To guarantee a successful installation, before you start installing DraftSight, its important that you review your system requirements,understandadministrativepermissionrequirements,andaddressthepointsreferencedbelow.

1.1PreparingforInstallation

1.1.AReviewSystemRequirements
CheckifthecomputeronwhichyouaregoingtoinstallDraftSightmeetsthesystemrequirements.Notmeetingthesystem requirements might originate in the future performance problems, and/or errors, either when using DraftSight or your OperatingSystem.Formoreinformationonthesystemrequirements,seeSystemRequirements(page22).

1.1.BAdministrativePermissionsRequirements
WerecommendthattheDraftSightinstallationandactivation,isperformedbyauserwithadministratorpermissions.You donotneedtohavedomainadministrativepermissions.Ifyouareinstallinginanetworkbasedcomputer,orifindoubt, werecommendyoucheckwithyourlocalnetworkadministratorifyouhavepermissionstodoso.TorunDraftSight,you wontneedadministratorpermissions.Youcanruntheprogramasastandarduserwithlimitedpermissions.

1.1.CDealingwithSecuritySoftware
Notethatantivirusprogramssometimescanbeanobstacletosoftwareinstallationandactivation,soyoumaywantto disableanyantivirusprotectionyouhaverunningonyoursystem.AddDraftSighttotheantivirustrustedprogramslist, www.draftsight.com to the trusted websites list, and allow it through any active firewall. If you experience problems whenperformingtheDraftSightactivation,pleaserefertothetroubleshootingsectioninthisguide,ortotheInstallation andActivationGuideblogpostintheDraftSightCommunity(https://swym.3ds.com/#post:1291).

1.1.DHowtoAvoidDataLossDuringInstallation
TheDraftSightinstallationprocessmaystopifsomeapplicationsarerunning.Closeallapplicationstoavoidpossibledata lossorcorruption.Shutdownalltheunnecessaryprogramsthatarerunninginyoursystemtray.Usuallyifyourightclick aniconwithyourmouseyou'llgetamenuthathelpsyoutoexitthesoftware. IfyouareusingcustomizationfileswithinDraftSight,and/orcustomizedenvironments,backupthesefilesbeforeinitiate theinstallation.

1.1.EUpdateKeepingyourCustomSettingsfromPreviousVersions
YoucankeepyourcustomsettingsandfilesfrompreviousDraftSightreleases.Itisrecommendedthatyoumigratefroma previousreleasewhenanewoneisavailable.Everyreleaseincludesfixesforpreviouslyreportedissues,andnewfeatures. Allyourcustomsettingscanbekept,andusedinthenewrelease.WhenyoumigratetoanewDraftSightversion,youwill receivethefollowingmessage:

Themessageisdisplayedtoaskwhethertokeeptheearlierapplicationfolder(containingyourcustomisedfiles)ornot. IfyouclickYes,thesettingsorcustomizationsmadeintheearlierversioninstalledareerasedandanewfolderwithnew defaultsettingsiscreated.IfyouclickNo,thenthepreviouscustomizationsandsettingsareretained.

1.2InstallingandLaunchingDraftSight
Closeallrunningapplications.Shutdownalltheunnecessaryprogramsthatarerunninginyoursystemtray.Usuallyifyou rightclickaniconwithyourmouseyou'llgetamenuthathelpsyoutoexitthesoftware. To use the product, you only need to download and install it. As soon as you have installed it, you can start using it immediately.Youwillbepromptedtoactivatetheproduct,andyoucanchoosetoactivateDraftSightimmediatelyorenjoy a30daystrialperiod.

1.2.AInstallingDraftSight
DraftSightisdistributedONLYthroughtheDassaultSystemeswebsiteortheDassaultcommunities. DownloadDraftSightfromthefollowingURL: (http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/downloaddraftsight/)

Clickonthelink,correspondingtoyouroperativesystemtoinitiatetheprocess. Apopupwindowwillshowup,withthelicenseagreement.

Clicktheacceptbutton,andthedownloadbegins. LocatetheDraftSightinstallerfileyoudownloaded,anddoubleclickonthefile,tolaunchtheinstallationwizard.

Clicknexttocontinuetheinstallation.

ReadtheLicenseAgreementandclickNext.ForDraftSightPremiumeditioninstallation,clicktheoptionskeyand selectNetworkInstallation.

Iftheinstallationissuccessful,exitingtheinstallationwizard,DraftSightwilllaunchautomatically.

During the installation process, the installation wizard scans your machine, looking for installed DraftSight versions.Ifoneisdetected,youwillbeinformedthatyourcurrentapplicationfolderisoutofdate,andaskedif youwanttoupdateit.

