I learnt my lesson

People tend to do everything they want. Instead of taking care of other's affair, they will make full use of their effort to achieve something that they think, will ease their future lives. This norm occurred in my family. My one and only family that I lived with since I opened my deep-set eyes for the first time I came to this world. Frankly speaking, after I endured this life almost about 17 years, my heart grew to hate my father. I did not know why this sense of abhorrence keeping on 'blooming' in my heart. Though, every time I went home for semester break, I always hoped my towering father had died so that I did not have to look at his wrinkled face anymore. "Why should I care about him? Even if he sent me to my boarding school and lost the way, he was inclined to gnash his teeth and blame me and the other family members at that very time." I complaint to myself. My father worked as a __________ and his determination in works did inspire me to mug up in my study to pass my SPM examination with flying colors. Throughout my stay in one of the most wellknown boarding school in Malaysia in 2002, I always got to be among the top 5 astute students in the school. But do remember! The only thing that I extremely admired about my father was his determination. Even though my family always faced financial problems, he would endeavor his best to earn for more money especially during the end of the year. Despite of this value, I despised him in terms of his attitude towards me and my siblings, predominantly, to my cherished mother. They did have up-and-a downer almost every night. I, together with my sister and the younger brother could only pretend to be asleep and hear nothing. Sometimes, I thought that I could put everything right with a wave of Aladdin's magic wand. The night I was at my boarding school, I had a serious fever. I could not even lift my head from my bed. I could only envisage the consequences if I did not sit for the next-day examination.

"William, could you please help to bring a glass of water and a few pills of Paracetamol for me?" I enquired. "Sure, friend. Here they are," smiled William. I try to swallow the pills but out of the sudden, the giddiness came back and the glass I held fell over the floor and shattered into pieces. I fainted. Luckily, my helpful friend, that William, called out for the warden and told him what was happened. Many students pooled around my room. For a couple of few minutes, sirens of ambulance were heard and I was carted off to hospital for an immediate treatment. According to my friends, I had a comma for 3 days and at that night, as I was told; my classroom teacher rang my home to inform my nauseous condition in the hospital. Panic engulfed my parents and, without further thinking, both of them quickly made a journey to the hospital. They used their old Proton Wira car that had never been serviced for a long time, in the journey. And guess what has happened through the journey? When I keep on remember their sacrifices at that night, especially my father's, my eyes will glisten with tears. They involved in a bloody accident which was caused by a drunken lorry driver who uncontrollably drove the big, unlicensed lorry and swerved to my parent's car. Luckily, my mother was saved. She only had minor injuries at a few parts of the body. But the person, who I always abhor, had gone forever for the rest of my life. Forever. Then, I knew that God finally granted my 'wish'. When I was told by my teacher about the accident after regaining my consciousness, I felt like I lost in my own world. My father's death came as a bitter pill to swallow. I could not accept this reality that was fated to me. My cheerful life like before had turned to dull and boring. Now, I realized the truth of a proverb. Absence make heart grows fonder. One should love their parents whoever who they are. Once

they pass away, you will feel how much important they are in your life. I learnt my lesson.
