Derby, and the last
horse to get into the chute for the start of the
race wasn't cooperating at all. He wasn't a
favorite and the odds placed him as a long
shot. Nevertheless, the horse seemed to
exude a special energy, so much that I said
excitedly, "That horse just won!" And he
did! He became an all-time record money-
winning long shot.
So, now, why do the odds favorites usually
win? First, they have to have a proven
track record and an ability to win. However,
Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle may
also be at work with a long shot. The odds
favorite has the most money bet on it, and
more people's intention and focus are at
work; the influence of the crowd's collective
consciousness is another factor. Could it
be that if a million people mentally saw the

15
CHAPTER TWO
Gut Instinct
you ever met someone who caused
to feel uncomfortable? You mayor may
recall your physical posture, especially
t you did with your hands and arms.
ut I'll bet you crossed your arms, or if you
d a pocketbook, you held it over your
lar plexus. Most people will automatically
rform such gestures when faced with
Iscomfort.
This is simply your gut instinct speaking.
Your abdominal region was your first
connection or safety valve to life. Thus,
even now, anything that you perceive on a
subconscious level as potentially hazardous
(emotionally or physically) will cause you
to protect your abdominal area. It's called
protecting your feeler.
A number of years ago, I read a book by
Dr. Michael D. Gershon, M.D., titled The
Second Brain: The Scientific Basis of Gut
Instinct. It gave me a new and awesome
appreciation for how a separate nervous
system or second brain operates. It is now
The A wesome Science of Luck
an established scientific fact that we have
a second brain that operates independently
from the brain between our ears; I believe
we can greatly benefit from what it is saying
to us.
While there are a number of nerve ganglia
or plexuses in the abdominal region,
you are most likely familiar with the solar
plexus. That's right, solar, as in sunlight
and photons that alter atomic structure.
This is why certain types of music and color
combinations cause gut-level reactions. The
smallest oscillation of a sound wave to signal
the brain is called a phonon. A phonon is the
smallest particle of energy in a sound wave,
just like a photon is the smallest particle of
energy in a light wave.
The way a particle or wave moves is
determined by the way quantum fields
interact with each other. Remember, light,
like sound, is made by oscillations of
electrical and magnetic fields. When they
reach the body, signals are sent to the brain,
and how we interpret these signals produces
certain physiological messages. If you can
consciously sort these messages from
mental noise, memories, and imagination,
18
Gut Instinct
II discover a strange physiological
.etlon known as a "hunch" or "gut instinct."
person we meet radiates a quantum
that is oscillating at a certain frequency.
same fixed frequency, in the case of
ns, also initiates the production of
.wIIlors, just as photons, the smallest particles
light, also create sound. As an example,
note of middle C produces the color red.
ould that be why "red necks" tend to love
untry and western music, which is most
ften played in the key of C? Come to think
f it I think the color may have even stuck to
my neck.
If we are light machines giving off certain
photonic messages, what does our gut say
to us when we receive such information?
Our guts quickly determine threats and
separate them from opportunities to be acted
upon. Listening to your gut is a very wise
thing to do. If you become conscious of how
people and things feel to you, you'll have an
easier time identifying intuitive impressions.
Your ability to identify and act on intuitive
impressions is called "luck."
Bear in mind that "cat gut" has been long
used for the strings of musical instruments.
19
The Awesome Science of Luck
You probably already know how resilient
that material is. Consider that it is with
your gut that you are able to tune in to the
vibrations of the invisible world. It allows you
to pay closer attention to your psychological
reactions to people and events around you.
Your gut brain differs from your cerebellum
and cerebrum in that they have the gray
matter on the outside and the white matter
on the inside. That's why when we operate
from the head, we think first and feel second.
However, with your gut, the white matter is
on the outside and the gray matter is within,
so that you feel first and think second. That's
why it's called a gut instinct.
This is actually a perfect balance of two
brains acting as one. The rational, objective
faculty that incorporates sense perception
allows !-IS to unerringly make use of our gut
instincts for the greater good. That's luck!
The gut informs us of an opportunity or
danger and the rational mind allows us to
make the most beneficial decision. Again,
that's what you would call being lucky.
Once, while I was working as an ironworker,
my gut began to speak to me. There were
three of us sitting on a steel beam bolting
20
Gut Instinct
column. The youngest man, an
tice, got up to go get some more
from a bolt keg sitting next to an
r shaft that already had metal
on it. As he started to walk the beam
the bolt keg, I yelled at him rather
aracteristically, "Get over here! Sit down
hold on! Right now!" Just as he sat
, the entire structure blew up. I mean,
re were iron stairways flying in the air and
Isting into double helixes like DNA. What
tal siding there was on the powerhouse
was blown off by the blast; the windows
f stores and homes in the nearby town
were even blown out. The new 900-foot-tall
mokestack swayed like a reed in the wind.
Luckily, the three of us were unscathed
through it all, except for some hearing loss.
What had happened and how did my gut
know to tell me? Doing very dangerous
work like that makes you acutely aware and
observant, but even the things you don't see
are still picked up by your gut instinct. The
cause of the explosion was that acetylene
gas had leaked into and filled the enclosed
elevator shaft, and a spark from a man
welding on the other side of the structure
blew into the top of the shaft. It blew tDe
building apart like a giant firecracker.
21
The Awesome Science of Luck
As an example, every atomic element is
distinguished by an atomic number. Helium
is element #2: it has two protons in its
nucleus. Oxygen, element #8, has eight
protons, eight neutrons, and eight electrons.
If you want to change one element into
another, you have to change the number of
protons in the nucleus. Again, according to
quantum physics, observing atomic structure
requires light. When a photon invades
atomic particles, they become waves that
are said to behave unpredictably. Despite a
comprehensive understanding, science is
still able to get workable feedback; however,
with all their understanding they have yet to
accomplish the alchemists' dream of turning
lead into gold.
Lead, element #82, simply has to have three
protons removed from its nucleus to produce
gold, element #79. Every element gives off a
vibration. That vibration is received as a gut-
level reaction. When the oscillation registers
on the second brain, an electrical bolt of
intelligence or intuition is felt. Computer-like
computations coupled with action take place
instantly.
The human mind doesn't miss a thing. Our
superconscious has already run all the

that we forget we already know. Too

ur mind is like a sponge that soaks
everything. To keep us from being
verwhelmed, we have a reticular activating
ystem. The RAS blocks out sensory
Istractions. However, on a subconscious
level, we still record al l those stimuli. That's
why, under hypnosis, you can recall names,
faces, and information from your childhood
unerringly.
Then why can't we read and interpret
the present? We can, provided we train
ourselves to do so. If you are trained to
interpret the vibrations your gut picks up,
you're very lucky. In the words of that young
apprentice ironworker, "You saved my life!
You saved my life! What luck! We're so lucky
to be alive!"

CHAPTER THREE
erceptive Abilities
Solve Problems
you're psychic and have problems, just
w psychic are you? Naturally, we all
row in installments. We have both natural
rceptions and trained perceptions.
However, as with gifted athletes, natural
propensity or talent doesn't eliminate the
need for training. Even an untalented athlete
who trains very hard can beat an athlete
who, despite natural talent, refuses to train.
Bear in mind that the drive is the talent!
You can train yourself to spot opportunities.
People who avail themselves of a beneficial
opportunity are always deemed lucky by
others. In fact, I'm always astounded by
how some people appear to be blind to
opportunity. Take two people walking down
the street. One person sees a five-dollar
bill lying on the sidewalk; the other person
blindly walks right past it. What was the
defining quality that allowed one person
to be lucky and the other person to miss?
Perception.
I ne A WeSOHle ~ C ; I t : t I l C ; t : t VI L.UC;/1
The actual difference between the two
people is not as much in the ability to see
as it is in expectation. Lucky people expect
fortuitous events to take place. Don't you
think that your perceptive ability will be
heightened if you expect to be lucky? Yes,
your powers of observation will be keener.
Remember, observation is heightened by
expectation.
Years ago, when I was living in a beachfront
condo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a new
acquaintance came over to talk to me about
the creative visualization workshops I was
conducting. I suggested that he walk down
the beach with my wife and me. As we
walked along the shoreline, every few yards
or so I'd pick up a quarter and hand it to my
wife. My acquaintance watched me, and
finally, in frustration, he burst out with, "Hey,
man, where you getting all those quarters?"
From then on, it became my trademark.
Once, I was coming out of a restaurant with
my new friend and he teased me about
my luck with quarters, asking why there
weren't any on the sidewalk. I replied,
"Because you're standing on one!" The
only difference between us was that I had
a trained expectation for luck. My friend

coming a good observer will develop
nd heighten your psychic abilities. You'll
become more sensitive to the impressions
you receive from ordinary stimuli. Only then
will you be able to tell the difference between
mental noise and what the things you "see"
are really telling you. Like I said, perceptual
abilities solve problems.
Once, canoeing in northern Quebec, I ended
up in a very dangerous situation. I was
negotiating whitewater rapids as the sun
was setting. The cliff walls along the river
prevented any exit. Soon, it was dark. Alii
could hear was the roar of whitewater. While
my auditory perceptions prevented me from
detecting changes in the tenor of the roar,
my intuitive perception was picking up a
dramatic change of tone, and I felt a sudden
27
The Awesome Science of Luck
shudder, like an electric current going up my
spine. I had to stop.
I wedged the canoe into some large
boulders in the middle of the river, and after
securing the canoe with rope, I settled in for
a long, cold night. The next morning, as the
golden rays of light played with the rising
mist, I devised a plan to escape the canyon.
I knew the river would not be as dangerous
in daylight, but my intuition was telling me
something else. Finally, I was able to reach
the base of the canyon wall and climb onto
a tiny outcropping of rocks. I spent the
morning climbing 'up the cliff face. Once I
reached the top, I pulled the canoe up after
me.
I must have looked ridiculous standing there
with my canoe and gear, but from my new
vantage point, I saw something that stopped
me in my tracks. There was an aD-foot
waterfall right around the bend from where I
had spent the night. Yes indeed, perceptive
abilities solve problems!
At the spot where I put my canoe into the
river again, the water was much calmer
and more reflective. I too was much calmer
and more reflective. That day, I realized
28

t we can hear beyond hearing and see
yond seeing if we spend time training our
rceptions. Soon, our perceptions train us.
he way our perceptions train us is in the
edback loop we create by increasing
our observation skills. You'll develop a
heightened awareness of any changes
In your normal emotional state. Psychic
Impressions are different from imagined
Impressions. Something you see in your
imagination or memory has a different
"feel" than an accurate psychic impression.
Psychic impressions are both spontaneous
and surprising. Like first impressions, they
tend to be quite on target despite familiarity
changing the picture.
You must learn to discriminate between
these various types of impressions.
You must learn the signature of psychic
information before you can make accurate
use of it. Being psychic is being lucky, which
is both an art and a science. To begin, try
guessing the numbers of the balls for the
state lottery. Since they are usually shown
late at night, you have the opportunity
to begin to fall asleep. With your mind in
an alpha brain wave rhythm and a non- ,
expectant state, you'll notice that each guess
29
The Awesome Science of Luck
has a certain "feel." Your misses will feel
one way (before you know they are misses)
and your hits will feel subtly different (again,
before you know you are correct).
Some of your picks will surprise you. For
many years, I have been asked to assist law
enforcement agencies with criminal profiling.
Once, an Atlanta detective asked for my
impressions over the phone about a murder.
Strangely, the phone began to smell like
burning rags, and I received the image of a
pile of burning rags on top of a stove. The
detective said, "How on earth are you getting
that? We sealed the house up, and not even
the press knew that someone had dumped
rags on top of the stove and attempted to
burn them."
On another occasion, I was sitting with
two detectives in their office, working on a
missing-child case. We were focusing on a
parking lot when a scene of a child falling
into a ravine flashed before me. It was so
fleeting that I ignored it and went back to
focusing on the parking area. Later, it turned
out that the parking area had little to do
with the child's disappearance-search and
rescue found the chi ld's body in a ravine.
30
Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems
What I learned was not to try and edit the
ponse. Every piece of information has
very fragile thread attached to it. As odd
r surprising as the impression may be,
bjectively following the thread without
diting or attempting to make sense of it
will develop the "knack" of knowing. Pull
too hard by demanding that the information
make sense, and you'll break the thread.
Whi le revisiting an unsolved murder from
the 1960s, I was shown an old black-and-
white photograph of the crime scene-a
decomposed body covered with black plastic
garbage bags. I took several deep breaths
and sat down by the detective's desk. As
I sat, a clothing label flashed before me.
What followed was an amazing description
of a woman: height, weight, her hometown,
that she was pregnant, etc. I even drew a
picture of her. I didn't know it, but while I was
viewing the photograph, the skeletal remains
were being reconstructed at the University
of Tennessee's forensic anthropology lab.
The reconstructed wax face was identical
to my drawing, and the weight, height, and
pregnancy were also confirmed. How was
such a thing possible?
31
\
The Awesome Science of Luck
Again, with this type of psychic feedback it
was all confirmed, double-blind, so to speak.
This type of information was scientifically
proven accurate, unlike the average
fortune-teller who often simply deals with
generalities and psychological truisms.
There is quite a difference between telling
people what they want to hear, e.g., "You're
going to meet a tall, dark stranger," and what
must stand up in a court of law as evidence.
From my observation, people with artistic
talents, like painters, poets, and writers,
tend to be more psychic than others. Why?
Because they are able to more effectively
express their imagination objectively and
creatively. I'll give you an example that will
probably trigger your memory and connect
you to a similar example.
When I was a child, the headboard of my
bed had swirls and grainy patterns on it.
I can recall just lying there and watching
the faces of people and animals appear,
change, and disappear in the headboard. At
times, I saw my grandfather working in the
hayfield or my mother knitting by the fire.
Yet, objectively, the headboard was only a
headboard.
32
Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems
king abstract forms and mentally turning
them into objects to which we can assign
meaning is the art of interpretation. By
that, I mean that in some way, everything
matters and everything connects, if only in
our minds. Noticing things equates to being
lucky.
The images we see will often trigger fleeting
and often surprising pictures in our minds.
Perhaps I should say that they pull them
from our superconsciousness, which can be
amazingly accurate. If what you see is very
clear, it is most likely memory or imagination;
true psychic impressions have a different
quality from imagination and don't last long.
Rather, they flash, like first impressions do.
One case I worked on involved two men who
were stealing from ATMs (automatic teller
machines). They were caught on tape, but
the quality of the tape was fuzzy and they
were thought to be wearing disguises. I was
asked to see if I could get an impression
and draw portraits of the men. At the police
station, two detectives and I were going over
my drawings when another law enforcement
agency called and emailed some mug
shots. One officer, holding my drawing and
looking at a picture-perfect replica on the
33
The Awesome Science of Luck
screen, exclaimed, "You scare me! This is
unbelievable!"
Suddenly, an image of the villain's hand
flashed before my eyes. I turned to the
detective and said, "Ask them if he has
the words 'love' and 'hate' tattooed on his
fingers." It turned out that he did. The man
confessed to being the person stealing from
the ATMs and then identified his accomplice.
It's difficult to always be correct, especially
when you're called on to be. There are
many fortune-tellers who may have amazing
insights when they are relaxed and the
conditions are right, but doing it for a
living is another thing. When memories,
imagined events, and other mental noise
cloud your consciousness, true intuitive
feedback becomes impossible. I speak from
experience.
When you are just waking from sleep,
for instance, you are more open to .clear
insights. Often, my best stock picks and
business decisions are made when standing
in the shower-especially after doing an
alternating hot and cold shower, when I'm
once again enjoying the hot water. Thoughts
and impressions are like invisible magnetic
34
Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems
ses that stick to the body's energy matrix;
old shower water demagnetizes and
washes off those impressions, freeing up
your sensitivity.
In a relaxed state, your superconscious mind
Is free to flow. That's why I stated that sleep
can be very revealing, if we can sort mental
excrement from crisp insights. For example,
one morning at 6: 15 AM, I suddenly sat
up in bed and told my wife that a cleaning
woman had just been'raped at gunpoint in
the laundromat. I drew a picture of the rapist,
and the police confirmed the crime.
Soon, two detectives were sitting in my
living room before an open fire, sipping tea.
It was inconceivable to them that someone
could have seen the crime while half-asleep
in bed. (It was this encounter that led to
my later work with the department on other
cases.) They asked where I thought the man
might be headed, and I said, "He'll be picked
up in Florida."
A few days later, the rapist and another
man were picked up for stealing a car. In
the back of the police cruiser, the rapist
said, "I hope they don't try to get me back
to Tennessee." Well, he was wrong. He
35
Th6 AW6S0m6 Sci6nce of Luck
was extradited back to Tennessee to stand
trial for rape. The-judge and prosecutor
xclaimed that my sketch of the man was
more accurate than his mug shot. Had it not
been for that drawing, the Florida authorities
wouldn't have known what he was wanted
for in Tennessee, and had I not seen him in
Florida, he might have gotten away with the
crime.
Please bear in mind that psychic information
doesn't always come in visual flashes. Just
consider the sonar of dolphins or the ability
of a bloodhound to smell a body at the
bottom of a lake. Remember, the impression
of burning rags I discussed earlier wasn't a
visual impression at all.
If you have a pet, just watching your pet
react to stimuli that you can't perceive can
make you very psychic. I wonder if the
famous psychic debunker, the Amazing
Randi, has ever had a dog. My dog can tell
when I'm at the beginning of our driveway
even though it's well beyond the range of his
sight and hearing. Some time ago, we kept
a friend's dog while she was out of state for
several weeks; three weeks later, the dog
became very excited and started whining
and staring down the driveway. She wouldn't
36
Perceptive Abilities Solve Problems
leave the door-then, suddenly, her owner
ame driving up. Now, you tell me, how did
her dog know the precise time of arrival after
an absence of three weeks?
Here is an interesting exercise you can try
If you have a dog. There is a hiking trail
behind my home; I take my dog there on a
long lead, close my eyes, and follow him.
As he stops to investigate, I'll attempt to
tune in on what he smells or hears. We will
sometimes go several miles like this. By
forcing yourself to heighten your senses of
smell and hearing, you begin to realize that
we have only a rudimentary functioning of
these organs. I've also performed the same
exercise barefoot; it really shows you how
limited we ordinarily are in feeling different
textures and surfaces.
As you practice exercises like this, you one
day realize that you hear beyond hearing,
see beyond seeing, smell beyond smelling,
and touch beyond touching. Yes, we are still
evolving into beings we can't yet imagine.
How lucky we are!

