Good morning, my respected opponents, my teammates, judges, and audiences.

Its my honor and pleasure to participate in this debate about the topic spanking is a crime. My name is Natasha Gorowara, the second speaker of the affirmative side. I have gathered enough information to prove that spanking is a crime, and would like to start my assertion now. Spanking is a crime. According to the Criminal Code of Thailand, the 295th section from the 2nd category, The Guilt Against Human Body states that anyone who does actions, spanking is also consider as one of them, that cause danger towards the physical body or hurt towards the emotions of another person, the person who does the action will be imprison for not more than 2 years or fined for not more than 4,000 baht or both imprison and fined. Delaware has become the very first state to pass a controversial law that effectively outlaws the corporal discipline of children by their parents. Senate Bill 234 was sign into law by Governor Jack Markell on September 12, 2012. The legislation is sponsored by Delawares Senate Majority Leader Patricia Blevins, the bills redefines child abuse laws to include any act that causes pain. The legislation classifies child abuse as a separate crime in the state and increases penalties in child abuse cases. Prior to the new law, child abuse causes were prosecuted under the same statutes dealing with assault by abuse or neglect that applied to adult victims. Assaults against children are different than as adults against adults, said Senator Patricia Blevins. So, it is important to make this a standalone crime. Parents who commit physical pain or injury to a child under 18 years old would be guilty of a class A misdemeanor, and face a year in prison. A parent charged with causing pain or injury to a child under 3 years old would be guilty of a class G felony and face 2 years in prison. An article by Andrew Chow, JD, thats published on September 5, 2012, states that A recent study may make parents think twice about spanking. Kids who are spanked or otherwise physically punished are more likely to suffer from mental disorders, depression, and drug and alcohol abuse as adults. As far as state laws are concerned, however, parental punishments like spanking will be considered criminal battery or abuse. Also, number 4 reason in an article in Ask Dr. Sears website that has the topic 10 Reasons not to Hit Your Child states that punishment sets the stage for child abuse. This punishment includes spanking. And child abuse, eventually, is a crime. In conclusion, I would like to state again that spanking is a crime, because the laws and codes support this idea. The law states that it is illegal and the people who spanked eventually would receive consequences according to the law. Everyone has their own right to keep themselves safe even though they are kids.
