2 Powers and Limits on Powers: Identify how power and responsibility are distributed, shared, and limited in American constitutional government through the investigation of such questions as: How are power and responsibility distributed, shared, and limited in the government established by the United States Constitution? b. 3.2.1 Explain how the principles of enumerated powers, federalism, separation of powers, bicameralism, Checks and balances, republicanism, rule of law, individual rights, inalienable rights, separation of church and state, and popular sovereignty serve to limit the power of government II. Behavioral/Objective a. By the end of this lesson students will be able to interpret the main point of an article by filling out the article analysis questions and say whether or not they agree with the main point of the article III. Anticipatory Set a. Today we are going to be learning about marijuana. (Pause). Kind of. We are going to be breaking down articles about the process of legalizing marijuana. But I got you excited didnt I? IV. Objective/Purpose a. Our goal is for you to be able to identify the main point of an article and say whether or not your agree with the articles opinion V. Input a. Task Analysis i. Anticipatory Set (1 minute) 1. Today we are going to be learning about marijuana. (Pause). Kind of. We are going to be breaking down articles about the process of legalizing marijuana. But I got you excited didnt I? ii. Pass out the Article Analysis Questions iii. State the objective (1minute) iv. Have student write down any prior knowledge they have about legalizing Marijuana. (1 minute) 1. This is the Preview Question on the Guide v. Explain that we are going to be breaking down several articles using a guide (2 minutes)

1. The articles are on the relations between the federal and state governments when it comes to legalizing marijuana 2. There are 3 different articles 3. You will only have to read one 4. Once you have read the article and filled out the questions sheet, you will meet with the students who had the same article as you 5. Then we are going to have groups go through their questions 6. Students not in that group are expected to answer the same questions on the back of their paper vi. Pass out the articles to the different rows (2 minutes) vii. Give students 10 minutes to read the articles and answer the questions for their article (10 Minutes) 1. Use Timer 2. Walk around and see how far students 3. When the time is up ask students to show on 1 hand how much time they will need to finish viii. Once time is up, students will get in their groups and discuss each question and make sure everyone has the same answers besides #4 (8 minutes) 1. Students will have 8 minutes to do this 2. Groups should be no larger to 5 3. Use Timer ix. Groups will share their answers with the class (15 20 Minutes) 1. They will briefly summarize their article 2. Then go through each question b.