CHAPTER FOUR
How Pictures Give
Birth to Reality
Looking at old photographs, have you
noticed how your emotions are stirred up?
Emotions are the steam of desire. Emotions
power your dreams, and those dreams paint
pictures in your mind that give birth to reality
in a most magical way.
The story you're about to read is like a ghost
from the past. Once you diligently apply the
awesome science of luck, the pictures you
hold in your mind give birth to reality.
I didn't feel lucky at the time. A lot of folks
were losing their jobs. I hadn't been able
to save much, and working construction
up north in January wasn't much fun. The
old house I rented howled and whistled all
night long. The old wood stove didn't even
melt the ice that formed on the inside of the
windows. But hey, I had my dreams just like
anyone else. If only my luck would change!
Maybe you've been there as well-you
know, not much money, feeling down on
The Awesome Science of Luck
your luck, but there's one thing others can't
rip away from you. Yeah, you can always go
off by yourself to gaze out the window and
dream.
We don't often realize it, but our ability to
paint pictures in our mind is like giving birth
to a magical genie. At that time, I didn't
understand this either. So, probably just
like you, I pictured my dream home. Oh, it
sat there as pretty as a castle on a hill; just
below was a beautiful lake, where I could
dock my brand-new boat. I wanted a big
fireplace where I could rest after a day on
the water, and a nice porch where I could sit
in my rocking chair watching the sunset. Oh,
another thing-I loved the smell of the new
hardwood floors. Well, at least I could enjoy
my castle in my mind.
I was off work that day. The weatherman
said to expect a blizzard, so I wrapped a
blanket around me as I read the newspaper
and drifted off to sleep, dreaming about my
castle. Then, I don't know what the voice
was inside my head, but I awoke with a start!
My finger was resting on an advertisement
in the classified section of the paper. It read,
"New home overlooking lake-must sell."
40
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
When I called the realtor, he said he took
the listing over the phone and hadn't seen
the house. "You'd have to be a nut to go out
house shopping in a blizzard!" he told me.
But the little voice inside said, "Go!" With the
realtor's directions, I found the place-the
very place I'd seen so clearly in my mind's
eye. It wasn't crowded on the highway; in
fact, I was the only 4x4 on the road. I found
the realtor at his home and said I had to
have this house.
He hesitantly drew up the papers for my
ridiculous and embarrassingly low offer,
scowling. "This isn't going to do you much
good," he said. Then, the realtor called the
seller, but it didn't look like they were getting
along. "Here, you talk to him!" He handed
me the phone.
The seller softened as I listened to his sad
story. This new home had been constructed
for his mother and himself. She died, and
he lost his job. The bank was about to
foreclose. "How much you got?" he asked.
"Enough for a down payment," I said.
41
"liB AWBsome Science of Luck
k, you sound like a nice guy. I'm in a jam
I'd rather give it to you than the bank.
ahead and sign the papers and I'll get
right over there!"
Well, the storm passed as I stood on the
hilltop overlooking the lake. I carried an
armload of firewood as I looked at the new
boat that had never yet been in the water.
Oh, did I forget to tell you what I paid for the
castle on the hill with the new sweet-smelling
hardwood floors? 7,500 dollars.
Do you want to give birth to a magic genie
that can grant all your wishes? Now's the
time to change your luck!
What pictures spring spontaneously into
your mind? Are they pictures of things you
fear, or of things you desire? If you could
have any of your heart's desires, which
one would it be? Examine that desire
very carefully. Do you deeply believe that
its fulfillment and attainment would be
beneficial now and into the future? Very well ,
then-let's go about creating a photographic
mental negative. Once the negative is
created, it's just a matter of immerSing it in
the right mixture of emotional juices for the
picture's development.
42
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
Visualization is not about your eyes, but
about your mind. The mental imprint that
Impresses your brain cells vibrates your
body like a tuning fork with your desire. If
you strike one tuning fork and bring it close
to another tuning fork, both will vibrate
and the frequency will be intensified. Your
special desire is likewise intensified when
you come in contact with people who can
help make your dream come true. They will
be irresistibly drawn to help you. There is
a cosmic law that states, "What you want
wants you and is rushing to meet you!"
We create reality in advance, as the
headlights of our minds create the roads we
choose to follow. You must experience the
sensation of already possessing your desire
before you can magnetize it toward you.
That's right-you must experience the
sensation of your desire. Since we began
our discussion with the healthy desire
to have a nice home, how would you go
about magnetizing that image? The mental
picture must be able to stir your emotions;
that provides the developing fluid to get a
picture-perfect image that you will transpose
into reality.
43
ne Awesome Science of Luck
saw a video vignette in which a man
was so obsessed with a particular painting
In a museum that in the last scene, the man
was shown walking across the hayfield
depicted in the painting. Impossible, you
say? Well, of course, the film was science
fiction. But now, I'll tell you a real story like
that.
Not long ago, I had a vivid dream where I
was standing in a hayfield in a scene right
out of The Sound of Music. The breeze
was blowing my hair, and I was inhaling the
sweetness of the grass. Above me was a
gently gliding eagle silhouetted against a
crisp blue sky. Not a human sound was to
be heard anywhere. Strange, I thought, how
real it all was.
During my waking hours, that picture from
my dream would flash briefly before me. A
few weeks later, I found myself standing in
that same field. The former owner told me
that they harvested around 7,500 bales of
the finest hay in the nation from that field
annually, but his medical bills were forcing
him to sell it at a ridiculously low price. I told
him not to worry about the hay, but to keep
farming it. You see, I had become its new
owner!
44
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
Si nce I was a child, I've painted pictures
from images in my head. Later, I learned
how to paint mental pictures that created
Images in tangible reality. With the help of
this book, you can too.
When you form the mental image of your
dream home, smell the freshly cut lumber,
the new carpet, and open the doors of your
new kitchen cabinets and inhale. Feel how
easily the faucets turn; rinse your hands
under the warm water. Walk through your
new home from room to room; sit on the
bed, look out the windows, open and shut
the doors, walk around the outside, touch
and smell the flowers and shrubbery. Make
your mental tour as sensual as possible.
Next, form a single-frame picture of the
house with your eyes closed. Once you
are able to hold your image steady, take
your index finger and touch the middle of
your picture. Don't be concerned if your
fingerprint smudges it; it won't affect it.
Notice where your finger touched you.
Most likely, it was on a spot between your
eyes. Every time you want to energize your
cherished vision, simply push that spot; your
image should appear.
45
"116 AW6some Science of Luck
oon, like the tuning fork we discussed
arller, you'll find yourself in a circumstance
where the vibrations are so harmonizing
that you know your desire is about to
manifest. The more you practice, the easier
it becomes. Luck is not only a science, but
an art; the more you practice, the better you
get at it.
Recently, I mentally saw an auction sign
going up on a piece of property I had my eye
on, but which was beyond my means without
going into debt. I'd never been to that area
before and didn't know a thing about it; I had
stumbled on to the property while playing
around on the Internet. It was one of the
most beautiful pastoral pictures you could
ever imagine; hundreds of acres, ponds,
long creek frontage, and 360
0
views as far
as the eye could see. I found myself simply
admiring its well-kept beauty, never really
expecting to own it. It's important to pay
attention to signs-I'll show you why later.
Then it happened. I called the realtor,
who stated that on the following Saturday,
the bank would auction the property if it
wasn't bought before then. I went to see
it and returned home. Oh, yes, it was as
beautiful as the pictures, but the odd vision
46
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
nagged at my mind-that auction sign. I
xplained to the realtor that I didn't want to
Insult them with my offer (about half of the
original asking price) and I would completely
understand if they refused; however, were
they to consider my offer, I could be there in
two days with a cashier's check for the full
amount.
He said they wouldn't even think about it.
The auction was to be in three days, and
they were certain to get a higher offer. The
image of the auction sign still haunted me.
I saw it being taken down in my mind's eye,
but I couldn't imagine where the money
would come from to buy the property. They
certainly wouldn't accept my offer; the realtor
said he would be hesitant to even present
the offer. Anyone still had a chance to come
up with the money.
Someone ripped the auction sign down the
day before the scheduled bidding was to
take place. As I stood on the lovely hilltop
and slowly turned around, I smiled to myself
as I mentally spoke. "All of what I see is
mine to keep!" Oh, how pictures give birth to
reality!
47
"119 AW9$Ome Science of Luck
You may complain, "I don't have the same
bility to get clear-cut pictures in my mind!"
h, but you do. Think of the last time a
picture in your mind changed the hormones
in your body and your body vibrated at a
different frequency-was it when sex was
on your mind? The power of such pictures
is undeniable. In the animal kingdom,
when an animal feels sexual, how is it that
suitors surprisingly appear out of nowhere?
Whether you're choosing suitors or
opportunities matters little-it's the vibrations
you give off that are everything. Pictures are
vibrations that give birth to reality!
Twenty-five years ago, I was sitting in my
beachfront condo in south Florida, teaching
the secrets of creative visualization to a
small group of friends. They asked my wife
and me if we'd share our own visualization
with them.
I explained that the story went back a long
way. "But since you've tasted the fruit of
successful picture-making," I said, "I'll
reveal to you some of the intimate details."
My wife Ann lit some candles and poured
several glasses of wine as everyone got
comfortable. The sun was just going down,
48
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
nd the lights from distant yachts twinkled
like Christmas lights.
I began, "I didn't feel lucky at the time. A lot
of folks were losing their jobs. I hadn't been
able to save much. Working construction
up north wasn't much fun. The old house I
rented howled and whistled all night long.
The old wood stove didn't even melt the ice
that formed on the inside of the window ... "
I sipped my wine as the gentle sea breeze
reminded me that was a lifetime ago, then
continued. "Oh, did I forget to tell you what
I paid for the castle on the hill with the new
sweet-smelling hardwood floors? Oh, yes,
everyone called me lucky. But I was noticing
there was a rhyme and rhythm to my luck.
It was almost as if there were scientific laws
underpinning luck; I was soon to find out that
there were.
"The teachings aren't new, but just because
they are esoteric and ear-whispered doesn't
mean you can't discover them. I searched
out hidden esoteric writings, digested what
I could, and began to practice. Since I
had just purchased a new lakefront home
and boat for a mere $7500-yes, seven
thousand five hundred dollars-I knew I
49
The Awesome Science of Luck
was lucky. You see, it's very important that
you know you are lucky before you can
demonstrate it. "
I went on to describe my first test. "There
was a vacant lot adjoining my newly
acquired property, and I really wanted to
own it. Ah! Again, it was a matter of money.
You see, lakefront lots were not inexpensive,
even back then. I wondered about my newly
discovered luck; was it just a fluke, or was
there something more behind it?
"During coffee breaks at work, I would
visualize the lot and what I was going to
do with it-you know, flowers and a small
garden, maybe even a few fruit trees.
Again, my dreams were alive and wel l. I did
have one fear that I had to carefully avoid
visualizing- that of someone building a
vacation cottage next to my little palace. It
would be easy to imagine: late-night parties,
laughing and yelling all night long.
"Remember that your fears and misgivings
often materialize more powerfully than
your hopes and dreams. Why? Because
you dip those negatives into the soup of
your nervous apprehensions, and rapidly,
those pictures become reality. Hopes,
50
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
fears, dreams, and apprehensions all get
developed by the juice of your emotions.
-motion relates to direction. It states that
the E of E-motion is ergodic, meaning that
It involves the probability that any state
will recur. The E in emotion is ergo, the
unit of work that creates the direction of an
effect. Put simply, any time you get excited
and focus your mind on the object of that
excitement, you move it. That movement can
be either an attraction field or a repulsion
field. Emotions magnetize the pictures you
hold in your mind.
"So, every time I touched that picture
with my finger, I would smell the flowers I
had already planted with my mind on my
neighbor's lot. When I was ready and had
enough money to make an offer, I went to
the courthouse and looked up the owners of
that lot. They lived about ten miles away.
"In the process of visualizing the ownership
of the lot, I never spoke about it. You must
never reveal your goals to those who cannot
assist you in their fulfillment."
I suggested to the group that we take a
short break to stretch. When we resumed,
51
The Awesome Science of Luck
someone asked, "Why are you revealing this
to us? Are we to playa part in your future?"
"Yes, you are," I answered, "and you're
going to be surprised at how it all unfolds.
You might say you're student scientists
experimenting with the dynamics of luck!
You'll see firsthand how I handle signs."
I continued my story. "Before meeting with
the couple who owned the lot, I saw us
cordially sitting together in their living room.
Next, I began to do rhythmic breathing,
focusing on inhaling with my third eye-
that's the spot between your eyebrows.
"Actually, you don't really inhale through
that spot, but visualizing it causes your
pineal gland to flex. Researchers have
discovered that the pineal gland is a light-
catching net that includes the element
magnetite. Magnetite is also found in
high concentrations in migratory animals;
the higher the magnetite level, the more
uncanny are their abilities to locate their
life requirements. Exercising the pineal
gland helps develop it. We have yet to fully
understand its function as a light receptor,
but the ancients held this as a key to the
52

fulfillment of all desires, be they material or
piritual.
"Once I felt my pineal gland to be highly
charged, I visualized a ball of luminous
white fog. I placed the couple in the center
of this ball of white light, and I blessed the
meeting and outcome as the highest good
for everyone. Then I sent an impulse to the
couple and allowed the vision to fade from
sight. (Note: Today, I use a 12,500-gauss
magnetic headband worn over the third eye.
It is believed to charge up the magnetite of
the pineal gland, and it's a wonderful tool to
use in meditation. It's available from www.

