Phonics and Word Recognition -English language Arts Vocabulary Conventions of Standard English -Literacy.L.2.1d Form and use the past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs The students will be able to define what an irregular verb is, identify irregular verbs, and provide examples of irregular verbs. That the students provide examples of irregular verbs. The students will do this by participating in the group discussion by giving examples of irregular verbs, using irregular verbs in sentences, and circling the correct tense of the verb. Definition of an irregular verb- an irregular verb is a verb (an action word, a word that describes what action is being done) that does not follow the RULE. Irregular verbs do not follow the simple rule of adding d or ed to the end of the (action) word to form the past tense. Some examples are: Drink-drank Spring-sprang Know-knew Blow-blew Sentences: PRESENT TENSE (verb stands alone) 1. Drink the juice. 2. Blow out the candles. PAST TENSE (used when describing events that already happened) 1. I drank the juice. 2. I blew out the candles. Smartboard Powerpoint

Im glad to see so many of you wearing bright colors! - Today the WALT is irregular verbs 2 minutes to get the definition of an irregular verb - Can someone tell me what an irregular is? 10 minutes to allow time for the students to come up to the white board and complete a few examples of sentences, fill in the blanks, and create a sentence using regular and irregular verbs 2-4 minutes to list regular and irregular verbs - I am going to make a list of regular and irregular verbs on the board - Can someone tell me a verb and if it is a regular or irregular verb? -(as the students give examples I will write them on the board in the regular verb section or the irregular verb section) 2-4 minutes to review what the WALT was - Ask for someone to tell me what an irregular verb is (definition) *If I need more time I can ask the students to give me sentences with specific verbs I choose What is an irregular verb? What are some examples of irregular verbs? Can someone use an irregular verb in a sentence? The students will also tell me if the verbs are regular or irregular. Irregular verbs- an irregular verb is a verb (an action word, a word that describes what action is being done) that does not follow the RULE. Reviewing what the WALT is, irregular verbs. Thanking the students for doing such a great job! And reminding them to include both regular and irregular verbs in their writings.

Self Reflection

For students who know what irregular verbs are I will ask them to use more challenging verbs in sentences. For the students who are struggling I will review irregular verbs with them after the lesson and I will provide them with more examples of irregular and regular verbs.
