Cooperating Teacher: Mrs. Alison Lesson Title: Grab and Count

1.) Curriculum Standards Addressed: K.CC.6 Counting and Cardinality- Compare Numbers Indicator 6: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies. Include groups with up to ten objects. 2.) Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will compare two quantities using counting cubes and find which is more with 80% accuracy. 3.) Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Before lesson: My pre assessment will be a activity from the students math workbook, Use Numbers to 10. They will complete page 117- Order Numbers to 10 on Wednesday prior to our lesson on Friday. During lesson: During my instruction focused on how to compare values and decide which is less than, greater than, or equal to each other the students will use counting cubes to construct a train using the numbers they are comparing. The students will then stand their trains side-by-side to compare the quantities and find which is greater. Once the students agree on which number is bigger, they will circle it. After lesson: The students will complete an activity where they will compare numbers to 10. This page is found in their math workbook, Use Numbers to 10 on page 115. The student will count how many objects are in each group. Write the numbers and draw lines to match the objects in one group with objects in the other. Then they will circle the number and group that have more. Next they will put an X on the number and group that has less. 4.) -Smart board 5.) Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): Students should be able to already identify numbers 0-20 and be able to recognize and know how to add. 6.) Procedures: 1. Invite the class to the meeting rug by what table they are sitting at. 2. Show the class the book and tell them what we will be doing. (Let them know what they are about to do.) 3. Point out the author and illustrator of book. 4. Show the front cover, back cover, title page, and spine of the book to familiarize them with where they are on a book. 5. Begin reading the book. 6. Ask students questions based on the scenarios on each page. Have them tell me what the pictures show. (greater than, less than , or equal) 7. After completing the book, ask the class questions about what greater than, less than, and equal to means. 8. Show the students the worksheet that they will be working on in pairs (During Assessment). 9. Have 2 students come to the front of the room to act out an example of the first problem on the sheet. 10. Send the students back to their tables and pair them up in groups of twos. 11. Assign one of the students in each pair a certain number and then go around and assign the partners a number. 12. Have the students compare numbers and build trains. 13. Instruct them to color in the squares on their worksheet according to the numbers they were assigned. 14. Have the students come to an agreement on which one of their numbers are greater and have them circle it on their worksheet. 15. Let the students work together with their partners to complete the worksheet. 16. Once the students are finished with the sheet, go over it as a class. 17. After the review has ended, turn the class back over to Ms. Driggers. 7.) Accommodations: I will have KaMiyah, who wears glasses, to sit closer to the front of the rug where I will be displaying the book so that she will not have any trouble seeing the pictures or words. For early finishers, I will have them read a book out of their book baskets on their tables until we are ready to move on to the next steps in the lesson. 8.)