"When I arrived at the lot owners' home,
just as I had imagined, we had coffee in
the living room. They were a very pleasant
elderly couple. When I brought up the topic
of the lot, they smiled and looked at each
other fondly. He grabbed her hand and
asked, 'What do you think, dear? We're
never going to do anything with that old lot.
I'm too old to clean up the briars on it. We
might as well let someone do something
nice with it.' She agreed. He continued, 'You
know, I've paid the taxes on it for thirteen
years and I don't want to pay them any

longer. How about 350 dollars? That's what
I paid for it to start with.' I was shocked! I'd
been prepared to pay ten times the amount.
It was a win/win situation. Did Lady Luck
just smile on me, or was there an awesome
science behind luck?
"In those early days of studying luck, I also
had a most unlucky thing happen to me;
maybe Lady Luck had a bad hair day and
decided to have some fun testing me. I fell
off a 300-foot building.
"Growing up poor in a blue-collar family
didn't afford me many educational
opportunities. Dad worked mostly factory
jobs, and when he got laid off, he did some
house painting. You know, sometimes you
just take what life offers. After the divorce,
Mom got a job at the library. I didn't do well
in school, except in art. Won some awards.
Was even offered a scholarship. But, like I
said, we were too poor for that. I loved the
library and got to read a lot; I guess you
could say I was homeschooled. Before I
knew it, I found myself bumming around
the country looking for work. It was out
in Colorado that I lucked into a job as an
ironworker. I remember the business agent
54

for the union asking me, 'Son, you're not
fraid of heights, are you?'
"Many years later, with lots of dangerous
experience behind me, I was up high on
a steel building skeleton. As I remember,
it was a hot afternoon in July. Even at
300 feet, no air was stirring. We had been
working overtime every day, and the money
was pretty good, I thought. I was climbing a
steel column hand over hand. As I reached
for another handhold, a hidden welded lug
knocked my fingers loose, and suddenly I
was falling down through the open building. I
heard someone scream, 'There goes Pete!'
"You know how when you almost have a car
wreck, everything gets sort of surreal, like
you're watching a movie in slow motion?
Well, reality got pretty blurred in free fall.
Down below me, there was a protruding
framework for a catwalk with one piece of
metal grating in place. Someone had left a
five-gallon bucket turned upside down in the
middle of that section-probably used it as
a seat during coffee break. I hit that bucket
with both feet. It popped like a paper cup. I
stepped off the flattened bucket and looked
up."
55
The Awesome Science of Luck
I paused for a moment, and Ann suggested
we have another glass of wine and take a
break out on the balcony. Someone asked
how high up we were. I reminded them we
were only on the fifth floor. They looked up.
"No, this condo doesn't go that high," I said,
"but what I'm about to teach you will make
you feel quite high."
"You see," I resumed, "I'd been picturing
a bright future, and dying wasn't included
in it. The more I practiced my visualization
exercises, the luckier I became. It was at
that point in my life that I began to fully
realize how our mental pictures give birth to
reality.
"The lakefront property was beautiful,
but I still had this Daniel Boone type of
personality, and I wanted to build a log cabin
deep in the mountains. Somehow, I got wind
of a rumor that a large corporation was trying
to buy some raw land from a local farmer, so
I asked around about who that might be.
"I found the old man, but not without
crossing a creek four times and following
an old dirt track several miles up a hollow.
The two of us sat in his cabin, and he would
periodically spit tobacco juice into a can. The
56
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
lickering fire in his wood stove provided all
tho light there was.
"He told me how his grandfather had settled
In this territory before statehood. He showed
me the old land grant, said he'd had 20,000
acres, but over time it got whittled down to
what was there-a bit of raw land behind the
lake and the 400 acres that he farmed.
"' I was born in this house and so was my
dad,' he said. 'I always wanted to build me
a log cabin on that ridge, on my property
you've got your eye on. Never did. You
know I've been offered big money from
that corporation for it, don't you? I don't like
those folks. Something about it I don't like.'
He paused. 'How much money you got?'
"'Three thousand dollars,' I said.
'Don't seem near enough for a hundred
acres. What would you do with it if you had
it?' he asked.
"I told him, 'I'd build that same log cabin on
the ridge that you always dreamed about.'
"He sat there quietly rocking. Neither of
us spoke. I just felt happy being in his
presence, no matter what the outcome. In
57
The Awesome Science of Luck
my three or four visits with the old man, I
began to feel toward him as a son would
feel toward his father. In some sense, we
were also like two old friends who hadn't
seen each other in years-with so much
to tell each other, yet having no rush to do
so. Sitting in silence was more than enough
communication for the heart.
"Finally, in soft, reflective tones, he spoke.
'I don't know how many days the good Lord
will give me.' He paused. Three thousand
is not much money, but I don't need much.'
Then, looking me straight in the eye, he said,
'You promise me you'll build that log cabin
and you can have it all for thirty per acre.' I
promised him I would.
"' I'll probably never see it, but wherever I
am, I'll know it, ' he said. 'I believe you, son,
it's yours. And one more thing-land ain't
worth squat without mineral rights. I'm giving
you the gas well those city folks were after,
and you're gonna get a royalty check every
month for the gas that's sold. You just be
good to the land.'
"My luck had improved in the construction
business as well. Soon, I was in charge of
building a civic center. The newspaper and
58
How Pictures Give Birth to Reality
V reporters were there to inform the public
of its progress, and the next Sunday, my
picture was on the front page in vivid color.
"As I directed a high girder into place
spanning the open auditorium that would
seat thousands, I thought of my cabin on the
ridge, and the mental picture warmed my
heart. Then, a fellow worker shouted to a
reporter, 'Ask him about the log home he just
built!' That was the luckiest question I was
ever asked.
'''You took several years off just to work on
this log cabin? You cut each tree by hand
and peeled them with an axe? Unbelievable!'
The questions continued and the cameras
kept clicking. I just wanted them to leave so
I could return to my quiet, but there I was
again on the front page in living color-
'Modern-Day Mountain Man!'
"Finally, I decided to retreat from modern life
and revisit my heart's desire. That was the
last time I had a job or worked for anyone
else. I began to write. Visitors came and
went; one day, a distinguished football
coach came bumping down my Jeep trail in
his shiny Lincoln Continental. As we sat in
rocking chairs on my porch gazing out over
59

the blue ridges, he asked what I thought the
future held. Strange, I thought to myself,
everyone seems to be asking me to tell them
their future. I replied, 'Your future is the full
composite of the pictures you hold in your
mind.'
"'Why, you sound as crazy as my daughter!'
he said. 'I'll have to bring her out here
sometime. So tell me, what's your future
hold?'
"'Well, I'll be selling this place, and in a
few years I'll be living on a much higher
mountain. The front of my new home will
be three stories of large glass windows.
The main living room will have a huge
stone fireplace soaring up around twenty
feet.' I put my hand on his arm as I said, 'I'll
be living with the woman of my dreams; I
already call her my raven-haired beauty for
her long black hair. I even did a painting of
her a few years ago. Do you want to see it?'
"'You'll sell me this place, won't you?' he
asked.
"I smiled. 'It depends on what the future
holds.'

looked at my wife. "Honey, tell them about

CHAPTER FIVE
Pay Attention to
the Signs
All the lucky people that I've surveyed have
strong sense of serendipity. It's the knack
f finding treasures you may not have been
looking for consciously. However, you do set
an unconscious program in motion when you
have clearly seen a picture of your desire in
your mind's eye and you have colored that
desire with emotion.
You are perhaps familiar with James Allen's
classic little book As a Man Thinketh. The
title comes from a verse uttered by King
Solomon. "As a man thinketh in his heart ... "
is a very meaningful expression. The heart,
being the so-called seat of emotion, has
great power to fuel what we see on our
mind's picture screen.
Here's how your superconscious comes into
play; only after you have spent time "thinking
in your heart" do those desires take on the
ability to magnetize people, circumstances,
and material objects. Next, when sufficient
The Awesome Science of Luck
attraction force has been developed,
unexpected good fortune or serendipity may
appear. These serendipitous events are
signs. Pay attention to the signs, for they
indicate the path to your success.
When you start having serendipitous
surprises with regularity, you begin to expect
them with regularity. Yet, all these fortunate
happenings are the fragrance of your main
objective. They are the signs of your "lucky"
acquisition about to be realized. Like attracts
like and luck attracts luck. There is no way
around it; lucky people have a strong sense
of serendipity, and they create their own
reality in harmony with their goals.
To review, goals seen as mental pictures
and colored with heartfelt emotion create an
invisible attraction field. This attraction field
carries the aura of serendipity. Serendipitous
events are signs. Pay attention to the signs.
Fast-forward from Fort Lauderdale to the
beautiful southern mountains of the eastern
US. Some of the original members of our
Fort Lauderdale creative visualization group
were seated in my living room, a roaring
fire burning in the huge stone fireplace
that soars 18 feet above us. The front of

tructure sported twelve high windows
king out into the lush woodland and tall
ountains. S o m e ~ n e was playing the white

gin the seminar. We all committed to a
moment of silence to honor the magic of life,
nd looking around me, I was once again
wed by the science of luck.
I began outlining some exercises for
optimizing one's luck, but one of the original
members of our Florida group asked me,
"Peter, can you tell the audience the story of
the sign?" To oblige my friend, I decided to
tell the story.
"Well, the signs were everywhere as six
of us arrived in this little resort town on
the Fourth of July. The rental truck that
contained all our earthly possessions
resembled a pregnant elephant. I led the
procession driving a red Cadillac Eldorado
convertible. At the time, it only had a few
thousand miles on it, and judging by the
holiday traffic, it wasn't going to get many
more.
"Our caravan, by a stroke of good luck,
pulled up to the office of the realtor I had
spoken with from Florida. He looked like he
65
The Awesome Science of Luck
was about to have a stroke. Looking at six
travel-weary faces, he stammered, 'Where
will you be staying?'
"'Why, Mike,' I said, putting my hands on his
shoulders, 'that's why we're here, for you to
find us a place!'
"'Just look at all that traffic!' he exclaimed.
'Tonight's the big parade, and all this will
be blocked off. There isn't a single motel
or hotel or rental chalet or cabin on the
mountain that isn't rented or occupied!'
"'Mike, suppose that's not a problem. Do you
have any other reason for not finding us a
house with four or five bedrooms to rent? I'm
sure we'd all like to shower and rest up a bit.'
"'Are you crazy? I can't do that at such short
notice,' said Mike.
'''Sure you can. You never know, you might
just get lucky. We'll wait while you make
some calls,' I said. In fact, Mike didn't have
a choice as long as we were parked in the
parking lot-that is, unless he just fled on
foot.

ut the minute I stepped into the living

tter?' Mike asked more soberly.
'''Brown carpet. It can't have brown carpet,
Mike. It's a vibration thing. We have to have
more cheerful carpet.'
"Mike slapped his forehead and began
wringing his hands nervously. 'I've only got
one more lead, and it's probably not going to
pan out.'
"' Mike, listen," I told him. 'Never say anything
you don't sincerely want to happen. If in your
heart of hearts you don't want the six of us
to spend the night at your house, you've got
to take a more positive viewpoint.'
"All the lucky people I know hold very
positive expectations and are immune to
rejection. Even if one opportunity doesn't
pan out, they know in their heart of hearts
that their world is filled with nothing but
opportunities. They absolutely believe they
lead charmed lives.
67
The Awesome Science of Luck
"Well, as luck would have it, a doctor had
just purchased a new townhouse located on
the summit of the mountain near the town.
The unit had five bedrooms. The carpet was
white. It was brand new. Even the doctor
hadn't stayed there yet. The mountain views
were awesome! The cost? Zero! For some
strange reason, the stranger said we could
stay in his new townhouse for nothing! What
luck-it was a sign we couldn't ignore.
"As the days passed, I knew I was driving
Mike crazy. But I also knew he liked us. I
know it's really tough being around a group
of unlimited people. We drove up and down
that mountain looking for the magical parcel
of land I had described to Ann's father on
the porch of my log cabin years ago. Mike
insisted no such thing existed. I said it did.
'Mike, why do you think I would have gone
through all this trouble to come up here,
leaving the comfort of my beachfront condo,
if it didn't exist?' He complained that my logic
didn't make sense to him.
"I took a folded index card from my wallet,
looked him straight in the eye, and read
aloud, 'Ask and it will be given you. Seek
and you shall find.' Mike agreed to keep
looking.

