The Sheriffs Office today initiated Energy Conservation improvements at the County Correctional Facility. The project which is a joint venture with NYSERDA, has a total cost of $1.3 million. NYSERDA will rebate Albany County $351,000.00 which leaves Albany County investing one million dollars into the Correctional Facility. The improvements consist of changing all the light fixtures in the building as well as replace valves and sensors on all the heating and cooling equipment. The project will last 8-10 months, and is expected to pay for itself in four years. After the four years the County will save $225,000.00 annually. The project was a budgeted project. I would like to thank the Legislature for approving the resolution to move forward on this project. This not only will save the taxpayers $250,000 annually after four years, but will conserve energy as well. Commented Sheriff Apple