Please note that, if you choose YES, the Application data folder will be recreated, and you will lose your customizations/customizationfiles.Ifyouwanttokeepthese,youneedtochooseNO,orexportthem/backupthesefiles beforeyoustarttheinstallationprocess,inordertoimportthemtoDraftSight,aftertheinstallationprocessiscompleted. For more information about importing/exporting customization files in DraftSight, see the DraftSight migration section (page14).


WhenDraftSightislaunchedforthefirsttime,youwillbepromptedtoactivatetheproduct. FormoreinformationabouttheDraftSightActivationprocess,seetheactivatingDraftSightsection(page9).

Youcanchoosetopostponetheactivation,andenjoya30Daystrialperiod,oractivatetheproductimmediately. You need to provide a valid Email address, as you will receive an activation confirmation email. This Email containsalink,thatneedstobeclicked,inordertocompletetheactivationprocess.Ifyoudontclickonthislink, theactivationprocesswillnotbecompleted. When DraftSight launches, you will be prompted to provide the settings of your DraftSight Crash Report Feedback.PleasenotethatCrashReportsareanessentialtoolforustoknowwhichfunctionalitiesmighthave problems,andtherebyhelpustoidentifytheissuesthatusersarefacing.Allthefeedback,andinformationthat isprovidedisfundamentalinordertoidentifyproblems,solvethem,andimproveDraftSight.

Theinstallationisnowcompleted.WehopeyouenjoyyourDraftSightexperience!

1.2.BHowtoLaunchDraftSight Assumingthatyou'vefollowedallofthepreviousstepsoutlinedinthisQuickStartsection,youcanlaunchDraftSightand starttakingadvantageofthenewandupdatedfeatures.

YoucanstartDraftSightusing: Desktopshortcuticon.WhenyouinstallDraftSight,ashortcuticoniscreatedonyourdesktop.Doubleclickthe

DraftSighticon inordertostartDraftSight. Start menu. On the Start menu (Windows), click All Programs (or Programs), > expand the Dassault Systemes folder>doubleclicktheDraftSighticon.

1.3DraftSightActivation
TheDraftSightactivationisaprocesssetinplaceinordertomonitorthenumberofDraftSightusersworldwide.Theonly data collected in the process is the email address that you provide. No other type of data is submitted. DraftSight requiresanactiveinternetconnection,andavalidemailaddress,toperformtheproductactivation. Hereisanoverviewoftheactivationprocess: a) Afterinstalling,thefirsttimeyoulaunchDraftSight,youarepromptedtoactivateDraftSight.Theactivationcan beperformedimmediately,oryoucanchoosetoenjoya30daystrialperiod. b) Choosingtoactivate,youwillbeaskedtoprovideavalidemailaddress.

The information is sent to the DraftSight activation server, which automatically sends an activation confirmationemailtotheemailaddressprovided.

d)

Theactivationconfirmationemailcontainsalink,whichmustbeclicked,inordertocompletetheactivation.

Clickingonthelink,youwillbedirectedtoapagethatwillconfirmthatyouractivationwassuccessful:

Aconfirmationemailisautomaticallysend,confirmingtheactivation,andinvitingyoutojointheDraftSight Community.

Activationisrequiredagain6monthsaftertheinitialactivation andthenagainat12months.Fromthispoint, activation is required annually. If you experience problems when performing the DraftSight activation, please refer to the FAQs and troubleshooting reference section on page 28 or to the DraftSight Community (https://swym.3ds.com/#post:1291)

1.3.AActivatingDraftSightinNetworkEnvironmentsUsingProxyServers
IftheworkstationwhereyouinstalledDraftSightisonanetworkenvironment,thatusesaProxyServertoconnecttothe internet, you might need to add a step to the activation process. Please note that if you are installing DraftSight in a networkenvironment,werecommendyoucontactyourLocalNetworkAdministrator,informhimthatyouareinstalling theapplication,andtheproductactivationrequiresanactiveinternetconnection.YourLANAdministratormightalsohelp you avoiding problems with network/internet security settings, or security applications that might interfere with the installationand/oractivationprocesses(e.g.addDraftSighttothenetworkfirewallexclusionlist). Consult with him as well, if your user account has the necessary permissions to perform the installation/activation (software installation, access to system folders/files, etc.). Note that antivirus and/or firewalls can sometimes be an obstacle, so you may want to disable these during the installation/activation, and addwww.draftsight.com tothe list of websitesthatdonotrequireauthenticationbyanyconfigurationscript,andtoanylistofTrustedWebsitesthatmightbe inplace.