"' Well, of course it's a sign!'
'''Good, Mike, now that we agree, call the
owner and tell him I just bought it.'
"' But you don't know how many acres
there are or how much he's asking for the
property,' Mike protested. I told him not to
fuss about the details and just to call the
owner.
"The next day, Mike came over to our place.
He said the owner lived in Florida and he
asked a friend up here to put the sign up. He
added, 'He was as mad as hell that you tore
his sign out of the ground, and he changed
his mind about selling it!'
''' Mike, just call him again,' I said. 'It's nothing
personal, you just didn't explain yourself
clearly enough.'
69
The Awesome Science of Luck
The next day, Mike came over again. 'Don't
ask me to call him again. He's even hotter
than he was the first time I called.'
'''Mike, come over here. I want to show you
something. Do you see that drawing hanging
over the fireplace?"
"Mike turned white, as if he'd seen a ghost
or something, and ran out of the house to his
pickup truck. Like a cat scratching up gravel,
he sorted through papers in his truck. Then
he ran back into the house, threw a survey
map down on the table, and looked at my
drawing again. 'Where on earth ... no, don't
even begin to tell me where you got that!' he
spluttered.
"'Mike, I told you, I drew it,' I said.
'''You couldn't have.'
"'I did,' I said. 'It was part of my creative
visualization exercise. Seek and you shall
find. Ask and it will be given you.'

used to get out the old poster I had
de, and the hundred people in my living

them. I saw their mouths drop open as
yewitnesses confirmed what I had just
described to be the truth.
Someone asked, "But at that point the owner
was still refusing to sell. What made him
change his mind?"
I replied, "Mike said that same thing: 'He's
still not changing his mind. And I'm not
calling him again. And don't you get any
silly ideas about calling him. You're the last
person he wants to speak with!'
"'Mike, he'll have a dream and he'll call you,'
I said. Mike left in a huff.
"Sure enough, the next day, I heard Mike's
brakes slam as he pulled into the driveway.
He rushed into the house with papers in
his hand. 'He's agreed to sell, I drew up the

contract and told him I'd get you to sign it
and I'll overnight him a contract as welL' I
looked at the contract and said he'd made a
mistake on the purchase amount. It was too
much. Mike just about died on the spot.
"Richard, the owner, had been a wealthy
orange grower in central Florida, and he
really didn't need the money. Somehow,
there wasn't enough he could do for us. A
year after the contract was signed, we stood
in front of the house, looking up and seeing
how nicely the three-story structure fit into
the mountain. Richard shook his head and
said, 'I shouldn't have done this!' He laughed
warmly. 'I shouldn't have sold this!'
"Later, we were sitting before the roaring fire
with glasses of fine wine, and Richard asked
how we worked such magic. Putting my
hand on his shoulder, I replied, 'You have to
pay attention to the signs.'"
72
CHAPTER SIX
Breathing Light
into the Things
You Desire
plants didn't breathe, neither would
we. That mysterious element sparks the
Imagination with limitless possibilities.
Plants breathe photonic emissions from the
sun captured by oxygen molecules. Quite
literally, plants breathe sunlight. The smallest
particle of light is a photon. Each photon is a
quantum of electromagnetic radiation.
"Quantum" means a very small particle. A
quantum is also described as a "magnetic
moment." You can say that when there is an
abundant flow of electromagnetic energy,
there is a very strong attraction field. This
is why, when you mentally engulf the image
of the thing you desire with white light, you
create an attraction force field. In a magnetic
moment, you instantly draw to you what you
want.
You don't have to understand how it will
come to you, only that it will come to you
unerringly. The only prerequisite is for you
to breathe light into the thing you desire.
Your body is loaded with solar energy
cells, known as "80nghan corpuscles,"
which were discovered 44 years ago by
Korean researchers. They found that the
photosynthesis of plants was the same
process as the metabolism in our bodies.
Putting aside your body's ability to eat light
and a plant's ability to eat light, both also
radiate light. The cells of all living things
radiate light. Another researcher, Herbert
Pohl, discovered that animals, humans,
plants, and even bacteria give off radio
signals that are especially strong during cell
division. These signals could be described
as a flow of magnetic moments. A German
physicist and chemist, Dr. Albert Popp, calls
them "biophotons." These photons can come
in any wavelength or color; the signals span
the entire electromagnetic spectrum.
The signals you and I receive from our
televisions, computers, radios, and cell
phones also span the entire electromagnetic
spectrum that allows us to communicate.
Light equals communication. When an
76
becomes excited, it emits a photon;
magnetic moment is a form of
mmunication.
It Is well understood that the pineal gland in
Igratory animals is responsible for giving
uncanny abilities to particular creatures. It is
Iso known that the pineal gland is not only a
light receptor, but a biomagnetic organ, due
to its high magnetite content. The ancients
have long believed that the practice of
breathing through the pineal gland gives you
the ability to breathe light into the things you
desire. It's just like when you pluck a guitar
string and an oscillation of the string sends
a tone. The smallest particle of a tone is
called a phonon; it is the quantum of sound,
a magnetic moment that sends a message.
When you form an image with your eyes
closed and you attempt to place your finger
on it, you'll be pressing on your third eye,
the spot between your eyebrows. Form
an image and imagine you are inhaling
light through that spot. As you repeat this
exercise, you'll begin to notice an electrical
tingle running upward along your spine, over
your head and into your pineal gland. As the
practice is repeated, this gland begins to
flex, and strong surges of electromagnetic
77
The Awesome Science of Luck
currents become apparent. These are
accompanied by bright flashes of white light.
At this point, you are breathing light.
When you exhale, the energy cluster will
drop down through the solar plexus to a spot
two inches below your navel, at which time
you'll begin to feel a subtle tingling in the
palms of your hands, the bottoms of your
feet, and the top of your head. When you
inhale, your bones, muscles, and organs
are charged up with biophotons; when you
exhale, powerful electromagnetic currents
are discharged.
Now, here is the secret to breathing light into
the things you desire. This universal light is
everywhere; it connects all things within its
electromagnetic spectrum. It is a messenger
acting on your behalf. Every thought and
every intention of the heart are carried on its
wings. As you increase the light around the
object of your desire, you are magnetizing it
to yourself.
Each contraction of the pineal gland
becomes an atomic event. You have excited
the atoms to such a degree that they are
forced to emit their photons; that's why you
see the ball of light around your desire. Once
78
thing Light into the Things You Desire
desire is illuminated with the impulse of
ntlon, you bless it and send it. It will not
turn to you empty. Suddenly, you just got
kyl
f course, I'll caution you, be careful what
you wish for, because you're bound to
receive it. Why do I say to exercise caution?
cause if you wish for a certain thing to
ome into your life, you must really want it
to be there. To refuse the offerings of the
universe is to insult it, and insulting the
universe is another way of creating bad luck.
I hope that makes sense.
Additionally, you must be very specific in
your desires. You'll notice from your previous
reading of the earlier chapters that all my
visual izations were quite detailed: the color
of the Fleetwood, the height of the fireplace,
the size of the windows, the view, and so on.
One thing I never focused on was how. The
"how" is not your concern; the creation of the
attraction field and the breathing of light into
the things you desire are your concerns.
The specificity of your desires is, again,
quite important. If you see yourself handling
large stacks of hundred-dollar bills, you
might find yourself working as a bank
79
The Awesome Science of Luck
teller, for instance! I heard of one man who
told everyone that one day he would tour
the South Pacific. Sure enough, he found
himself drafted into the military and sailing
on a troop ship to Vietnam. It wasn't what he
had in mind.
I've been guilty on a few occasions of
asking for things I really didn't want in my
heart of hearts. Sitting on my desk, there
is a wonderfully crafted model of a white
Cornish convertible Rolls-Royce. (I received
it as a gift because I used the company's
standard of excellence as an example in
my seminars.) I used to joke about the fact
that you'd never see one abandoned along
the highway or found in a junkyard. In idle
moments, I'd roll it around on my desk and
pretend to drive it. I know, I know, it sounds
a bit silly, but I've got a great imagination
and, as you can tell, I'm quite playful.
So, one day, Richard, the man who sold
us this beautiful mountaintop property, and
I were having that glass of wine that we
poured in the last chapter. "Peter, since you
influenced me so much as to have gotten
the deal I gave you on the property, I'll make
you an offer," he said.
80
r9athing Light into the Things You Desire
ured he was about to offer me some type
reward for helping him acquire or fulfill a
rtain desire, but I never expected this.
He continued, "If you can help me get Mr. X
to sell me that old antique shop downtown,
I'll give you my white Rolls-Royce!"
Don't breathe too hard over things you
aren't certain about, because it's too easy to
breathe light into the things you do desire.
Let's now go back and examine the
relationship between breathing and luck.
Lucky people, or at least consistently lucky
people, have consciously or unconsciously
created strong attraction fields for what
they want. You could also say, in view of
our other discussions about photons, that
this attraction field is a "life" field. Now, for a
moment, think about the air you breathe and
how it makes you feel as you breathe it.
If you happen to be confined in an office that
is buzzing with electromagnetic pollution,
noise, and anxiety, your personal attraction!
life field is distracted. Our instinctual natures
and natural impulses are inhibited by stress.
Stress is the natural enemy to luck. Deep
diaphragmatic breathing releases stress,
81
,
The Awesome Science of Luck
muscular tension, and inhibited natural
impulses, as well as our instinctual nature.
You can compare the vitality of your air to
the carbonation of a beverage. When the
carbonation is lost, the beverage goes stale
or flat. The same happens with the air you
breathe. The air you breathe is a mixture
of gaseous elements-mostly nitrogen,
oxygen, and hydrogen. In the lungs, these
gases become blood. If your blood becomes
flat or stale, you die. On the other hand,
when the air you breathe is fresh and vital,
your body will buzz and hum like a radio
broadcasting station.
In my 2001 book, How Long Do You Choose
To Live?, in the chapter titled "Electric
Breath," you'll find a magazine excerpt about
two men in the Czech Republic who were
able to make themselves into "human radio
receiving sets." They put their hands on a
loudspeaker and could tune in to any station
within a range of several hundred miles.
They were investigated by scientists and
reporters alike, who remained baffled by the
feat. The only explanation offered was that
certain deep breathing exercises enabled
them to become channels for information
being broadcast on the airwaves.
82

sn' t matter what element we're
Iklng about, each atom is constructed
certain number of protons. Protons
Ide in the nucleus of the atom and have
positive charge. Surrounding this nucleus
f positively charged protons, there are an
qual number of electrons, which have a
negative charge. There is, however, one
unique characteristic that the universe
has built into the electrons' structure;
they are quite fickle. Since they are 1800
times lighter than protons, under the right
conditions, they can escape from the atom.
You may be thinking "So what?" but under
certain conditions, it could be the difference
between your life and death.
Let me explain. When a large number of
air ions become positively charged and the
negative charge of the earth creates a strong
attraction field, these positive ions fall to
earth. When there is an electrical discharge
en masse, this unbalanced atmospheric
ionization alters behavior. An overdose
of positively charged air can reduce your
breathing capacity by as much as 30%. It
also creates an adrenaline overload that
soon exhausts the nervous system, raising
anxiety levels.
83
When the moon moves closer to the earth,
as it does during a full moon, the lower
portion of the ionosphere (between 25 and
250 miles from the earth), which is positively
charged, is pulled into our atmosphere
by the negative charge of the earth. The
result is altered human behavior. Just like
some people can forecast the coming of
bad weather by the pains in their joints and
old injuries, it's all electrical. The medical
profession has even learned to treat cases
of schizophrenia with negative ions.
So, what's this all about and how does this
relate to luck? First, remember that tension
is the enemy of luck because it dulls the
natural instincts and impulses that subtly
provide us with various forms of information.
Positive ionization causes free radicals;
by that, I mean it encourages runaway
electrons and creates an imbalanced
attraction field. Thus, when you attempt to
breathe light into the things you desire, your
personal bioelectric condition is reduced,
making it more difficult to excite the atoms in
your pineal gland to release their photons.
If you can't make the cloud of white light
to place your desire in, you have severely
handicapped its fulfillment. So, what are
84
r---- ...-,--.......... ::I _.::1 .. .. ... .. - . - .. .. .. - - ~ - .. -- - -----
u to do? Here are a few suggestions
m ancient occult teachings. Wear only
natural cotton (organic cotton), especially
when doing these exercises. Shower in cold
water first, before your visualization work
begins. Tell no one what you are doing, for
reat things are done in secret. Next, burn
only the finest, highest-quality frankincense
(available from www.roaringlionpublishing.
com), never perfumed wood. Note: at one
time, frankincense was the most valuable
commodity on earth and more expensive
than gold or diamonds. The ancients well
understood its power to trigger internal
chemical and hormonal reactions that assist
in the ability to breathe light into the things
you desire.
Natural organic fabrics are a defense against
the counterproductive effects of positive
ions. Everyone knows the effect of being
shocked by static electricity-it can happen
when you touch the door of your car after
coming out of a discount shopping center,
or especially a laundromat. Why does this
happen? It happens because steel and
concrete absorb and trap negative ions and
attract a charge from the friction of positively
charged air passing over them, charging the
metal in your car door. It's the same thing as
85
The Awesome Science of Luck
shuffling your feet on synthetic carpet and
touching someone and getting a shock.
I'm now going to add another element that
helps you breathe light into the things you
desire-sleeping on a magnetic mattress
pad and using large ceramic plate magnets
under your feet as you do your visualization.
With the north side up, your power to create
an attraction field for the things you desire
is greatly increased. (The world's most
powerful magnets are available from www.
roaringlionpublishing.com.)
While the ancients didn't have ceramic or
rare earth magnets of the power available
today, they did have magnetic lodestone-
that's a strongly magnetic variety of iron ore.
Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, wore one over
her third eye. Perhaps, had she worn my
magnetic headband, she might have had
better luck with snakes!
Additionally, I would include another item
they didn't have in the ancient world: a
negative ion generator. Don't worry, as your
luck improves, you'll have plenty of money to
obtain one.

