‘Tory Aveta THE Councn. omer THE Cry oF NEw York Mareh, 2009) Dear Neighbor: | am writing to alert you to very serious situation regarding the College Point Corporate Park (CPCP). The Urhan Renewal Plan (URP) which dictates the typelscope of development within the park is due to expire in April, The URP had several mportant building restrictions which protected the residential eommunity. Instead of simply extending the plan since development is still occuring) the City has chosen instead to ereate a special zoning district under the auspices of the Department of City Planning (DCP). While there are many good! components ofthe new College Point Corporate Park Special Zoning District, there are two serious issues not addressed in the proposed zoning text First, the text lacks a prohibition against adult establishments. Secondly, DCPs plan fails to carry-over Zzoningiuse group restrictions from the URP, making it possible forthe Bloomberg Administration to relucate, Willets Po sto rate Park, Let me be perfectly clear, [am vehemently against the relocation of any businesses from the Willets Point area 1o the Corporate Park. I is completely unacceptable for Mike Bloomberg to call these Wille Point businesses “blighted” and then move them to another community - our community. You should know thatthe City intends tw relocate five of these businesses to the CPCP. This is absolutly unacceptable! Unfortunately, to-date, these concerns have been largely dismissed by DCP and the Corporation. Asa result I strongly encourage you to join me ata rally demanding that the new special zoning district include permanent protections against the opening of “adult establishments” and the relocation of Willets Point businesses to or neighborhood “The rlly willbe held on Saturday, ApriL LS at LLA.M, on the comer ofthe Whitestone Expressay Serview Road (estbound) and 20th Avenve. Your attendance is necessary to show the Mayor that we will not tolerate any deterioration to our quay of lie. The Corporate Park has already resulted in huge increases in traffic congestion, which the City his not addressed. “The media will also be invite tothe rally Conta In addition, 1 ask inatyou write to Mayor Bloomberg to express your indignation and your opposition to the possible opening of adult establishments and the placement of businesses that are isuted for our community You can write the Mayor 3: Mayor Mike Bloomberg City Hall New York, NY 10007 Ifyou have any questions, please feel free to contact my District Office at (718) 747-2137. Remember - we stopped the Mayor's plan to place 180 imporiexport businesses in the old Flushing Airport site by demonstrating. We can do it again!
