aviation markets in the world.
• The Airport Authority of India (AAI)
manages a total of 127 airports in the
country
– 13 international airports
– 7 custom airports
– 80 domestic airports
– Around 1100 registered aircrafts in the
country
India has jumped to 9th position in
world's aviation market from 12th

• First flight in 1912 between Delhi &
Karachi
• In the early fifties, all airlines
operating in the country were
merged into either Indian Airlines or
Air India. and, by virtue of the Air
Corporations Act 1953, this monopoly
continued for the next forty years.
• In 1990s, aviation industry in India

• According to recent estimates by The
International Air Transport Association
(IATA), India is likely to be a significant
player in the global civil aviation business,
which was estimated at US$ 5.6 billion in
2008.
• The government is planning to upgrade 45
big and small airports across India
• For greenfield airports, foreign equity up to
100 per cent is allowed through automatic
approvals
• By 2020, Indian airports are expected to
handle more than 100 million passengers