Ing back to cold showers for a moment,
reason for them is that thought forms
units of clustered bioelectric energy
hAt stick to the body's aura like a balloon's
tAUC electric charge allows it to stick to
the wall. Negative thought forms are like
lectrical clothing that affects and colors the
messages we receive from others and the
xternal world.
You've most likely heard the term "breath of
life." Photons carry life force, or vital energy.
Deep breathing is like a blacksmith using
the bellows to make his furnace white-hot
so he can mold and shape the metal to his
liking. You have the ability to use these tools
to mold and shape your future, improve
your luck, and control your destiny. You can
breathe light into the things you desire.
87
CHAPTER SEVEN
How Can You Tell If
Something Is Right
For You?
Have you ever thought about it this way-
you touch things with your eyes and get
kinesiological feedback? Sight is a subtle
form of touch. If you don't believe me,
consider a common occurrence. You're
sitting in traffic and you glance over at the
driver in the next lane. Suddenly, feeling
your gaze, he turns toward you. What
happened? You touched him with your
faculty of sight, and he felt you looking at
him.
The reverse is also true, as you well know.
Someone looks at you and you instantly
feel it. Anyone who is vision-impaired has
developed a great sensitivity to being
touched by sight.
Let me ask you a question. Visualize walking
in a vacant lot filled with weeds. You're about
to take a step when you notice an old board
with sharp rusty nails sticking upward. What
sensation did you feel running through your
body?
Here's a more graphic example. You pick
up the old board to turn it over so no one
else will get hurt on the nails. Suddenly, your
vision narrows in on a shiny black spider
with a red hourglass on its abdomen, and
you drop the board. Did you feel stronger
or weaker? Well, it's quite obvious that your
heart rate just increased as an adrenal dump
or endocrine cascade took place, leaving
you feeling weaker. We can agree that
observing a terrible accident on the highway
weakens us as well. But many would deny
that the colors we wear, the odors we smell,
the music we hear, the pictures we have on
the wall, the way we arrange our furniture, or
the people with whom we interact have any
effect on our luck.
A man by the name of James Stevens
has devised an interesting apparatus for
testing whether something we are looking
at or thinking of doing is good for us or
bad for us. This device can be seen at
www.testyourself.info. It tests your muscle
strength or physical reaction to a certain
item, be it a vitamin, food, piece of clothing,
90
I or a particular piece of music. There
whole field of scientific study associated
Ith thi s; it's called behavioral kinesiology, or
Imply muscle testing.
When energy is flowing properly through
your body-you know, those days when
you're just humming and your world is
perfect-you feel on top of the world. It is on
those days that you feel lucky! In fact, not
only do you feel lucky, you are lucky. When
your physical antennas are up, you're tuning
In to all good things and attracting them into
your life. The bioelectrical circuits of your
body are all in balance, and your muscles
or energy pumps are all working powerfully,
changing your posture so that it reflects a
proud, erect being full of life. When you're
vibrating like that, good things happen.
Those good things we call luck .
..'.
Bad luck is when we don't notice the effects
things have on us. For a detailed study of
how your body reacts to things, please read
Your Body Doesn't Lie by Dr. John Diamond,
MD. It is my contention that you never
have an accident without being warned at
least three times in advance, just like you
never have a divorce without many advance
91
warnings that something is wrong. Luck is
the art of paying attention.
Paying attention is the art of remaining
conscious. Remaining conscious is called
consciousness. To be acutely conscious
of the effect of every little thing-to realize
that the flowers of the field, the birds in the
trees, the chirp of a cricket, and a butterfly
landing on your hand are all messages to be
heard-is superconsciousness. In that state,
you are very lucky, because you always
know what is right for you.
This is also the case with certain animals.
Even if you look at them from a hidden place
a hundred yards away, crows or deer will
react with as much of a start as if you had
actually touched them. In fact, you did; you
touched the outer edge of their web of life,
and they knew it. Humans, by and large,
have dulled these sensitivities.
When you practice keen observation
coupled with acute sensitivity, you'll begin
to notice that every item you see and touch
has a particular vibration. Once you are
capable of distinguishing the differences
between various items, you'll know how to
92
..
Il crlmlnate between what is good for you
nd what isn't.
donce has confirmed by countless tests
that behavioral kinesiology is very accurate
In telling a person if something is good or
bad for him/her. As you;jrilractice, soon you'l l
begin to realize that all you have to do is
hold an obj ect in your hand or simply think
about a target situation to get an answer
from your superconscious mind. It will come
as an impulse-subtle, but accurate. Soon,
your entire environment becomes filled with
lights that say "stop," "go," and "caution."
If you obey these lights, how lucky do you
suppose you'll be?
Let's reason out this one together. If muscle
testing is accurate (and tests show it to be),
then what else can we learn from an object?
A number of years ago, my dog was playing
with a rawhide chew. He threw it up into the
air and it fell down deep into a snowbank.
Then, he went on romping and running
through the snow until he tired. When he
returned, he sniffed the air, suddenly dove
into the snowbank, and retrieved his rawhide
chew. I was amazed that he could find it.
You might say he was able to detect its
scent. True. A bloodhound, given a sniff of
93
an article of clothing, can follow an invisible
trail to the person who wore it. Scent is a
vibration-a totally invisible vibration.
Things retain telltale vibrations from past
experiences, much like a person who has
been in a smoke-filled room retains the smell
of cigarette smoke. Any item will retain the
vibrational experiences of its former owners;
like a ball of yarn, all you need do is follow
the thread to see where it leads. That's how
I was able to track the decomposed body of
a Jane Doe to concrete leads confirmed by
the forensic anthropology laboratory at the
University of Tennessee, when all I had to go
on were a few black-and-white photographs
from the 1960s. A photograph can still
capture and retain a vibration. Reading that
vibration, like in muscle testing, will tell you if
the vibration is positive or negative.
Consider for a moment the photographs
you have displayed in your home. They
may be of deceased loved ones, or even
pets. These are not just photos-they are
vibration machines, like the fog machines
they use in theatrical performances, but this
fog can only be seen by a clairvoyant.
94
--<;I -- - --a--- - --
member, all your hormones are
hemicals, which are vibrations. All
vibrations are simple alterations in sub-
atomic structure. Every vibration changes
the way you feel, which in turn determines
your good or bad luck.
I suppose, if you were to use the vocabulary
of a clairvoyant, you could say I was doing
psychometry. That means establishing a
connecting link between an object and a
future or past event. Why does that sound
so strange to some people? We know for
certain that colors, tastes, the feel of objects,
the sound of music or voices, the various
scents in the air, all affect body chemistry.
For instances, take the smell of baking
bread or burning leaves; even just reading
this, if you are quite sensitive, you can
actually smell that scent. Recall my story of
the Georgia murder case where I actually
smelled burning rags from the phone; the
actual scent was a combination of chemicals
in my own body reacting to the vibrations I
was perceiving at that time.
Exercise One
Here is a little experiment you can perform.
Take some white refined sugar (which is
95
The Awesome Science of Luck
bad for you) and another sUbstance that
you know to be good for you. Place the two
substances in identical paper bags. Next,
have a friend switch them around until you
don't know which one is which (turn your
back while they switch them around). Now,
without muscle testing, just by holding them,
decide which one is beneficial and which
one is harmful. You'll be surprised at how
correct you can be.
If you're unable to feel the impulse while
looking at or holding the bag, have a
friend muscle test which one is good for
you and which one is bad. This is done
by holding your arm out horizontally and
having someone push down on your wrist.
First, do it without any test object to get an
idea of your normal strength level. Next,
test yourself while you are looking at or
holding the bag. This will make you stronger
or weaker, depending on whether the
substance in the bag is good or bad for you.
Soon, as I said, you'll be able to simply
look at objects, people, or even ideas that
appear on your mental screen and know
conclusively what to do about them. You'll
know if they are good or bad for you.
96
w Can You Tel/If Something Is Right For You?
ently, I had an idea pass onto my mental
reen and nothing but green lights went
n. Do you want to know what it was? It's
the book that's in your hands at this very
moment. Ah, what luck!
xercise Two
After you become adept at the first exercise,
try this one. I've used this exercise in
my creative visualization workshops to
strengthen vibrational threads.
Take several different items: a watch, a ring,
a piece of tableware, etc. Put each one in
a separate bag, and mix them up. Then try
to figure out which one is in each bag. Do
this not by idly guessing, but by trying to
feel the impulses. This will be the same type
of impulse you've been able to identify by
muscle testing with your mind. Once you get
the knack of this, you'll be surprised at how
easy it can become.
Exercise Three
This third exercise will further develop
your natural psychic abilities. I know, many
people scoff at this, just as a sighted person
would be scoffed at in the world of the blind.
97
The Awesome Science of Luck
Take an item that belongs to someone you
do not know. (You'll have to arrange for
a friend to bring it to you.) Hold the item
to your forehead and start pulling on that
thread. Do not attempt to make logical
guesses; simply pay attention to sudden,
fleeting impulses. If you've practiced the first
two exercises in this section, you'll have a
feel for what a correct selection is like.
This is just like training your ear to identify
certain notes on a musical scale, or like
developing a taste for certain flavors in a
glass of wine. Psychics train themselves to
identify certain vibrations and their telltale
physical signals.
Many things may occur when you press
an object to your forehead, such as even
feeling an ache or pain that the owner of
the object may be experiencing. I personally
have never had that kind of experience, but I
often see flashes of the object's history. For
instance, a bullet might reveal a battlefield
scene, or an old Valentine card might reveal
the drama of a love affair. A business card
might trigger a visit to an unlikely place and
a chat with the company's representative,
resulting in prosperity.
98
W Cll n You Tel/If Something Is Right For You?
'I doing these exercises, you'll be learning
niff out opportunity the way a hound can
lIow a track. There are tracks everywhere,
If wo only develop the ability to smell
them out. I don't really consider this to be
"paranormal," since I have come to realize
that most people's sensibilities are sub-
normal. However, that doesn't mean they
an't be developed.
Just think what it would mean if you could
always tell what is right for you. You'd always
be in the right place at the right time, for the
right reason. I'd call that luck, wouldn't you?
Ah yes! The awesome science of luck-how
you can win all the time.

CHAPTER EIGHT
How I Made a
Million Dollars on
Friday the 13th!
Steve had just finished writing a wonderful
little book, a parable designed to be a
motivational best-seller. It's about how to lift
obstacles that block success. He titled it The
Stonelifter: An Uplifting Tale. So, Steve and I
were sitting in my living room brainstorming.
Steve said he wanted to get as many copies
of his book into the hands of America's
salespeople as he could. We began to list
companies and organizations that would be
lucky prospects.
I reasoned that the best opportunity might
be starting with the company he worked
for, somewhat like what happened to Og
Mandino when he wrote The Greatest
Salesman in the World. W. Clement Stone,
the owner of the insurance company
Og worked for, bought a copy for every
salesperson in the organization-100,OOO
copies. Og later went on to sell millions of
The Awesome Science of Luck
copies of his book, making him the most
famous success writer of our time.
Was this simply a stroke of good luck, or
was there actually a science behind it that
anyone could learn? After all, there are a
lot of talented, unsung writers in the world
who never get published. I started to see
how I could help my friend Steve. Using
the visualization technique I've taught for
decades, I began my deep breathing, pulling
energy up my spine while inhaling with
my third eye and then exhaling it down to
a spot below my navel . As soon as I was
charged, with my eyes closed, I visualized
a ball of luminous white fog and pictured a
major sales organization executive saying,
"You're going to sell 100,000 copies." Next,
I envisioned the president of the company
endorsing the book and promoting it. I
charged the image with white light and sent
it off as an impulse. The white mist faded.
Over the next few days, when I had the
time, I pondered which organizations might
be best for such a project. I reasoned that
perhaps the most motivated self-starters,
the kind that don't need to be cranked,
would be involved in a multi-level marketing
program. These people would love to add
102
w I Made a Million Dollars on Friday the 13th!
n additional product that helped them and
helped promote their company.
Well, things were getting busy at my own
ompany, Roaring Lion Corp. Sales were
up sharply, I was getting a lot of good press,
nd interviews with me were appearing in
major magazines. In the midst of all this
activity, one of our clients wanted to involve
us with a company that sold non-transdermal
energy enhancement patches. My partner
in Roaring Lion raved about the product,
but I wasn't so sure. "Tony," I said, "we're
swamped with projects right now!" Then I
tried the LifeWave patches and was shocked
at how effective they were. We signed up as
distributors.
I could quickly see the relationship between
the patches and two of our hottest products,
Magnetic Qi Gong and Money Magic. I said,
"Tony, these products need to be combined
into a book to help people understand the
relationship between how the life force flows
through the body's energy channels and how
that force field, when heightened, attracts
prosperity!"
He said, "Well, Peter, you're the one most
qualified to write it. If you feel so strongly
103
The Awesome Science of Luck
about the project, we'll put the other projects
on the back burner."
There was, however, something else
happening on the superconscious highway.
As I began to write, that familiar energy buzz
was in the background. Only ten days later,
I had finished the 224-page book. At about
. the same time, we had signed on our first
100 distributors. But how to get the LifeWave
organization to notice us?
As luck would have it, they did notice us,
and they invited me to be a keynote speaker
for their organization. As Tom Hopkins said
in his Official Guide to Success, "Make
a sensation and you'll get noticed by the
people at the top who can help you." As luck
would have it, the president of the company
and inventor of the LifeWave patches also
practices Oi Gong, and a year before, he
had read about my controversial Magnetic
Qi Gong.
Magnetism was now taking on a new
meaning. Remember, what you want wants
you! It is rushing to meet you! What you
see in your mind's eye is what you get. The
awesome science of luck was fast at work.
104
w' Made a Million Dollars on Friday the 13th!
While I was speaking with one of the
mpany's executives, Dr. Steven
Itlwanger, on the phone, I had a
hback to the visualisation of
00,000 copies. Dr. Haltiwanger said, "You
know, Peter, you're going to sell 100,000
opies of that book!" and I replied, "Yes, I
know that," as the image floated across my
mind.
Soon, the new book The LifeWave
Phenomenon was ready to go to press. The
foreword of the book was written by guess
who? That's right, David Schmidt, president
of LifeWave. Was my visualization for finding
an organization for mass distribution of a
book luck, or the awesome science behind
luck? Am I just naturally lucky, or did I
discover the mechanism for creating one's
own luck?
We decided to send out an email advertising
a pre-publication sale. Not single copies of
the book-a by-the-case-only sale. Now,
tell me, who's going to buy a whole case
of books they've never seen from a person
they've never heard of?
The email wassenton ... Friday the
13th. According to Dr. Donald Dossey, a
105
The Awesome Science of Luck
psychotherapist specializing in phobias,
close to 21 million Americans are
superstitious about Friday the 13th. Some
people won't go to work on that day, set a
wedding on that date, or eat in a restaurant
on Friday the 13th. Here's what the British
Medical Journal had to say in 1993 about
Friday the 13th: "Friday the 13th is unlucky
for some. The risk of hospital admission
as a result of a transport accident may
be increased by as much as 52 percent.
Staying home is recommended."
A transport accident.. .hmm. When NASA
launched Apollo 13 at 1313 hours Central
time in April of 1970-ah, April the 13th-the
oxygen tank exploded and Hollywood made
a movie about it. As you probably know,
buildings tall enough to have a 13th floor
do not number it as such. Even the state
lotteries of France and Italy never sell tickets
with the number 13.
So, I suppose we shouldn't have sent our
email out then? But the awesome science
of luck overrides superstition. You make
your own luck! You are the motive power
in all your hand finds to do. You are the
creative energy that fires the furnace of
106

Ination that allows you to mold time and
umstance to your liking!
I what happened on Friday the 13th? The
hone lines were clogged with orders. The
mail s were coming in faster than we could
unt them. New clients were coming to our
Ite in droves! Considering what a client is
worth, Friday the 13th was a most lucky day.
Yes, this is how I made a million dollars on
riday the 13th!