1.3.BActivatingDraftSightProxyServersInformation
Oncetheinstallationprocessiscompleted,andDraftSigtislaunchedbythefirsttime,ifnointernetconnectionisdetected, orifyourworkstationconnectstotheinternetthroughaProxyServer,DraftSightwillreturnthefollowingmessage:

Asshowninthenetworkaccessmanagermessage,toallowDraftSighttoconnecttotheinternet,youmustprovidethe information required to connect to the Proxy Server. From the previous screen/message, click Activate later and DraftSightwilllaunch. a) IntheDraftSightmenu,gotoTools>Options(ortypeoptionsinyourcommandline) b) ClicktheSystemOptionstab,andexpandtheoptionGeneral,andthenexpandtheoptionProxyServersettings

When you activate DraftSight, you are asked to join the DraftSight Community. Why should you do it? The DraftSight communityistheplacetoshareyourDraftSightexperiences,learnmore,andaskquestions.Youwillalsohaveaccessto learning content, troubleshooting techniques for the most common issues, and you can suggest and vote for enhancementstobeincludedinfutureDraftSightreleases.

DraftSightofferstheoptiontocreate,import,orexportyourcustomizationfiles,and/orfavouritesettings.Thisoptioncan beusednotonlytoshareyourcustomizationsandenvironmentorcorporatestandards,butalsotoallowyoutobackup these,incasesomethinggoeswrongwithyourmachine. The main sets of customization that we recommend you to backup are user preferences like the command aliases, the userinterface,orprintingconfigurationfilesorRichLineTypes.Thefileslocationmaydifferfromoneusertoanotherorin thedifferentOperativeSystems,buttheaccesstothesettingsandexportfunctionarestatic.Seebelowthemostused customizations/settings,andhowtoaccessthem.

Supportfilesincludefonts,menus,andoptional,userdefinedsettingssuchasdictionariesandcustomizationfiles.Support filelocationsareautomaticallysetduringtheinstallationprocess,andpredefinedpathsarespecifiedforthesupportfiles. The support file search path specifies the folders in which the program should look for text fonts, customization files, drawingstoinsert,linetypes,andhatchpatternsthatarenotinthecurrentfolder.Italsospecifiesthenamesandlocations ofvarioustypesoffiles. You can also manage the customization files you use. Customization files store the elements that comprise the user interface. Access:Menu>Tools>CustomizeInterfaceorCommandline:UIProfile BeforeupgradingDraftSighttoSP3,theApplicationDatafolderrequiresabackupandarestoreafterDraftSightupgrade. Backing up the DraftSight data folder is a recommended security practice after each application data modification (explainedbelow.) WhenupgradingDraftSighttotheSP3version,somecustomizationdatahastobemanuallyupdated. Note:DonotuninstallDraftSightSP2priortoupdatingtoSP3.

TheDraftSightactivationmustbeperformedbyeachuser,asitsnotmachinebased.Thismeansthatifyouhavemultiple users, with different accounts, using the same PC, and all need to use DraftSight, each one needs to active the product individuallyoneachuseraccount.

3.2.DIreceiveanerrormessage:Therewasanerrorprocessingyour registration.
When you were performing the DraftSight activation, you clicked the link in the activation confirmation Email, and receivedthiserrormessage: There was an error process your registration. Visit the DraftSight Community, and review the iQuestions for possible solutions,ortoreportaproblem. This is a server side activation error and might indicate that when you tried to perform the DraftSight activation, the activation server was going through maintenance or there was a temporary network problem. In this case, allow reasonable time for the issue be addressed, and try to activate later, using the link on the confirmation Email. Some email providers, or applications might filter emails from unknown senders and mark them as SPAM (false positives). Check the SPAM folder of your mailbox, as the activation confirmation mail might have been filtered. If the problempersistsinthenext24hours,assumetheregistryprocessfailed,andperformtheactivationusingadifferentE mailaddress.

3.2.FWhatisthedifferencebetweentheFreeVersionlicenseanda Premium/networklicense?
The free version is registered and activated to an individual user. While the software can be installed on multiple workstations, the registration only allows one system to be operational. If you need to run more systems, you need to download/install the free version, and activate the product individually, or consider converting to a network license (DraftSightPremiumPack). NetworklicensedproductsrelyuponaNetworkLicenseManagertomanagethesoftwarelicenses.Thesoftwarecanbe installed and run on multiple workstations, beyond the maximum number of licenses youve purchased. The Network License Manager allows concurrent/floating licensing and checks out licenses until they are all in use. 3.3.CWhenIuninstallmysoftware,whatfilesareleftonmysystem?
Ifyouuninstalltheproduct,somefileswillremainonyoursystemsuchasfilesyouvecreatedoreditedlikedrawingsor custommenus.Yourproductactivationinformationalsostaysonyourworkstationwhenyouuninstallyourproduct.Ifyou reinstall on thesame workstation, the license information remains validand you do not haveto reactivate the product, exceptontheexpectedreactivationperiods.
