Amals Glistening Smile!

Child: Amal Tani Date: March 2013 Written by: Teacher Natasha (Head Teacher) Kia ora/As-salamu alaykum Amal and whnau, This fortnight the Tui group have been exploring teeth and how we can keep them healthy with Teacher Natasha. Amal, you were very interested in this topic always ready to begin the lesson sitting up straight and were eager to share your recent dentist experience with your peers. Some of our friends were scarred of visiting a dentist office, but after hearing your experience felt reassured. After you shared your experience of the dentist visit, your friend Hothaifah responded he wanted to go to the dentist to have a sparkly smile like yours!

Recognising the learning I can see you have developed the positive learning dispositions of courage and curiosity through you taking an active interest in our topic, as well as trust and playfulness through you being involved and choosing to answer the questions in front of everyone! Ka pai, these learning dispositions will benefit you in your life long journey of learning. Amal you are a very confident girl, you are able to share and express your ideas to a large peer group. Throughout this fortnight you have begun to take responsibility for the health of your teeth, learning about why and how we clean them. Throughout our experiments you have been able to make connections between the learning (from how we can prevent and fix cavities or holes, to how toothpaste works) and your experiences in the wider community at the dentist or the supermarket. These connections will strengthen your understanding of our world.

What next? Amal I have enjoyed being part of your exploration of teeth, building on a connection you had made between home and the wider community. Your teachers will continue to offer you experiences to understand our bodies, while providing you opportunities to further explore and strengthen connections between home, school and the wider community with your peers. Childs/Parents Voice Amal what was your favourite part of our teeth lessons?