CHAPTER NINE
How You Can
Control Time And
Circumstance
I told you that you could be taught to
through a lead shield, you'd call me
razy. If I said that you could see through
substance so strong that evel1 bullets
re unable to penetrate it, without telling
you what it was, you might still think I was
touched-that is, until I revealed to you that
the substance was bulletproof glass. "Oh,
why didn't you say so? Everyone knows you
can see through glass!" you'd reply.
Yes, we take it for granted that we can see
through glass, and we also realize that we
cannot walk through glass, any more than
if it were a block of lead. Silicon is atomic
number 14; glass is made from a mixture of
silicates. Lead is atomic number 82. That
means 82 protons in its nucleus. Remove
three, you have gold; remove more, you
have glass. If your mind, by simple emotion
and focus, can excite atoms to release
The Awesome Science of Luck
photons, is it so unreasonable to speculate
that it can affect atomic structure?
What about seeing the matrix that births
reality? Okay, now you're thinking I've really
lost it. But don't make that conclusion too
quickly. One question, please-how do you
see?
"Why, I see with my eyes, of course!"
Oh, do you? What about dreams? Do you
see them with your eyes?
"No!"
What about the things you see in your
imagination? Do you see them with your
eyes?
"No!"
Ah, but you do see them, don't you? What
happens when you're unconscious? Do you
see then?
"I don't think so."
Your faculty of sight is your consciousness,
which emits photons and creates or reveals

onsider that even a simple change in
tmospheric conditions affects the electrical
harges in the air. A simple change from
negatively charged ions to positively
harged ions induces hormonal changes in
person's body. When hormonal changes
take place, behavioral changes take place.
When behavioral changes take place, the
decision-making process is affected. When
the decision-making process is affected,
destiny is altered. Your life course will
be composed of good luck or bad luck,
depending on the subtle influences that each
day brings.
A person with a passionate purpose and an
all-consuming zest for life has a palpable
electrical field buzzing around his or her
body. When concentrated thoughts shoot
out from that field with laser-like accuracy,
clothed with excited atoms and releasing
photons of white light, do you think for a
moment that atomic structure isn't affected?
111
The Awesome Science of Luck
If science is correct in saying an electron is
1'800 times lighter than a proton, and physics
is correct in asserting that the electron
changes from a particle into a wave or ray,
then certainly the mind has the possibility
to see beyond matter. Since thoughts are
electromagnetic and electrons are fickle,
thoughts move and influence matter, which
is made up of atomic elements. I realize that
most people will find this hard to believe, yet
no one doubts the power of X-rays to see
the bones and organs within the body.
I realize that protons are much more stable
units than electrons; however, every atomic
element is altered once an electron is
displaced. What is the most powerful force
for altering atomic structure? Light!
What organ in the body is called the "Iight-
bearer"? It is the pineal gland, which is also
a magnetic organ. This light meter gland's
technical name is epiphysis cerebri, or "top
of brain." It was once believed and described
in esoteric writings that we received light
stimulation through the soft spot on the top
of our heads. Whatever the truth may be,
the pineal's role with light is uncontested. In
animals that are more intimately connected
to the web of life and more sensitive to
112
You Can Control Time And Circumstance
ubtle messages of their external
ndlngs, this gland is bigger. One thing
ndeniable-the pineal gland is part of
ur brain. If thought is electromagnetic,
n't you think that those vibrations,
cessed via the pineal gland, can make
u more connected to the external world of
Ircumstances and events?
ust like those cartoon characters who
have a light bulb appear over their heads
when they discover something new or
have a novel idea, your internal light goes
on in your pineal gland when you have
n illuminating or inspiring idea, vision, or
motivation. Like an arrow from the bow of
the mind, like a photon of light from the
sun, your thought races through space to
hit its mark. Depending on the strength of
your electromagnetic aura, your sharpened
thought is colored with your influence to
move time and circumstance into your favor.
I call this luck.
The law of attraction is at work everywhere,
affecting time and circumstance. What
science has yet to understand has been
practiced by those schooled i,n the art of
luck for centuries-just like the principle of
molecular attraction, or chemical affinity, or
113
The A wesome Science of Luck
understanding that whenever you have an
electrical field, you likewise have a magnetic
force field of attraction. That force field finds
its genesis in the vibrational ether that we
breathe and move in.
This ether is simply a finer form of matter
vibrating at a higher frequency. Matter and
force are only separated by frequency of
vibration. Luck is simply destroying an
unfavorable rate of mental vibration and
sending out finer signals toward the target
of your desire. Suddenly, you find that all
conditions serve your best interests with
perfect timing.
Matter and energy move in circular orbits.
Just as macrocosmic elements like planets
spin on their axes and revolve around suns,
and suns move around their respective
galaxies, our cells, molecules, atoms,
and subatomic particles move in their
own circular orbits. The great statement
of electromagnetic vibration is "What you
want wants you and is racing to meet you!"
This is the awesome science of luck. Luck
moves time and circumstance and places it
according to your favor.
114
Vou Can Control Time And Circumstance
revolving object has rays emanating
It. When our mental vibrations reach an
"paction rate velocity, the object is drawn
magnetized to us. It must come to us

r when of its fulfillment-that is, its time and
Ircumstance-but never doubt its coming. It
Is as certain as the law of gravity.
Why do I say it is certain? Because every
thought that is coupled and clothed with the
emotional energy of the nervous system
manifests force. In fact, every creative idea
is born of force and gives birth to force.
That force consciously or unconsciously
influences anyone who makes contact with
its vibrations.
Walk into a kitchen where the stove has just
been turned off. Aren't the heat vibrations
still detectable? Yes, of course they are.
The vibrations of thoughts and feelings also
remain in a room long after the thoughts
and feelings have passed, just like a person
walking past a parked car can tell if the
115
The Awesome Science of Luck
vehicle has just been parked by its heat
emanation.
You may now be saying to yourself, "I can't
do that. What if it's summer, when all the
cars are hot?" Yes, you can do it, just like
you learned the knack of finding parking
spaces. A recently parked car is still hotter
than a car that has been sitting in the sun.
The clues are very subtle; it requires a
certain type of consciousness, a trained
awareness, to reveal their secrets. Like
the heat around a recently parked car or a
room where a hint of perfume still lingers, a
person's mental and emotional atmosphere
lingers about them. All you need to do is to
train your awareness to .pick up on the clues
in the ether.
When you have trained yourself to sniff out
opportunity, you will be considered very
lucky by those who know you. And in fact,
according to this book's definition, you are
indeed very lucky, for you are applying
the awesome science of luck and now are
winning with great consistency.
Opportunities surround us, just like the
sights and sounds of an average day.
However, you may find yourself only paying
116
w You Can Control Time And Circumstance
tion to the things that interest you,
hlle the other sights and sounds are
locked from conscious awareness. To be
lucky means that you are always looking
r the right circumstances to confirm
your lucky hunches. The more you do
thi s, oddly, the more you actually control
time and circumstance-because you are
uperconsciously setting them up.
Your sympathetic nervous system is replete
with countless vibrational receiving stations.
Again, consider how your solar plexus is
affected by emotional vibrations. You are
constantly bombarded by a vast array of
vibrations; learning to identify and harmonize
with those beneficial to your hopes, dreams,
goals, and desires is luck.
The thought vibrations affect the nerve
ganglia and set up a peculiar vibration in the
material construct of the pineal gland, which
transforms these vibrations into thought
forms. These solidified thought forms are
tightly knit atomic structures of excited atoms
giving off photons. These building blocks
of "dreams come true" have an affinity for
other thought forms of similar vibration. Like
attracts like and multiplies itself. Remember,
"what you want wants you and is rushing to
meet you!"
117
The Awesome Science of Luck
Once you've given birth to a strong and
powerful mental force field concentrated in
a thought form, space, distance, time, and
direction matter little. All that needs to be
understood is that "it will be as it will be."
On New Year's Eve, people utter wishes for
the new year. If there is sufficient emotion
behind a person's wishes to make them
manifest later in the year, he may exclaim,
"I just got lucky!", remaining ignorant of the
awesome science of luck.
As you make a more serious study of this
science, you will manifest all the building
blocks of destiny. You will control time and
circumstance and create your own luck.

