THE GENIUS OF DVOK

Blackheath Halls Music Appreciation Classes Monday mornings with Matthew Taylor
Antonn Dvok is widely celebrated as one of the great figures of 19th century music. Yet the more we explore his music the more we are struck by the mastery of invention in almost every genre as well as the enormous expressive range. By his own admission he was first and foremost a nationalistic composer, but he also had a great spiritual affinity with the Austro Germanic tradition. In his sacred music he rivals Haydn and Bruckner, while his serenades reveal a truly individual mastery of classical form - a man for all seasons. Join us for this ten week course.