CHAPTER TEN
Creating A Lucky
Personality
While not every lucky person exhibits all
these personality traits, and everyone has a
mixed bag of them, I would encourage you
to develop as many of them as you can.
Think of this as your luck makeover.
A Relaxed Sense of Self
Lucky people don't take themselves too
seriously. They have a relaxed sense of self;
that is, they are at ease with themselves.
They don't allow trivial events to become
major storms in their lives. Remember, when
you get easily upset over things not going
as you expected, you tense up. Tension is
an enemy of intuition. Tension blinds us to
opportunities. Tension causes us to focus on
the cause of the tension, not the solutions
or the good fortune that may await us at the
next turn.
While lucky people have some of the
same bad habits and flaws that unlucky
The Awesome Science of Luck
people do, the way they deal with them
is different. They tend to be cheerfully
easy on themselves. By not bewailing and
bemoaning their inadequacies, they free
themselves up. Thus, by not taking yourself
tOQ seriously, you will be more able to find
good fortune in your life.
Having A Sense Of Humor
Humorous people see the world differently
from non-humorous people, and they tend to
have better luck precisely because of their
different viewpoint. Finding good fortune is
much like an artist's trick when a painting
just isn't right; the artist simply holds the
painting up to a mirror. By looking at it from
a different perspective, the needed changes
are easily identified. I've known many fine
artists with great senses of humor. When
you are able to look at your life from the
pinnacle of detachment, you're liable to
start chuckling. This sense of personal
playfulness is a ticket to good fortune. Luck
requires that you see the world differently.
Even lottery winners see themselves as
winners despite almost impossible odds.
Even people who gamble-at least those
who possess a sunny disposition-have the
122
Creating A Lucky Personality
bility to laugh off their losses until they hit
the jackpot. Have you ever met a gambler
who didn't expect to win? Of course, not
veryone wins, but by playing the card of
humor, you might increase your luck.
Positive Expectation
A feeling of optimism is a prerequisite for
good fortune. I believe your outer world
is the material manifestation of your inner
world, a reflection of your honest internal
expectations. Those expectations form your
attitude, which determines your behavior
and thus your choices. Lucky people have
extremely high levels of positive expectation,
which filters down through attitude into
choice. Right choices result in luck. After all,
there is still the possibility of making a wrong
choice-or is there?
Once, as a young salesman, I played a little
game. I would go down a street and pick
out the homes that would buy my product.
I would tally up my commissions to see
what I was about to earn, then knock at the
door with an uncanny knowing-a positive
expectation, if you will-that I had already
sold the customer. Guess what? I had. All I
had to do was get their autographs on the
123
The Awesome Science of Luck
approval line of the contract, which they
happily gave me.
The numbers of contracts I handed in
created a sensation with the company I
worked for. The company was located just
outside Washington, D.C., in Maryland,
and one of the owners was a prominent
contributor to political campaigns. My boss
said he wanted to reward me for my sales;
he said he couldn't understand my success
and declared I had to be the luckiest person
he'd ever met. Actually, this was the scheme
he had in mind.
First, he had his private limousine pick me
up and bring me to his luxurious home.
In the living room sat several well-known
politicians. After the introductions and small
talk were over, my boss said we would be
going to the clubhouse at the Charlestown
Racetrack for the evening. Then, he
surprised everyone by throwing a huge roll
of bills at me.
"What's this for?" I asked.
"For you to bet with!" he answered.
I threw the bills back to him. "I don't gamble."
124
Creating A Lucky Personality
replied, "You probably gamble more than
u know."
I left it at that. As we all got into the limo, I
was having difficulty finding a place to put
the money, so he gave me a paper bag.
We sat in the opulent private clubhouse,
and they asked me to pick the horses. My
sense of positive expectation was so strong
that evening that its electricity was affecting
everyone in the room. It was one of the
luckiest times I've ever spent at a racetrack.
I picked the horse, they placed the bet and
determined the amount. Every time my
horse won, the bag got bigger and their
wallets got fatter. At that time in my life, I'd
never seen so much money!
The evening ended, and a few days later,
I quit and moved out west. Soon, the
money was gone, but the knowledge of my
awesome inner potential had taken root in
my young life. It would be decades before
I unraveled the awesome science of luck-
how you can win consistently.
You see, your subconscious mind makes
everything you say and do consistent
with your sense of expectation. Your
125
The Awesome Science of Luck
subconscious mind is said to operate 30,000
times faster than your conscious mind.
When your subconscious mind rolls up three
cherries and you hit the jackpot, there is a
jolt of nerve force that tells you you've just
won. This is such a strong sense of positive
expectation that you are physically moved
by your correct choice.
Once, when I first got interested in keeping
honeybees, a friend and myself went to a
beekeepers' meeting. When we walked in,
we were told that they were holding a raffle
for some beekeeping equipment. The lady
said, "Just reach into the basket and pull out
a ticket." As I reached into the basket and
grabbed a ticket, I felt a mi ld electrical tingle
in my fingers.
Later, when it was time for the drawing of the
lucky number, I looked my friend in the eye
and said "I just won!" as the man announced
my number. My conscious mind had clearly
identified my desire, and my subconscious
mind identified the winning ticket. My
positive expectation was so free of doubt
that the winning ticket carried an actual
electrical charge. If you observe this law of
luck in action, you'll see that it's not what you
126
Creating A Lucky Personality
want, but what you expect that becomes a
reality.
They Believe They Live A Charmed Life
xpectation and belief are twins. Lucky
people believe they live charmed lives, and
as they believe, so it is for them. Consider
this: if someone tells you that you're
charming, what does that really mean?
If you happened to be a young girl in 14th-
century England, the inquisitors might take
you to the torture chamber if you were
"charming" people. Not good luck at all!
"Charm" can mean an incantation of magical
power that wards off evil or bad luck. That's
actually why women originally wore charm
bracelets-to ward off unlucky and harmful
happenings.
When I discovered this, I had to laugh about
"Prince Charming" as being one lucky guy.
In any case, to be a charming person means
you are one lucky person who is always
untouched by tragedy and misfortune.
Let me ask you a question: Do you think it
is better to believe you are living a charmed
life or an uncharmed life? As odd as it may
127
The Awesome Science of Luck
Attention is the mother of creation. What
you pay attention to grows. Just looking for
four-leaf clovers will draw you to them, and
suddenly you're sitting in a field filled with
them. Attention is the mother of creation, and
gratitude is the reason good things happen.
Generosity
The most successful people I know are the
most generous. Many people falsely believe
that success is luck without realizing that
success is actually the applied science of
luck. Generosity is a major component of
becoming lucky. Why? Because helping
other people get what they want is the
premise upon which all success rests,.
A generous soul is a cheerful soul, and
cheerful people find it easier to be lucky.
The cosmic law has yet to change: you
must give in order to receive. It doesn't
matter what you give, be it advice, goods, or
services-being good to others triggers the
law of reciprocity. It is a mutual exchange
of energy, and my friend, it's all an energy
game. That's why your energy generators
must be pumping out positive vibrations at
all times. Positive vibrations are the etheric
counterpart to luck, and generosity is a very
130
Creating A Lucky Personality
powerful positive vibration that returns to you
many times over.
A number of years ago, we called a glass
company to have some mirrors installed.
The man the company sent out was very
hardworking and conscientious; I liked
him. So I asked him, "What if you could do
anything in the world and you knew you
would not fail? What would you do?"
"Why, I'd go into business for myself," he
said.
"Well, why haven't you?" I asked.
He said that he didn't know how to go about
getting customers.
"What if that's not a problem? Is there
anything else preventing you from starting
your own business?"
After a thoughtful moment, he said, "No."
"Good! I'll help you get started, " I said. "I
know a contractor who is building a number
of new homes and could use your services.
I'll give him a call as soon as you're ready."
131
The Awesome Science of Luck
That was over 12 years ago. About two or
three years ago, I wanted to glass in a porch
that I had constructed, so I was looking for
some double-pane insulated patio glass
doors, and I called that glass man to buy
some.
"How many do you need?" he asked.
I told him around a dozen.
"Can you use more if I get you the right
price?"
"Well, yes, I have a number of projects I'd
like to have some for," I said. "My garden
cold frames, for example."
"I'll be up tomorrow with the glass," he said.
The next day, at my house, he unloaded 35
panels of 3' x 6' 8" glass. After he finished, I
asked what lowed him.
"Well, the gas for the truck ... 1'1i take ten
dollars," he said.
"And for the windows?" I queried.
132
Creating A Lucky Personality
"Peter, I really got lucky on these. Your price
is zero."
My attitude of gratitude once again gave
birth to luck!
A Strong Sense Of Curiosity
Did you ever find a curious object in an
antique shop and want to find out all about
it? Immediately, your mind imagined the
old house where the grandfather clock sat
and the people who lived there. Or, holding
that odd knick-knack in your hands, you
attempted to find out what it was and found
your mind racing back in time, filling you with
impressions.
The original meaning of the word "curio"
has to do with the meaning of an object of
interest. It means you're inquisitive about
it. Once, I was doing a seminar in Colorado
and a lady handed me an old pocket watch.
"Oh," I blurted out, "it's from your grandfather
in Texas!" She was just as shocked as I
was. I had no way of knowing that, but as I
handled the old timepiece, coupled with my
strong sense of curiosity, I received strong
impressions that turned out to be correct.
133
The Awesome Science of Luck
If you have a strong sense of curiosity, you
most likely have developed a latent form of
clairvoyant psychometry. I've known antique
dealers who seemed to have a knack of
knowing things about objects that they
couldn't possibly have known. Lucky people
have the ability to process impressions that
other people don't. Like bloodhounds with
their n,?ses to the ground, they locate what
may appear impossible to find. A hound has
an incredible sense of curiosity, just like a
lucky person.
They find good fortune in the most unlikely
places-like gold doubloons washing up on
a Fort Lauderdale beach, or finding a pirate's
treasure chest in the surf of an out island in
the Bahamas. They're just lucky, I guess!
Open To New Experiences
All lucky people share this common
thread-they are open to new experiences.
Since they have less fear, they have less
tension. When a person experiences less
tension, the nervous system finds it easier to
process impressions and vibrations, making
that person more confident and more
adventurous.
134
Creating A Lucky Personality
Most people simply die by the inch,
uffocating in cocoons of fear and
Isapproval. Slowly, slowly, there is no need
f perceptive abilities as consciousness
wanes. Vital forces drain out of a soul as .
the fear of the unknown grows stronger. The
yes dim as the body becomes fused and
frozen. Bad luck increases as visits to the
hospital become more regular. Vital force
and luck are then buried together.
However, to those who are alive, truly alive,
with an enthusiasm for existence, luck
grows stronger and stronger as each new
adventure yields its pot of gold. With each
new experience, they become luckier and
luckier. They never look behind, only forward
to their bright and luminous futures.
Immune To Rejection
The luckiest people I know are unaffected .
by the past and immune to rejection. '
They are probably the wealthiest people
I know, as well. There are always some
disenfranchised souls who will be ready
to rain on your parade, if you let them;
fearful little creatures whose only joy in life
is tearing others down and ripping up their
dreams. Oh, and don't let me forget their
135
The Awesome Science of Luck
most audacious act of rebellion-blowing
their car horns in a tunnel. All courageous
and lucky souls must deal with the people
in the dark who never venture beyond the
fence of chance.
"Why don't you get a real job? I know
the plant foreman, we're like this. I could
probably put in a good word for you if you
quit reading them stupid books. Why, you
think you're gonna get rich, don't you?" he
said to me. .
''I'm already rich," I replied as I walked away
from the idiot.
Lucky people are drawn to lucky people who
see unlimited possibilities. Lucky people
aren't looking for jobs, they are looking for
opportunities that lead to lucky encounters.
Since they've already traveled through the
past, they need not go there again. The
future looms bright as they sail off, immune
to the discursive rejection of fearful and timid
souls who barely have courage enough to
crawl out of their holes to curse.
Oh, how lucky are the people who are
immune to rejection! They know that good
136
Creating A Lucky Personality
will smile as long as they go forward
light of luminous possibilities.
Listen To Intuition
t is intuition? It is a teaching from
Ide, an "in-tutor," so to speak. How is
ne taught internally? First, by accumulated
xperiences, and secondly, by the vast store
knowledge and impressions you retain
n a subconscious level. Every time you
make a decision that works out well for you,
you experience a certain electromagnetic
vibration. Every time you make a decision
that does not work out well for you, you feel
different type of vibration.
Every single decision you make is colored
by your accumulated experience and
subconscious impressions. Emotion is a
by-product of the conclusions y.ou draw
about an experience or the sum total of
your education. Thus, everything you look
at harmonizes with a past conclusion. That
object and your experience, conclusions,
and education create a subtle field of
influence that speaks to you with an
electromagnetic sensation. All you have
to do is determine whether the vibration
137
The Awesome Science of Luck
is associated with negative or positive
outcomes.
Once you've been able to determine what
you are feeling-that is, identify it as positive
or negative-you'll know the outcome before
deciding to act on it or not. The secret to
good luck is always acting on the vibrations
that you associate with good things
happening to you.
Don't misunderstand me-I'm not
encouraging you to base your actions on
whim, impulse, or caprice. Intuition is the
lightning bolt of reason. Authentic intuition
that leads to good luck is based upon
the instantaneous sorting of harmonizing
experiences, conClusions, and facts stored
in the cerebral cortex. I've observed that
the more you know about a topic, the more
intuitive you become in that particular field.
Lucky people are quickly able to identify
what they are feeling and place that vibration
into its correct category. Remember, your
emotions are formed from conclusions
based on past experiences. There is a
difference between an emotional vibration
and an accurate intuitive vibration. The
emotional energy, while quite helpful in
138
Creating A Lucky Personality
Istlng your creative visualizations, is
t the same as the energy you feel from
tuition. It is important to be able to define
Is difference. Emotional decisions often
ult in bad luck, while intuitive decisions
ult in good luck.
A couple of days ago, my wife needed to
t some suet for the woodpeckers we feed
nd a few other items. The parking lot of the
discount store was packed. Long lines of
rs were circling like vultures around the
lot. Certainly, not at all my favorite place to
be. In fact, I almost always sit in the car and
meditate while my wife shops. She is like me
and can't wait to get out of there and back to
our tranquil environment at home.
After sitting behind other cars searching
for a parking spot, I asked, "Where's my
spot?" Just then, a car parked in the first
space closest to the entrance pulled out.
"Hmm ... naturally it's just the way it is for
lucky people!" I mused as I pulled in. There
must have been a million people in the
store-at least that was the impression. I
waited and waited. Finally, I did something I
don't usually do-I went in. Standing there
looking at the maze of people, I could see
how easily a child could get lost.
139
r
The Awesome Science of Luck
Naturally, I knew where my wife was going.
I also knew where to find the section of the
store with the birdseed, which would have
been the most logical place to begin my
search. Instead, I stood still at the front of
the store and mentally asked, "Where is
she?" Suddenly, an image of copy paper
flashed on my mental screen. This picture
and its associated vibratory sensation were
different from the vibration you get with
memory or emotion. It was also different
than the sensation that accompanies the
solution to a mathematical problem. This
vibration was more like a first impression
that came from the outside; oh yes, it felt like
an invisible hand had just struck my internal
tuning fork, harmonizing my vibration and
leading me like a scent hound.
I walked directly and unerringly to my wife,
who was in the copy paper aisle. She looked
a bit surprised. "How did you find me here?
Oh, never mind."
Now, if we can do this with unimportant
things like parking spaces and finding
someone in a crowded store, what else can
this talent be used for? How about applying
it to ~ o m e of the major decisions that can
aJter your entire life and destiny? Lucky

Strong Sense of Serendipity
re is an old fairy tale called "The Three
Inces of Serendip." Serendip was the
rmer name of the country south of India,
Iso called Ceylon, and now Sri Lanka. In
he story, the three princes were always
making discoveries of things they weren't
onsciously looking for. At times they used
their keen perceptions; at other times, it
ppeared that their discoveries were merely
ccidents. You could say that the three
princes were quite lucky.
All lucky people have a strong sense of
serendipity. I'll give you a glimpse of how
serendipity works. (This account was
included in a book written about me by my
friends called The Magic Man.)
While we were building our present
residence, a young man called Roy
141
The Awesome Science of Luck
helped us with the framing. Roy was quite
industrious and hardworking. One day I
asked him, "Roy, if you could have anything
in the whole world just magically appear,
what would it be?"
Without a moment's hesitation, he blurted
out, "Tools! I love tools!"
I guess I wasn't too surprised that his
answer was so immediate. The very next
morning, on his way to work, he found a
new toolbox sitting in the middle of a country
road. It was full of tools! Serendipity? He
accused me of placing it in the road by his
house-but I didn't. He was just lucky.
Like I said, lucky people have a strong sense
of serendipity. They expect good things to
happen, and you know what? You get what
you set! Set up the expectation of fortuitous
events every day, and they will happen every
day, every way, and everywhere!
Once, while we were traveling with another
couple, Hal and Mindy, my wife and I told
them to pick a motel. They said, "You pick
one." We were in Nag's Head, NC, a resort
town on one of the beaches of the outer
banks. Since they all insisted that I pick

cognized you from one of your books and
Id my dad," she said. Her father, the head
rtner in a Washington, D.C. law firm, paid
r our rooms and arranged for free dinners
t the best restaurant in town. What a lucky
tring of events, considering that I chose one
ut of dozens of motels and we hadn't even
pl anned to end up in Nag's Head ourselves!
But I always expect good surprises.
This story is by far no exception. Some
years ago, we were given free airline tickets.
Ann and I hadn't been anywhere in years, so
we accepted. We flew to Montana, intending
to tour Glacier National Park, and stayed
at one of the nicest lodges above Whitefish
Lake on Big Mountain. The in-season rate
for the room was around $250 per night.
143
The Awesome Science of Luck
Once we were settled in, we went to the
restaurant for a salad. Our waiter, however,
was perplexed that all we wanted was some
raw veggies in a bowl. We had a short,
but pleasant conversation about diet. After
bringing us the bill, he was shocked at the
generosity of the gratuity. He asked if we
would wait a moment and soon returned with
the restaurant owner. "Is there something
wrong?" I asked.
"No, it's just that we would like to do
something nice for you. The salads are on
the house! Furthermore, here are some free
tickets for the ski lift and a couple of tickets
for tomorrow night's concert," the owner
said. What luck!
After five glorious days enjoying some of
the most beautiful country in the nation, we
checked out of our suite. When the checkout
clerk handed us our bill, I exclaimed,
"Something's wrong with this! This is only
for one day, when in fact we've stayed five
days."
"Mr. Ragnar, this bill is correct," the clerk
said. "Management has taken care of the
rest. They asked me to wish you a safe trip
and to please come see us again."

A Relaxed Sense of Urgency
Two words I really like are "alacrity" and
"celerity." They are close in meaning;
"alacrity" is a cheerful readiness, while
"celerity" refers to the speed with which
you accomplish work. There is an inner
sense of eagerness that has a certain
spontaneous quality. Lucky people have a
hearty willingness and promptness to act on
opportunity.
I have seen so many people who
continuously experience bad luck be slothful,
slow to act, and even just mentally dull as
brilliant, luminous, and lucky breaks pass
them by. I confess, there are times when
145
The Awesome Science of Luck
I'd like to kick them in the butt-until I
remember that people with bad luck aren't
meant to win. That is, until they begin to
apply the awesome science of luck in their
lives.
This is why these two words, "alacrity' and
"celerity," are so important. They imply
a sense of urgency. But luck requires
a relaxed sense of urgency. This is the
playfulness all truly lucky people exhibit.
They are passionate about winning, but they
realize that tension is the enemy of luck.
Opportunities are fickle and fleeting. They
are almost etheric. In a relaxed state, they
can be coaxed and attracted to you. Much
like rubbing a balloon on your shirt to create
a magnetic field and then sticking it on
the wall or ceiling, opportunities must be
magnetized. You can't let a minute go by;
you must act on them before the wind takes
your balloon of luck away from you.
The relaxed mental state allows you to see
the flimsy, cobweb-like connections between
you and the good luck you seek. But, once
you see your lucky opportunity, not even
a single second can be wasted. Celerity
stresses promptness and swiftness, and

portunity is called luck!

beaten you to the prize. However, now that
you're armed with the awesome science of
luck, your luck is about to change forever!
Cultivate Contacts
According to the research found in the
bestselling book The Anatomy of Buzz,
we are only five to six people removed
from anyone we want to contact in the
whole world. Who is it that you would like
to contact, and how can that individual
assist you in creating a lucky break? Like I
said, lucky people cultivate contacts. Lucky
people are skilled at making and cultivating
contacts with the very people who can make
their dreams come true.
Whom do you want to know, and for what
reason? What can you personally bring to
the table? How can you help others increase
their luck? I have a saying I live by, "Help
enough other people get what they want and
you can ask the universe for anything your
heart desires!"
Years ago, I read an article about the
famous philanthropist Percy Ross. I called
his secretary and left a message. A few
minutes later, Percy returned my call. Our
148

IIties resonated. Soon, as the weeks
onths passed, Percy asked me to
him give away some of his wealth. Our
9 friendship resulted in an exciting
-uan'ure that you can read about in my
he Luminous Life: How to Shine Like
I said, we are only five or six people
from anyone we want to meet. In the
of Percy and me, it was only one-his
"''''retary. One day, a rather humorous
nt took place. Percy said he wanted to
troduce me to a good friend of his, Donald
rump. To which I replied, "Who's Donald
rump?" Well, like I said, we are only a few
ople away from anyone we choose to
meet.
Lucky people form a network of contacts
that can instantly increase their iuck. When I
decided to expand Roaring Lion Publishing
and produce videos and DVDs, I asked my
new partner Tony how we were going to
edit and produce our first video collection.
"Oh, that's no problem," he said. "My brother
works for a major television station and does
that for a living!" Duh! Lucky people cultivate
contacts.

The Awesome Science of Luck
When our first web designer decided to
move up to other opportunities, he applied
. for a position with a major Milwaukee
newspaper. He went into the office and
noticed that the personnel manager had my
prosperity poster on the wall behind him.
The manager asked, "So what websites
have you designed?"
He stammered, "The site you ordered that
poster from!" Yes, he did get the job.
I could tell you so many stories of incredible
luck that it would fill volumes. The point
is this: luck creates luck. When you start
winning, you will continue winning until you
doubt the process.
With this book in your hand, you are holding
a magical charm. These words, these
stories, these experiences contain a power
that can make you one of the luckiest people
alive. Why? Because you've just cultivated a

CHAPTER ELEVEN
Why These Things
enerate Bad Luck
m sure you are familiar with some of these
mmon superstitions. A black cat crossing
ur path, breaking a mirror, stepping on
vement cracks, walking under a ladder,
he number thirteen, and many other things
re thought to be unlucky. Of the above five,
three actually can bring you bad luck and
two of them are neutral. You've probably
Iready guessed which three things are
obviously unlucky.
You can get a nasty cut from broken glass.
If someone is on a ladder with a bucket of
paint, you could get splattered with it. If the
pavement happens to be slightly uneven,
you could trip and fall. From this point
of view, avoiding these situations is not
superstitious, but actually a way of insuring
good luck. Good luck is noticing; bad luck
is not noticing. Everything matters and has
either a beneficial auspicious effect or a
negative inauspicious effect.
The Awesome Science of Luck
There is an ancient Chinese practice that
is considered merely folk superstition by
most people. It is called (eng shui. Feng
shui identifies some things as lucky and
other things as unlucky. Even in our Western
culture, the common superstitions listed
above can result in avoiding bad luck, for the
obvious reasons just presented. However,
can certain items bring good luck while other
items bring bad luck? Is there any science
behind feng shui, or is it just an unfounded
grouping of various superstitions?
Let's examine some common beliefs to
find out if they are science or superstition.
I'm certain you're about to be surprised.
There are plants that are believed to bring
you good luck and others that are bel ieved
to be bad luck. Here is an example: the
cactus is said to bring bad luck, especially
in your home, because cacti have sharp
needles pointing at you. The Chinese
call this energy shar chi, or secret poison
arrows hidden in your surroundings. You
may not be consciously aware of what you
feel from a cactus plant, but you certainly
take care not to brush up against it. The
subtle unconscious influence of this caution
actually does wear away at your comfort
level, creating a mild stress. As you add
154

on layer of unlucky items, their unseen
ces bring bad luck.
LII'8WI Se, sickly or dead-looking plants signal
Isfortune. Not long ago, Ann and I visited a
Ith food store. There was a plant called
chlumbergera, which is usually quite
ucculent and beautiful. Sadly, it hadn't
n watered, as Ann observed when she
ressed her fingers against the dry soil. The
roprietor admitted neglecting the plant.
As we left the shop, I told Ann that it was a
very inauspicious sign; sickly plants emit a
powerful negative energy of loss.
The shop owner also had a really sweet pug
dog that would lie on the floor near the plant.
Not good, I thought. The next time we visited
the store, I asked where the cute little dog
was. The owner sadly admitted to running
over the little dog-it was dead. Now, are
you getting the picture of future events?
Yes, the plant was also dead. The next time
we went by the shop, the shelves were
empty and the bui lding vacant. It went out of
business.
Now, I'm not saying the plant killed the dog
and the business. Neglect killed the dog and
the business; the plant was simply begging
155
The Awesome Science of Luck
the owner to notice the upcoming bad luck.
Dead-looking plants generate bad luck!
The leaves of a schlumbergera that is well
tended are healthy, green and succulent.
This type of plant is said to bring good
luck and especially good fortune. Healthy,
succulent plants are said to bring wealth.
During the lunar new year, fake gold and
silver ingots are displayed in Chinese
homes to draw prosperity. Even coins are
treated as good luck symbols. Why do you
suppose this practice appears to work?
Because when you focus on prosperity, you
magnetize prosperity.
I've been very lucky in the stock market. I
keep records of all my stock purchases in
a large looseleaf binder; under the cover of
the binder, I've inserted pictures of gold and
silver ingots. Is there any relationship at all?
I have another binder for the records of a
gold and silver minting company I started in
the mid-1990s. After we'd been in business
a few years, the price of gold had declined
a bit, and my partner and I were looking at
ways to increase our prosperity, so I inserted
a photograph of 500 newly minted one-
ounce gold avalons into the plastic cover of
156
Why These Things Generate Bad Luck
book. Then I did the visualization I've
t you in this book. What happened? I
ved an unexpected call from a friend
said she had a friend who wanted to
y some gold from us, and would I speak
Ith her. Now, bear in mind, this is two days
r inserting the photograph and doing the
Isualization. This stranger then said that
he wanted to buy one million dollars worth
f gold! Naturally, I was happy to accept her
rder.
0, it is very lucky to have symbols of
prosperity around you. But what kind of
luck do you think you'll generate by having
pile of unpaid bills on your desk? They
absolutely vibrate with bad luck! Any bill
you receive and do not pay immediately
becomes a bad luck generator!
Any pictures that indicate loss-this includes
items from others, as well as photographs
of deceased relatives-generate bad luck.
This is also why cemeteries are considered
unlucky. Any symbol of loss must be avoided
at all cost.
Once, I went into a beautiful old mission in
Arizona. It was called the White Dove of
the Desert. Pictures of it show a glistening
157
The Awesome Science of Luck
white structure with blue mountains behind
it, very pretty. However, inside the chapel,
my stomach began churning and a sickening
feeling overcame me. The hideous paintings
of torture and sadness made me realize I
was in a cursed church. Later, I learned that
it was built by enslaved Native Americans
and their dead remains littered the premises.
Bad luck indeed!
Rather than having pictures of the dead
that draw bad luck and program you for a
shortened life, follow a common feng shui
practice; get a turtle, or at least a symbol of
one. The turtle reminds you to slow down
and live a long and prosperous life. The
turtle is a symbol of extreme good luck!
According to feng shui, sharp-pointed,
angular, arrow, or spear-like shapes should
be avoided, since they bring bad luck. If you
muscle-test various shapes, you'll notice that
these weaken you-so there is a science
behind the superstition.
Take a photo of soldiers with their rifles
raised and muscle test that. It is pretty
obvious that it will be weakening. Crosses
are always likewise weakening. If a palm
reader notices a lot of small crosses on your

se believe that sharp edges, protruding

ches, and in some cases, unexpected

kiliful use of mirrors, you can send these
Ison arrows back.
ne reason you're apt to see screens and
lants in a feng shui home is that they block
harp edges. And again, mirrors reflect
the arrows back. Mirrors in a home can
bring good luck and avert bad luck; mirrors
xpand a home, and when symbols of
prosperity are reflected, they are multiplied,
leading to abundance. However, it is
considered bad luck to reflect the main
door of a home or to have a bathroom door
reflected in a mirror. Additionally, it is not
good to have a bedroom located under a
toi let.
Since healthy plants emit life force, a
mi rror reflecting them multiplies that force.
I read about an electrical engineer, Henry
Monteith, who developed a machine that
measured the vibrations given off by plants.
Dead leaves gave off no visible colors when
photographed, while live leaves shimmered
in a luminous radiance. Plants' healthy self-
159
The Awesome Science of Luck
emissions reflected by a mirror can charge
your home with a photonic blessing, while a
dead plant reflected can curse your home.
Just as plants respond to the wavelengths
of music, they respond to the energy of the
people around them. Once, a visiting couple
who were experiencing domestic difficulties
were arguing at our house. Situated right
behind them, we had several beautiful
plants. The next day, after the couple had
gone, the plants' leaves had turned brown.
If people can be bad luck for plants, what
happens to you if you associate with them?
Their bad luck rubs off on you.
At a music shop I frequent, one day the
owner complained to me about a certain
negative personality who would come in.
Every time he played a guitar, the strings
would turn black and have to be replaced.
The owner asked if the man had a curse. I
replied, "What do you think? Is it good luck
for him to come in, or is it bad luck to have to
replace the strings?"
To avoid generating bad luck in a shop, it
is believed that the proper placement of
wind chimes will protect the business from
the poison arrows, be they physically sharp

bine that with mirrors so they can see

Ir bad luck.
."ntner bad luck generator is the use of
words. Words must be watched, well
tDoken, and clearly pronounced. If you
n't be accurate in the .words you choose,
u can't be precise in your thinking.
autiful words have beautiful sounds that
nerate good luck. Ugly words have sharp
dges and disrupt the environment with
d vibrations, which generate bad luck.
Remember, we fill our homes and places of
business with our thoughts. These thoughts
re like an invisible smoke that others inhale,
changing the environment and emotional
climate.
A good example is the word "hate," which
creates an ugly thought form that floats in
the air, much like the vibration of striking
a gong continues to reverberate. You also
generate bad luck when you come to the
dinner table angry or worried. The friction of
irritation on your vibrational body can cause
internal inflammation, which can lead to a
most unlucky disease.
161
The Awesome Science of Luck
Irritability is another luck poison. When
there is a terrible storm, it is the wind that
first moves the waves. The storm may not
last long, but the turbulence of the waves
will continue. Even when we have forgotten
how that one driver cut us off in traffic, the
waves of irritation may still be churning up to
48 hours later, disrupting the waves of good
luck and attracting bad luck.
In my writing nook, the mirrors in front of
me allow me the freedom of bouncing ideas
around until I get the right one to present
to you. The entire wall where my dining
room table is situated has floor-to-ceiling
mirrors so that our nutritious meals and their
abundance are reflected and multiplied.
Prosperity and good fortune are everywhere.
It's really about what you see and feel ,
both consciously and unconsciously, and
your interpretation of those stimuli. Even
unpleasant happenings can be turned
around. Psychologists call this "counter-
factual thinking." As an example, when I fell
off a 300-foot building and landed safely, I
didn't see it as unlucky; I focused on how
lucky I was to land on a metal bU9ket and
walk away unscathed. Someone else might
focus on how they unluckily happened to

member, in this universe, nothing is at
t; everything is vibrating. Every particle
'f matter, even .the most subtle film of
he ethers, is but an assigned degree of
vibration. It is believed by some that the
vibration of spirit has such an infinite rate of
Intensity that it appears at rest. This is much
like the spokes of a wheel spinning so fast
that the wh.eel appears sti ll. As you increase
your personal vibrations, your antenna goes
up- that is, you become more conscious of
how everything feels.
In a rudimentary sense, this can be likened
to a person learning to distinguish E from
middle C on a musical scale. Once you've
trai ned your ear, it's easy. All you're doing
is identifying vibrations; matter, energy, and
mind are simply different notes on the scale.
163
The Awesome Science of Luck
As with music, when.the combinations of
vibrations become discordant, this "noise"
is harmful to living things, be they people or
plants. Bad luck is the result of continuous
exposure to vibrational noise. The
arrangement and composition of the things
in your life will determine your luck.
Vibrational noise or bad luck can be felt just
like you can feel changes in the weather.
In fact, it can literally change the weather.
This isn't some superstitious quirk you may
think I have-this is all about the science of
luck. Both good luck and bad luck are not
accidents, but results of cosmic law.
Here is an example of how the law of bad
luck works. Some years ago, on Christmas
Eve, poachers killed a bear we had known
for 13 years. He was shot while he was
in a huge oak tree. I had named the bear
"Pirate," for reasons you might imagine
appropriate. Are you already picking up .
clues of impending doom? He didn't fall out
of the tree. Seeing his silhouette hanging
there made you think of a crucifixion.
A few days later, I accompanied two state
wildlife officers to the top of the ridge where
the old oak stood. They wanted to see if any

branches furiously came down, blocking my
new direction. I began crawling under them,
worried about the two officers.
I finally made it back to my property to
anxiously wait. As quickly as it started,
the storm subsided and stopped. The two
officers emerged from the thicket, and one
officer said, "What the hell was that?"
More sober in my reply, I said, "You thought
I was kidding about Pirate's curse, didn't
you?"
"We'll pick a better day to climb that tree, " he
answered. They never came back.
A week later, I ran into one of the suspects.
I believed the poachers had used his dogs
to tree the big old bear. "How're your dogs
doing?" I asked. He didn't know we knew
he was a suspect, and since folks knew
he raised hunting dogs, it wasn't a strange
question.
"I've had some real bad luck," he said. "My
best dog got run over and killed by a car,
and my second-best dog just dropped dead

with the laws of life, no harm can come to
you. When you are not-when you dwell at
the lower planes of vibrational noise-bad
luck is the only recourse the universe can

that mind is matter, you hold the keys to
changing the universe. It has been stated,
"The spirit is like a stiff wind." Harmonize
your spirit with the higher vibrations of the
spirit wind for the ultimate blessing.
This is when your mind becomes like a

They also say that good feng shui causes

The point is this: there is an unconscious
realm that we collectively share. This
substratum of consciousness contains an
infinite flow of influences. You can probably
understand it more by holding your hands
10 to 12 inches apart with your palms facing
each other. As you continue to hold your
position, very slowly move your hands closer
and further apart. If you've never done this
before, you may be surprised to feel a strong
magnetic attraction. Pull your hands further
apart, and if you're really paying attention,
you'll feel the energy snap back to your
hands as this invisible substance breaks
its grip. This substance is the energy of
influence.
While at first you might not see anything
between your hands, with practice, you'll
begin to see what looks like heat radiation,
like you see over a hot stove. As you play
with this exercise, you'll notice that the
invisible substance is quite elastic and
magnetically sticky. With advanced practice,
you'll notice that there are finer and more
subtle layers of this etheric substance. What
if you could take a little ball of it and put a

below your navel.
As you inhale from your third eye, the
inhalation is like a vacuum tube drawing
energy from the point below the navel, up

electrical tingle with each concentrated
breath.
What you have created is an energy orbit.
Just like the spinning of a turbine creates
electricity, the orbit of this electricity within
your body begins to grow in voltage. Do ten
full breath orbits before going to the next
step.
The next step is to hold your energy ball
as if it were a magical looking glass. Your
ball will begin to look like a luminous ball of
white mist. In the center of this glowing fog,
close your eyes and see a mental picture of
your desired object or condition. It can be

Well, if you've read this far, you already have
some idea about how to court Lady Luck.
You also realize, only too painfully, how
many lose on their bets. Some people throw
caution to the winds and desperately attempt
to twist the arm of the maiden of luck. This is
much like attempting to grab hold of a smoke
ring; the lady simply slips away and begins
to avoid you forever.
You must woo Lady Luck as you would a
lover. You must attract, captivate, and charm
her if she is to release her favors. Just like
you see your lover in your mind's eye, you
must see the favorable conditions unfolding
in all their sensory detail. Your laser-like
imagination must project vivid, lifelike
pictures in your mind-pictures that are real
enough to give birth to reality.
Every sign of favor must be noticed: the new
perfume she dabbed behind her ear, her
elusive smile, the way she paused to look
at you as she bent forward, the playful flip
of her hair, the manner in which she walked
away from you that beckoned you to follow.
Since Lady Luck has charmed you, you
must captivate her also.
